Words and phrases that are only used by tabloid newspapers

Tabloid newspapers are particularly bad for using words and phrases that no one ever in their right mind would use in conversation.

"Boffins" is one. As is "romp".

    Anyone got any more?

The word 'Terror' isn't only used by Tabloids, but they do excel at adding it to the end of every headline...

    'A disgrace'

Well, them and the Joe Duffy brigade. I really hate that one.

'Vile'. Everything is 'vile'. 'Vile Pedo' 'Vile criminal' 'Vile tabloid'

Don't people use both of those words in real life?

    Tabloid Headline:

    Translation:
Denis Bergkamp has successfully concluded his contact renegotiations with Arsenal football club.

    "Snub".

"... an act too explicit to describe in a family newspaper."

The second one was a favourite of The News of The World.

"downmarket rival" used to describe any other newspaper.

Unnecessary references to the value of people's homes.

For example: The defendant, Joe Bloggs, 42, who resides in a €600,000 house in South Dublin, arrived in court wearing a grey suit and tie.

Oh and while I'm at it, references to people's clothing in court cases!

That's another thing-constant and irrelevant references to people's ages, as well as the blatantly unnecessary preface of their name with a two word description, you know, like "Pop Svengali, Louis Walsh, 60", "Legendary Crooner, Dickie Rock, 104", etc. etc.

"poured her curves into (what ever skanky outfit)"

    "covered her modesty"

"AND NOW THE MOMENT WHEN (insert a random happening"

"a VERY short/seethrough/revealing (item of clothing" ... Why the emphasis on the "very" ?

And yes they all came from the daily mail

    Typical Irish tabloid waank headlines:

"Dad gunned down in front of kids" (ie: scumbag drug dealer shot)

"Tears of a mother" (ie: drug dealer/murderer's mother photographed at funeral sheding a tear and wearing a Celtic jersey).

It's a bit cruel, but this one is a running gag about the BILD newspaper in Germany:

'Man was mauled by a pitbull, read the exclusive interview with the mince meat only in BILD'

For any page where they have pictures of sexy celebrities on a beach or something theres always that "one onlooker" thats quoted who makes really bad puns.

e.g "rearly good view", "breast view" etc

Pensioner Bridie was found dead in her 200k home

The house price has nothing to do with the story
It's just used to show she wasn't on welfare and was a "decent sort", stirs up a bit more interest, wow a person like me

Daily Mail are very fond of this

"anonymous garda source" = lies from the Evening Herald

My night of passion with Robbie Williams (or someone else famous)

The tell all article will include a skimpily dressed photo of this young girl but not too much on show, she is worried what her parents may think

Why did you run to the papers so?
