Ya I hate all those books/people/articles that assume you are awash in in this serene glow, gladly awaiting the biggest life change bar none, and never mention that you can be worried, stressed and lets face it, life is not going to ever be the same again, both good and bad. It will switch again and you'll concentrate on the good things to come, first smile, first time s/he looks at you and knows you're someone special or the first laugh. Let it out and you'll be grand.

I agree with aknitter and just remember- 'This too shall pass...'

Having a lot of what I can only presume are false contractions tonight, lots of period type pains. I'm not sure what's going on. It doesn't feel like contractions in the sense that there's no finite start and end to them, the pain seems to last a while and ebb away but it's very uncomfortable more so then sharp and painful.

I'm presuming it's Braxton Hicks that are getting a bit sore. Will see how I go tonight anyway.

I don't want to be like this in the evenings for the next 4 weeks til baby arrives!

Anyone know if you have to go in strait away if waters break even if no contractions?

According to the midwife at my antenatal class, yes. You can have a shower (but no bath) and get ready but we were told to go in as soon as we can. also get a sample if the waters to bring with you uf you can! Apparently even if you are not in labour they keep you in hosp to keep an eye out for infection.

Have you just had a shock?! Something happening?!

Not 100% sure tbh, which may sound strange but that is why I not rushing down.

Waters can leak slowly as well as far as I know so maybe just get a pad and keep an eye on it for the next hour or so.

    Best of luck anyway :)

Thanks girls feeling alot better now!
Murdy i hav had some nights like that past two weeks but think it can be bump dropping etc and always worse in evenings but not all time.

Yes think shower and quick snack and go in after waters!
If think it is ur Aswel to get checked cause hospital need no if fluid is going

Proulx, I would definitely at least call the hospital and let them know the situation vis a vis the waters. If it really is the waters, then you're definitely in labour!! They might ask you to wait home as long as the waters aren't stained with meconium and until contractions begin/get closer together. Keep us updated!!! AHHHH ANOTHER BABY...

Murdy-false labour is sooo annoying, but not a lot we can do about it- do time them if they start to seem regular though! :D

At this rate all the June babies will be born in May. lol.

It is really annoying and uncomfortable! I'm not under any illusions that it's anything other than false labour anyway. I'd be surprised if it turns into proper contractions.

I keep saying I'd love baby to come now but this has made me realise I was actually counting on having three more weeks to get ready, so he can chill in there for a little while longer if he wants :)

Is anyone ever REALLY ready to have a baby....

Last day of may and then it's our month :) wahoo

True! But I realised I'm looking forward to the long weekend so nice to have that :)

I know Lynda, last day of May! Crazy :)

I know, I was thinking that tomorrow we'll be able to say our babies are coming this month! Makes it seem even more real...

How are you this morning? Did the contractions continue throughout last night/this morning? Is your stomach sore? I found after my 4 days of false labor that my stomach hurt like I'd been doing situps all day! No wonder they say giving birth is tiring, your body is physically making you exercise whether you like it or not. :D

Funny you should say that, my stomach is in bits! I slept so badly as well. I'm like a zombie now. I think I did have some during the night, I was awake a lot anyway but they weren't string enough to rousecme fully. Going to have a shower to wake up and go for a walk to see if that helps. I do think baby is engaging a bit, my bump looks lower and I feel more pressure. We'll see anyway :) I might be imagining it!

    How are you feeling?

I feel fine, a little bit of the mucus plug came out yesterday but not much so I'm not holding my breath. It's really nice to not be having contractions actually, I feel more normal now than I did earlier this week! At least it means our uteruses are well toned for giving birth- shorter labour? We can hope...

When's your next gp appointment? They can tell you if baby has engaged!

GP appointment is on Tuesday - I need to ring and make it actually. Then the following Tuesday back to the hospital I think he's making his way down there anyway, it's nice to feel that the baby will actually be arriving in a few weeks, Up until now it's felt like it will never happen!

Glad you are feeling better and the contractions aren't annoying you. Crazy about the mucus plug - could be soon!

I know! Husband is worried about me travelling from Limerick to Galway today to meet my mother, even though it's such a short trip. He'll be joining me after work and we'll be heading up to Mayo for the weekend.

He really feels it could come at any minute, despite all my reassurances that it's very unlikely!

My hubby is the same! We were supposed to take a day trip to Birr tomorrow to visit the castle and the telescope/science centre. I was looking forward to it but now hubby thinks it's not a good idea and we should stay closer to Dublin. Boo!

A weekend with the mammy in Mayo sounds nice :) We're going to collect our travel system on Sunday and then have lunch with my parents which I'm looking forward too. I want to have one last full baby free bank holiday weekend!

You never, know - baby could be here soon and your hubby could have to deliver it on the back roads of Mayo!! We've taken bets on the date I'll go and whoever gets closest gets a present of their choice (I'm thinking something nice to wear for when I get my figure back!). Hubby has guessed 14th June and I've stuck with my date of 28th June (so 4 days overdue). He's convinced baby is coming earlier now :)

I can see how it's stressful for the person with the mother though- they have to take charge of the situation to a certain extent, help you get to the hospital etc. I'm guessing mama would be a bit too preoccupied with the contractions to be able to contribute too much, unless it's early labour and you have loads of time. I really think that husband thinks that baby will be sliding out or something.... not gonna happen!

