A truly shocking story on the front of Wednesday's paper. A four-year-old boy has been raped by two boys, aged eight and nine. Read the full story only in the Mirror...

WTF. Why are parents not being jailed for this, its as much their fault as those children who did the act. Pure bad parenting is to blame IMO!

How exactly are the parents to blame?

Yeah heard that on the radio this morning, one of the most fcked up things i've heard while eating my cornflakes.

I heard this on the radio this am and his two yr old brother was sexually assaulted, sickening tbh.
I think parents are to blame for parenting and what they are allowing kids watch on tv but jailing them is a stretch to far.

Who else is responsible for teaching their children basic life morals?

If my child smashes your car window you will come to me looking for someone to take responsibility for the cost of replaceing it! Same should apply to parenting.

Your patents should be jailed for having you.

We should be born into jail and allowed out when we've proved ourselves.

Then we'd never need to discuss this issue again.

How would an 8/9 year old know what rape is, never mind have the where with all to actually perform the act?

I understand were the OP is coming from, the parents have to take responsability for a child that young doing something like that, it shouldn't be a part of an 8/9 year olds life!!

Are eight year olds even phsyically capable of rape?

    Because they didn't do it.

The children may have done it due to their bad parenting but children can be vicious of their own accord

    Ridiculous thread

Totally agree, if a child is so fu cked up that they would do something like that then only the parents are to blame. You do not pick something of that nature up from tv, books or the playground. It's coming from closer to home and so the parenting skills or lack if them are responsible. The parents should be tried and sentenced for the crimes. The child needs to be removed from society and "re-programmed"

Do you work for The Mirror or something? Are you just trying to get us to run out and buy a copy?

If so, may I suggest giving away a free CD or DVD as a way to increase sales? Much better than "exclusive" stories of children being raped by other children.

Bring the priests and nuns back to deal with the unruly kids.

it would soften their cough and anal passage at the same time.

That premise erroneously assumes there was any relevance in this thread to begin with.

I'm merely adding more idiocy to an already cretinous mix.

I dont think jailing the parents will sort the kids out.

Taking the kids away from the parents might though

Stupiest post I have ever read, what next? Jail the sister if the brother does a crime, jail the wife if the husband embezzels?
You can't go around jailing one person for the unforeseen actions of another.

Way back when, my then four-year-old son swung a Coca-Cola bottle at a very large shop window in very hot weather and the thing (the window) cracked right down the middle.

Fortunately, my home insurance covered the bill, which was quite substantial, and that was the end of the matter.:)

That was in another country, but on the same planet.;)

And not the one the OP seems to live on.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

What a truly idiotic statement. The parents did not commit the crime, and you have no idea how they parent their children. Some people are just born sickos.

I would question whether the 8 and 9 year old boys would currently be exposed to sexual abuse themselves. I do feel that parents need to be held more responsible than they currently are. However, in this case (without knowing any facts and going in completely blind so no doubt this will be very contentious), I would advocate taking the older boys into care as I don't believe that they have a safe home environment.

Just like the Taliban "severely disciplining" a man if his wife is found washing her clothes or whatever other sh!te they don't like. Great plan!

Having an 8 year old myself, the first thing that popped into my mind was what could have been going on in these boys lives for them to even know about something like rape. I think we'll find out that they are victims as well.

These are not people they are children, as such they have been moulded by their parents!

When my kids are praised for being polite, plesent, proper good kids i hold my head up and am proud because its by my guidence that they have been taught all these things by me! Same is to be said about kids who are ill mannered and badly rared. They got that way at home, looking at their parents, siblings and immidate family with who they have been rared with.
Teachers have not taught them these things.
playground has not taught them these things.

Where do you think they have had access to this kind of behaviour? Wake up people!

I agree completely, there is no way a child of 8/9 should now anything about rape. The parents have to take respomsibility for their child being exposed to the subject and for it to get to the stage of actually performing the act.

How did the kids hear about Rape? Who was telling them about it? How did the converstaion occur about raping another kid? Why were the parents not monitoring their childrens behaviour or who they were associating with?

    I have a 9 year old boy.
Fairly sure he wouldn't be able to do that - physically and logistically like.

Also, why would a child do this? They must be exposed to something they shouldn't be, or being abused themselves - no other way - a 9 year old doesn't just know about sex and how to do it etc...

My first thought when I read op was - god, what a stupid post.
But in this particular case, maybe it's not so stupid.
The parents need to be looked at very closely here imo.
It would be different if the kids were in their teens - but 8 and 9 years olds shouldn't know how to do such things.

I also have a 4 year old, so the thoughts of what happened to that small child make me very sad :(

Typical knee jerk over reaction from AH.

What happened is appaling and I would also like to know how 2 kids that age know about rape but I think jailing the parents is a step too far.

Perhaps they are being abused but it might not be by their parents, maybe they have access to laptops etc and have free reign to look up whatever they want on line...if thats the case the parents are probably lazy at best and need to learn about how savvy kids can be.

Its totally possible of course that the parents are bad people who deserve to be in jail but its also possible they just need support or education on how to be a better parent. Putting them in prision won't address what is seriously wrong with their child.

I am almost certain there is some kind of strong correlation between stupid opinions and usage of the phrase "as a parent..." and it's variants.

In a loving foster family where age appropriate tv and games are played, where children are supervised in a caring environment, where these boys are not exposed to dangerous actions.

If a 25 year old rapes someone, then should the parents be jailed then as well?

But they have already committed the crime. Do you really think all these lads needis love and hugs and whatever is wrong with them will be fixed? You do realise that really good foster parents are hard to come by.

I wish people would stop saying "know about rape" because they clearly know about sex but probably have no idea what rape is.

Isn't that a case of shutting the door after the horse has bolted.

Presumably it will take more than a loving foster home to turn 8 year olds who have already committed their first rape.

So After Hours believes that an adult should be responsible to pay back a crippling mortgage but should not be responsible for the actions of their own children? Thats backwards in my books.

If my 8 year old breaks a window its me that pays, not the 8 year old. It's the same logic here, the parents should of course be locked up.

    I take it you're not a parent.

Parents should know exactly where their 8 and 9 year olds are at all times.

Parents should teach their kids to have respect and the take responsibility for their actions.

Parents should smack their kids (if necessary) if/when they step out of line.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,809 ✭✭✭✭smash

I suppose every child is different but I think 8 yrs is a bit young to know about sex or have any interest in talking about it.

But they do, and the reason they'll talk about it is simply because they're not allowed to.

Remember Arnie did kindergarten cop in the early 90's? the little kid says "Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina" and he was around 6 years old. Well, most kids are actually like that because they think it's funny.
