The longest you've gone without eating?

I haven't eaten now in around 26 hours. Nothing what so ever. I've only been drinking water. The longest I've gone before was 18hrs I'd say and that was only for fasting for blood tests. I don't even feel like eating now either and I'm not going to until I'm hungry. I'll probably only last to lunch time I imagine but let's see.

    What are boardsies personal bests?

"Personal bests"? I though it was best to eat fairly regularly.

About the same. I used to go one day a week without eating. It helped clear my system out.

Depends on what you're eating thought I guess.
little joke in there for you ;)

I'd say I've gone 24 hours without eating quite a few times. As in, have dinner, then nothing until dinner time the next day. Usually I'll have a bloody massive dinner then though.

43 days when I was lost in Western Australia's Great Sandy Desert. How I survived defied medical science. All I had was dirty water and my will to survive.

I'd go a weekend without eating regularly enough. Once a month anyway. I'd have feck all of an appetite anyway so easy enough. Studies show it increases longevity, just as well as the older style calorie restriction(WITH high nutrients, NOT starvation diets). I'd note very little weight loss either. It would be my humble that people eat quite a bit more than they actually need, especially if sedentary. The human body requires remarkably few calories SO LONG as nutrient levels are high.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I've eaten two sandwiches and a mouthful of stew since Sunday. When you're stressed out and have no appetite, it's quite easy.

    Your third sentence was unnecessary.

About ten hours (over night in other words). If I'm awake I'm generally thinking about where my next meal is coming from.

7 weeks, on a TFR diet, no actual food is consumed just liquids

About 2 days from ecstasy usage back in my younger wilder days. You genuinely have zero appetite when you take them an the day after, no matter how long you have been without food.

They should start dishing them out in Africa, it might bring some happiness to the place :pac:

    From 1845 until 1852.

That's only seven minutes on a digital clock, hardly worth boasting about, anyway, by that time you would have just finished your 'tea'.

24 hours at the most I'd day. I don't know how people are able to fast for a few days at a time.

Alaskan fireman Robert Bogucki (Don Hany) went missing in Western Australia’s Great Sandy Desert in July, 1999. Bogucki survived 43 days and was eventually found some 400km from his departure point by an Australian television news helicopter. He’d lost 30 kilograms, endured six weeks without food and 12 days without water but miraculously survived one of the world’s most inhospitable wildernesses.http://www.throng.com.au/2010/07/miracles-miracle-in-the-desert/

Maybe a couple of months eating nothing but apples and diet drinks or red bull :/ Bad times

I often lose my appetite for extended periods now, just have to force yourself to eat. Stupid not to. It's a mental thing, your body still needs food to function.

Besides from when I've been asleep, a couple of hours. I don't do the whole starvation thing. Love my food. Love eating.

I've been following these studies as I was doing IF for a while. I think it's actually not so clear cut after all that restriction increases longevity.

I've done the 24h a few times. It was no problem from a hunger point of view at all, but I got pretty grumpy in the mornings (worse than usual ;) ). Didn't get any of this clear thinking business others say they get from doing it

11 days when I had food poisoning in China. Lost about 2.5 stone.

Cue the size zero's PM'ing me wanting to get in on "that new fad diet"..

    2 days while traveling- painfull!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭horsemaster

The longest is I have fasted with water is 7 days. I do this fast once every 3-4 months. I do 24 hour fasting every week if I can. 24 hours fasting is complete fasting without water. For the 7 day fasting, I drink water regularly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭builttospill

When I used to go on mad sessions I wouldn't eat for 5 days. I ain't lying. All the sugar and crap in the alcohol just about kept me going. I paid for it after though, naturally.

I had food poisoning twice and on each occasion I was not allowed any food at all for two weeks. The only thing I could take was 7up as the sugar would keep my strength up.

3.5 day fast. And 3 days due to illness. Makes your breath reek though.

Does it count if you're hooked up to drips and feeds and things like that? If so, two weeks, nil by mouth type stuff. Never again (hopefully). I lost around two/three stone, and it's not weight I could afford to lose.

if you go to ibiza do what people in Ibiza do, you can easily go a few days. the weight falls off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,822 ✭✭✭sunflower27

A few days after I had my wisdom teeth out and the gums sewn back up would probably be the longest without food.

Was in so much pain, the last thing I thought about was food. Lost a fair bit of weight for a short time as well come to think of it.

I'd regularly go a day with just a can of diet coke just because of awkward sleeping patterns or different hours in college. Longest I went was a full week with just water. It wasn't fun.

24 hours fasting is complete fasting without water.
Is that...wise? Surely you'd risk dehydration.

Longest for me was about 25/6 hours, charity fast.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,884 ✭✭✭Eve_Dublin

What's this fasting business? Is it to lose weight? Surely you'd just pile it on again after.

Do you eat a low - moderate carb diet?

Reason i ask is that people who get the clear thinking might be due to usually eating a carb heavy diet and the massive reduction in glucose for them.

I am in my 40s and I have been doing this since childhood. Initially it was due to the fact that people around me did this but later I did it for personal reasons. It takes much more than 24 hours for dehydration to hit. Hindus fast for 3 days straight without drinking anything without any problem in the temple I volunteer. A 24 hour fast is not a problem. But as in everything, please consult your doctor before you fast. I am a Ayurvedic practitioner and I have clients/patients who fast as part of their treatment.

Not as much as I used to but I did go fairly low carb for ages

I don't think I've ever went more than 12 hours without food. I'd probably have withdrawal symptoms If I tried.

I'll never understand people who "can't eat".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,552 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

I had to fast for a test (medical, not educational :)) once. No eating from midnight and I had to fast 24 hours. So stopped midnight day one. It was 8pm two days later when the test was. It had originally been scheduled for the morning. So that's 44 hours without food.

I used to skip entire days without food but don't do it so often now. Not deliberately, I'd just forget. Now, if I go too long without some sort of food intake, I get a headache. But I do still go quite often with little intake. I sometime go days with just the odd sandwich or bowl of noodles here or there.