We did consider going up north to see his family for the bank holiday, but everyone thought I'd be insane to go so far away from home at this stage, so I'm sticking to the homestead. Not quite as adventurous but at least I get away from Limerick for a bit!

Birr isn't that far for you guys- I'm sure you'd be grand?

It's a 2 hour drive so not too bad at all but hubby thinks it's not a good idea, I get so tired and sleep so much too that he thinks it would take too much out of me. Like you said, it's hard for the men because they are responsible for getting us to the hospital etc so I don't want to make him uncomfortable!

We might go to Liffey Valley instead to see a film and go to Spur Steakhouse which apparently has reopened. Hubby is South African and Spur is a South African chain so we're excited there is one in Dublin :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 365 ✭✭paperclipgrad

Oooh, husband's brother in law is also South African (We're going to their braai on monday) so I'll have to share that info with him...

Last time we visited he told us about the time that they didn't have an alarm system for one day (they'd just moved house) and their house was robbed with his sister put at gunpoint. Living there sounds terrifying!

So i survived the raw chicken breast. Feel a bit invincible now actually :D

Your husband sounds very sweet Murdy - he's obviously a real worrier. Mine thought we should go to Kerry! Seriously - I think he'd actually kill me because we'd need to stop every five minutes to go to the loo. i actually don't think that there is a place in Ireland further away from Dublin.

Lol! the peeing is a good point, I need to be so often these days :) Glad the raw chicken didn't have a lasting effect. I was just thinking last night how terrible it was that the restaurant served it to you like that. Bad form on their part! Kerry would probably be a bit far for me too - have you got other nice plans instead?

He is a big worrier and is also just dying for the baby to get here. He's beside himself with excitement. Hope baby doesn't keep him waiting too long!

Does he constantly ask how you are/if you had contractions that day/anything feeling new/different? Sometimes I think he's more excited about the baby than I am. :D

Got a TENS machine off my sister in law for the early labour and tried it on my arm. It made my thumb twitch like mad, it feels really weird! Looking forward to trying it out for real- though it says on the box not to use it on your back before 37 weeks because....?? I don't know, maybe it induces labour?

Sounds like you all have lovely weekends planned, I'm heading to my Mothers on sat night with the children and himself is going out, I am making him do it as it'll be the last time before christmas that I think we'll be able to swing it. He's more relaxed now as its our 3rd so he knows the chances of being caught unawares are small. Besides, there's 3 people in my mams who can drive so if worst comes to worst I'll have no bother getting to the hospital!

I think I just pulled a muscle in my back, was on the floor looking for the remote control and got back up awkwardly, think I'll take a paracetamol and sit with a hot water bottle when small man goes for his snooze....great stuff altogether.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭MurdyWurdy

Yep, every noise I make he asks if I'm ok, even if I'm just groaning bending down or something!

That sounds nice aknitter, it's nice to go home for a while and be looked after! Good your hubby can have a night out too :)

I was all set to go for a walk but suddenly felt nauseous, sore and weak so have taken to the bed again. Urgh :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭lynda18

Haha my oh also thinks baby will pop out no idea how long it be and how plenty time to get to hospital! But to be honest two hours car
Journey just wouldn't appeal to me right now. From sitting 3
Hours straight in pub other night my
Feet swelled and got so sore.

I'm just back from walk. Only walked up and back bank which 20 min away but still feel it was a deal ;) ha! Feeling well today though just odd cramp and back ache but can't complain for only 12 days Togo I'm pretty
    Good nick!

Thinking going cinema later could be last
Time we can go for long time :)

Couch kitten so glad ok from chicken.

It's June! Hurray :) We're almost there everyone

Hope you all had a lovely day. I was out at the cinema and dinner which was nice, lovely to get out of the house. I am having a lot of cramps/pains in my bump though (see pregnant woman moan thread!) so I was in a bit of pain during the movie which was annoying. I kept wondering if it was going to turn into contractions so I couldn't really relax but it isn't. Pain is fairly constant so it's more false labour stuff. It looks like I won't be walking far over the next while! Going to have a bath now to see if that helps with the discomfort! Lucky I listened to hubby and we didn't go to Birr today - I would not have been able to sit in the car for very long or walk around at all. I was in a bad way going in to the cinema. I genuinely thought I was having a contraction when it first started!

Going to collect the travel system tomorrow - so excited for that. :)

Cinema and dinner sounds lovely MW.

Was so excited to wake up this morning on June 1st!!! It's our month!! Yay!!

Had a lovely lie in - except for some mad pregnancy dreams!! But slept well overall - up just the once ;-)

We hit ikea as it was the only thing I had energy for - we were there only about 90 minutes - I just wanted to pick up a 2nd cheap and cheerful changer as I'm going to need one upstairs and downstairs given that pretty much all i'll be doing is changing nappies with my (current!) youngest just 14 months old! So I can't be going upstairs all the time and my back would be in bits if I was leaning on the sofa all the time. So I assembled that tonight - hubby has gone down to see his brother tonight - I think he thinks that 3 is the magic number of never getting out again as he seems to have terrible cabin fever recently!! I think he's trying to maximise the time before the sleepless nights kick in again! (not that he EVER once did a nightfeed because I was breastfeeding - but there'll be no lie ins - because if I'm up feeding during the night he'll be getting up in the mornings with the other two!)

I hope everyone is well - I've just remembered to turn the calendar - going to go into the kitchen to make it all official!!
