I guess you never know what somebody else is going through when you're going about your evening. Really puts all the trivial silliness here into perspective

Glenda Gilson (her off TV3 and Castleknock local) tweeted a picture of the view southbound from the bridge about an hour ago, seems to think it's a really bad accident. Too far away from the bridge to be a jumper, I'd think.

They quite likely shut them down or froze them at a certain time if there is something upsetting there?

Nah they are just useless in general. Though they might have got there act together. Sure one of the cameras is called 'The Blanchardstown Roundabout', thing is there is no roundabout it's gone about a year and the camera is looking at well nothing.

Few real time cameras wouldn't go a miss.

Wouldn't surprise me if DCC turned off all there cameras off over one incident.

@NealCocklin not so much a car crash, someone jumped off the bridge infront of a truck .... Just was out there, so awful

Saw something earlier about someone passing and it looked like there was just a truck in the middle of the road. Seems to fit with that tweet above.

someone jumps from the bridge, in front of a truck, truck swerves and crashes blocking four lanes.

    makes sense unfortunately.

Hope the truck driver is ok. dont hold much hope for the jumper.

If that's the case then god love the poor family getting that news.

    And the truck driver :(

^Would explain why so many ambulances and fire engines too. Truck swerves or stops suddenly, others must have been hurt too.

What an awful thing to happen. It's quite surprising actually that it doesn't happen more. Ireland has quite a high rate of suicide but it's rare to hear of it happening this way.

It's really not that rare at all. Also, nobody can know if it was suicide. It's not really our place to judge based on a few randomers tweets and accounts of what they witnessed.

Members of the persons own family may not yet be aware of what happened.

I've never heard of someone jumping off a motorway bridge into traffic. Heard a few stories of people jumping off bridges in Scotland but never here.

There might have been a shooting. All over a mates facebook.

16 year old shot in a drive by in Crumlin around 9pm. Not sure it would have anything to do with this.

They've a good choice of DIY death bridges there.

And no chance of traumatising innocent motorists below either.

it's the name of a club in Berlin and it alludes to a subject close to me.

tbh, the term "personal tragedy" doesnt make sense in any way... It is not a personal tragedy, many people were affected, not just the guy who jumped...

I do agree with my old pal Lapin above, that the person could have chosen somewhere that it wouldnt affect anybody else, but you dont think about that at the time.

That the gardai were personally affected as a result of one of their own being hurt?

What I mean is, whenever a member of An Garda Síochána is killed or injured the entire force takes it personally.

So what. It has the very topic of this thread in its title. Not everyone knows about clubs in Berlin.

Anyway, I'm not going to go off topic over it.

My first thoughts tonight are with that poor truck driver.

What happened earlier on the M50 was indeed tragic.
And my sympathy goes to those connected to the deceased.

But I'm not going to shed any tears for someone I didn't know.
Unfortunately suicide is a sad fact of life (and death) and all too common.

In the past two months I have attended the funerals of 3 people who chose what I call DIY death.
Its more apt than that bloody awful PC term 'Died by Suicide'.

Ans I make no apology for referring to the Forth Bridges as I did in response to an earlier post. They are well known for suicide jumps.
And what I said was entirely true.

Jumping 100s of feet into an estuary only harms the person that jumped.
Jumping from an overpass on to a busy motorway potentially fúcks up the lives of many more innocent people.
