About 48 hours is the longest, I've regularly done the 24 "stints" when I was younger. Now I'm older and balder I have more sense then to starve myself.

It depends on lifestyle too, I'm doing some sort of exercise most days and on my feet in work for nine hours a day so I'd naturally burn a fair bit number of carbs compared to someone who doesn't exercise and sits at a desk.

I dunno.. Maybe 30 hours. I don't have much of an appetite. Just on Thursday I started getting hungry at around 8.30pm and then realised I had forgotten to eat that day. So that was around 25 hours. Worst food thing I've done was only eating Weetabix and milk for 5 days in college before.. People were commenting on how white I looked even though I felt fine.

Interesting thread.. Definitely a few posts I wish had more detail.

Really thought that sentence was going to end differently.

i completely lose my appetite when im stressed so a rough breakup during my final year of uni led to me having nibbles of stuff and peppermint tea (and i was lucky to keep that down) for nearly 4 weeks, then i fell ill with a bug and couldn't eat for another full week .. lost three stone and dropped to a size 8.

looked awful at the time though.

I start hearing strange noises if I don't eat for 12 hours, just ate now and the voices are gone...

Once I get over the first 24 hours my appetite fades and I no longer feel like eating. After that it becomes elating, I a get a buzz or a high from it.

The longest I've gone would be about three days. A Friday morning to a Monday morning. I don't do it much anymore though.

If memory serves me right (I believe), I went and did so many times, went without eating for approx 3 days. That was in the days when MDMA was the best "diet" supplement anybody could have. I'm not a big lover of food at the best of times....I suppose I just ate to survive..

I've been following these studies as I was doing IF for a while. I think it's actually not so clear cut after all that restriction increases longevity.
    You are correct.

The original reasoning behind calorie restriction came from studies involving rodents. It was found that those rodents whose calorie intake was dramatically decreased (think it was halved) had a significantly longer lifespan - might have been twice as much IIRC.

As with so many animal trial models the results did not transfer out in humans.

I'm not sure what studies have been done (in animals or humans) for IF.

    Currently around 96 hours.

Had a tummy bug or man flu, not sure which. Getting over it now but hadn't had an appetite.
    I've also lost 10 pounds :P.

I think I'll get a big order from McDonalds tonight to make up for it.

    three days

Travelled from Zurich to Paris. Didn't eat for a day, then , at Cherbourg, realised boat was going to be delayed 24 hours... 23 hrs to Cobh. Didn't have to leave seat to go to the toilets, nothing in the system. Then, bus to Cork, train to Dublin. scrambled eggs and toast on a delicate stomach.......

then out for a few drinks. Lost a lot of weight....

4 days without food. Got some infection on hols at a waterpark. Was on a drip and had to drink savage amounts of fluids for the 4 days. Thing is i was starving and they wouldn't feed me:mad:
All I craved was tea and toast (the tea and toast you get in irish hospitals after operations). Lost a nice bit of weight too:). Went back on fairly fast afterwards:(

2-3 weeks due to post op complications and extra surgery.

2 weeks due to illness. That time, my sense of smell for food becomes incredible. I could practically smell what I looked at and notice differences between candy and chocolate in wrappers at 6 feet.

hunger is not as big an issue as you think. usually because you are really ill and drugged so have bigger things to worry about.

Once you are hydrated intravenously it is very manageable. however the lack of energy and feeling cold was rough. Once they gave me TPN (nutrients intraveneously ) I felt way better.

Not an experience I ever wish to repeat.

5 days due to stomach problems, by the end I kept passing out, which wasn't an entirely bad thing because the stomach thing also kept me from sleeping. Lost a ton of weight though so... every cloud etc

I haven't eaten now in around 26 hours. Nothing what so ever. I've only been drinking water. The longest I've gone before was 18hrs I'd say and that was only for fasting for blood tests. I don't even feel like eating now either and I'm not going to until I'm hungry. I'll probably only last to lunch time I imagine but let's see.

    What are boardsies personal bests?

Just 30 hours. I fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday but one day Ash Wednesday lasted 30 hour because of the time zone. I choosed a bad day to travel to the US!

About two days for medical reasons, was not even allowed fluids, and connected to a drip. When I was eventually allowed to eat was not even that hungry as stomach was sore from being empty.

Around a week with bad food poisoning and then four days after a surgery on my tongue.
The week was nearly easier because I was so sick I couldn't eat, whereas for the four days I was mad for food.

three/four days. A few years ago I spent three weeks only eating on a Tuesday and Friday. I was preparing for a weekend away and wanted to lose about three kilos. I did drink about two litres of orange juice a day to keep vitamin levels up. I also smoked at the time which somehow ade it easier too. I used to go to bed at around 8pm so I would not be tempted to eat. Yes I did lose weight and look really healthy. I remember the hunger not getting any worse after the first day...
