I cannot see Crowie taking a podium with that much time to make up!

@75.3m on the bike -- time made up on Molloy since swim

    Molloy 4:25
    Ryan 4:28 -- 14 mins
    Muldoon 4:29 -- 8 mins
    O'Brien 4:33 -- 8 mins
    Martin 4:36 -- 8 mins
    O'Gorman 4:39 -- 10 mins
    Dolan 4:45 -- 20 mins

Gives an idea on who is really motoring... it will be interesting to see what this bike effort has taken out of the chasing boys though...

Looks like Molloy is in trouble. 18.56 mi/h for the section to the 90mile mark whereas Ryan posted 21.40 mi/h, Muldoon 21.05mi/h, MOB 20.38 mi/h

I think Dolan will make more time as bike goes on - the others will slow more. Most of them. Ryan lead Muldoon and then Molloy through 90.

If Jacobs keeps her lit he should be with Hugeknackers by about 21/22miles

Dolan 4:54 bike, fastest of the Irish and 12mins behind Ryan going into run, passed 1300 on the bike:eek:

Sorted by position on course. Hard to see Muldoon being caught as running well.

    Muldoon first Irish 9:29
    Ryan AG Podium 9:33
    O'Gorman 9:39
    Martin 9:44
    MOB 9:47
    Dolan 9:53

    6 sub 10s... impressive!

Molloy raced too much IMO this year but should be in sub 10:10 well done to him for plugging away
Ferrick, Cummins, McLaughlin and the 2 ladies still plugging away

Tracker jammed, I'm going to sleep now...

Well done to all the Irish today... hard not to be inspired :)

Stayed up late watching this last night, couldnt hang on to see it out. The women's race was amazing even if my girl crush Chrissie wasnt there. It's mind blowing to wake up today and still have people finishing!

its on his blog bink marino .be i think, photo of macca ramming his bike in to him at the mount line, meant he only had 4 or 5 gears for whole ride, he tagged the photo of it 'thanks macca'

From translation: 'Oh well, first closed the gap caused by that inconvenience [macca crashing into his rear wheel] in my own tempo and while doing that had some more trouble with McCormack before he quit after 70km (What was he even doing here).'

Firstly, my view on the Irish guys doing Kona is that their achievements deserve huge respect and they have mine. Fair play to them for making the sacrifices and putting in the work.

However, having gone back and looked at some of these guys results I noticed that some of them don't seem to be getting any real improvements year on year. In fact some of the guys have slower run times than previous years. They could all do with swim work (molloy excluded) and I am sure they know it. I know they are still sub 9 30/10 hrs but they seem stuck in and around that mark. I am talking about sub 9. Some of them registered for events on the basis that they will go sub 9 - so that is there aim.

My question is - what do they have to do to improve at that level. Peter talks about 6 hrs turbos but I think someone should sit down and say u should do 8/10 hrs swim technique work per week rather than a 6 hr turbo. I think serious swim coaching may have helped one of these guys win his age group.

They all come in or below 5hr mark on bike, some say static on swim times rather than make the jump that Gordo Byrn did on his swim times (so I am assuming its possible) and their run times seem the same or a few minutes better or worse.

I myself am just a BOP but curious on anyones thoughts.

I struggle to follow the train of thought in Peters posts but 6 hour turbos - structured well there is no better beast.

To improve at swimming most (myself included) have to break it down to the most basic of basics, the embarassing stuff, the slow tedious annoying stuff.
its not as much fun as 10x400 balls out, but probably more useful.

I see Darren Smith apologising to his athletes for screwing up their timing/taper in Kona. Have to admire his honesty
