It's looking that way. Provisional figures for Nov 2019 should increase over the next couple of days. Currently looks like wettest November in 5 years at Phoenix Park, 10 years at Baldonnel and 17 years at Dublin Airport.

    Station|Nov 2019 (provisional)|Record (Nov)|Year|Wettest Nov Since|Value|Wettest month since|Value|Wettest month ever|Value
    Dublin Airport|171.1mm|186.7|2002|2002|186.7|Dec 2015|192.1|Dec 1978|217.0
    Phoenix Park|153.5mm|191.1|1965|2014|154.3|Dec 2015|192.8|Dec 1978|231.0

25 mins getting dressed, 50 yards done n a skinning sleet shower, turned round and did a 2hr turbo sesh.

I'm off work tomorrow so I'll do 3hrs in better weather conditions.

Depends on which direction you’re going :)

Supposed to be dry by morning in Dublin, but winds may remain strong/gusty. I’m hoping for a PB as I head north east into city centre.

    Might dust off the strava.

looked out the window about 6am, car covered in ice.
about 7am, woken by sound of rain being driven against the window. turned my alarm off and stayed in bed.

now it's actually pleasant looking out there, but it's 2C and the wind has teeth.

Wimped out this morning, it was pissing rain and freezing, much regret now :(

I thought that rainy morning in October was the wettest journey I'd ever have, but this evening has leapt ahead of it. Also, strong squalls mixed in. Really awful.

Still, better than every other option, as usual.

Awful evening for cycling. Wet and windy doesn't come close to descripting it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,850 ✭✭✭FouxDaFaFa

Those were some of the worst conditions I've cycled in. I had to stop and walk the bike to a shop because I wasn't happy with the stopping distance I was getting, it was impossible with stop and start traffic and how wet the road was. Horrendous.

It was the worst journey I've ever had to make on a bike, and I've done an awful lot of journeys on a bike.

Block headwind and driving rain for 20 fcuking k home this eve, got blown out of my lane by a gust at one point.
    Miserable.

Yeah pretty ropey in Dublin heading west out the south quays. Usual tailgating and messing in the bus / bike lane didn’t help. Lots of standing water and nearly came a cropper on a few dodgy manhole covers. Was glad to reach the relative safety of the Phoenix park. Only saving grace was I had a tailwind.

Worst commute yet. Heading east on the quays had to get off a walk for a bit until I turned off.

Not ashamed to say I bottled it tonight, got a 10 euro voucher from free now so hopped on a Luas to the terminal and got a taxi home, cost me €4.10 all in so a no brainer, but I did cycle a Dublin bike to the Luas so not a total wimp!!

Yesterday evening was terrible BUT i had a lovely tailwind for about 10 k and I was flying!

I kind of weirdly enjoyed Wednesday and Thursday last. Absolutely soaked through and my shoes were like I had been wading in a river, but nice warm fire and shower when I got home.

My commute is not long enough to get very cold - would be different if I had to deal with the torrential rain for an hour or more. Didn't have time to start shivering or anything.

I had Christmas drinks in the neighbours Thursday evening and they were all talking about how bad the traffic was, some took 1hr 45min to get home from city centre. Then one says “sure at least we weren’t cycling” while nodding at me and smiling. Yep, I got soaked through, but it took 34 minutes. Just like every other day.
