    Cheers.

Don't eat a lot of fruit as it is due to sugar. If anything, just one banana.

yeah, but it's natural sugar contained in the fruit
nothing wrong with fruit, as long you're not eating copious amounts of the stuff.
    whats wrong with bananas?

Insulin spikes and up regulation of glucose receptors.

If you want to maintain stable blood sugar levels, not experience massive peaks and drops in energy level and stay on track with your diet, all heavy carb foods are best avoided.

Have a low kcal fibrous juicy piece of fruit instead.

Forgive the messy post, I'm typing from my mobile.

To answer your question: No you do not need to run in order to lose weight. However you will obviously lose more if you choose to do so as you'll be burning more calories. I find running quite enjoyable; it gives me energy, I feel good and it's nice to be fit! But it's absolutely not necessary - some of the most ripped bodybuilders you'll find do absolutely 0 cardio. It's all diet and weight training.

I'm not sure why people are saying you should avoid carbs. As your goal is simply weight loss, unless you believe you'd fall victim to a carb induced snacking spree, you would be better advised to work towards upping your protein intake (which would probably cause you to substitute carbs the without much thought) and keeping track of your overall calorie intake and expenditure. NOT just on a day to day basis but weekly too. If you decide to run alongside your weights I'd recommend keeping some carb intake. It varies depending on the individual, but I definitely find my running is better fueled when I have eaten a meal rich in good protein and carbs beforehand.

IF diets work in the same way. In the day to day cycle you end up being in a calorie deficit while still allowing a satisfying intake of food.

You need to find something that works well for you and, most importantly, something you can stick by. That might be limiting carbs, fats; stocking up on veg or just upping your protein intake - in the end it still comes down to calories. energy in; energy out.

I'm going to throw this in AGAIN before anyone gets antsy...

Assuming a sufficient protein intake, and a calorie level that supports ones goal, the carbs/fat split doesn't matter from a metabolic standpoint. It only matters from a diet adherence standpoint.

Because we live in the, ya know, real world? And anything which supports a diet and keeps you on track long term is the way to go.

aye.. calories are all that really matter if you're focusing on weight loss

I completely forgot to have dinner tonight.. so I had a snickers and an apple instead half an hour ago :D

still puts me at a deficit for the day so i'm not terribly concerned. the key words are long term as hanley said. even if I spent the next week pigging out on 1 euro sixpacks of chickatees and bags of apple drops.. I'd still wander down to aldi the week after and load my bag up with some veg and meat. If you manage to change the way you think about food in general instead of just trying to restrict yourself for weight loss.. that's more than half the battle there. I love what I eat these days.. all I have to do is wait and the weight loss will continue, no effort required on my part and if I choose to spend a few days making myself feel like crap eating loads of sugary nonsense from the sweetshop all that means is my eventual goal is a little further down the road, not that big a deal.

finally weighed myself properly this morning having bought a scales yesterday evening

12st 12lb down from about 14s10lb at some point in the summer..3-4 months ago probably

probably would have lost a bit more if I'd rigidly stuck to the diet instead of porking myself from time to time but as I said earlier, sod it.. I'll get there eventually. lifestyle change rather than weight loss should be the goal. so just to point out again to the OP it's more than possible to lose weight just by diet

also, my last post in this thread was prophetic.. I spent the last 2 days pigging out on chickatees and curly wurlys :D back on track now though

Eh, I'm no expert, but this seems terrible!!
Back home, I log onto the Marks & Spencer home page, where a four-week meal planner tells me exactly what to eat each day to maintain a calorie count of around 1,050 a day — the recommended intake for dieters.

I went from over 21 stone in january to 13 stone as of yesterday,by majorily changing my diet,I didnt diet,I changed my liefestyle for the better.I ate far more smartly with decent food, cut out the usueless processed crap, cut out legumes, dairy and carbs from my diet and instead ate veg, fish, meat, fruit and nuts.
Because I also live in the real world I do have a cheat day which in the long run I have found very good in maintaining what I do now.
Also I train hard in the gym and karate which also has numerous benefits too.
But I found diet was the major turning point, exerecise and sleep been the others.
    Best of luck!

8 stone in 8 months, Jesus H Christ thats some going! I tip my hat to you Aquila:) Legumes i take it are beans etc i thought they were meant to be a good food?

    Nothing :)

It's a sad day for humanity when someone tells you not to eat mange tout for fear of getting fat.

    The Paleo Pick n Mix

I like the sound of Paleo pick n mix.

I don't think I could ever go fully Paleo as much as I'd like to. I am pretty much grain free at the moment.

80/20 I aim for. only when eating out at lunchtime do i find it difficult. once or twice a week Ill have a club sandwich but tend to be good other than that! can never understand somebody not wanting to at least go for the paleo pick n mix!

I don't eat bread but I do eat porridge with milk which isn't paleo (i think)

other than that my diet would be pretty much paleo.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,555 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

same.. bar the legumes and the one potato I have with dinner

I did have oats with my breakfast yesterday, natural yoghurt, frozen berries and oatmeal... felt kinda crappy all day. luckily enough natural yoghurt and frozen berries are delicious without the oats.. think ill grab some whey protein to throw in there to bulk it up a bit and I'll be sorted

I eat oatcakes. Pretty sure our ancestors didnt throw the salmon they had wrestled from the water onto an oatcake! i think most people take on board the low carb element of it mostly!

Diet plans alone cannot help in weight loss. It will only provide you essential nutrients and will not increase your calorie intake. However, to shed some pounds you need to exercise as it will help to control body weight.

Of course a diet plan can help with weight loss, anything that results in a calorie deficit will equal weighloss.

This comment confuses me, does that mean you think you lose weight by increasing calorie intake?

Exercise will increase the number of calories expended, this with a calorie deficit diet will result in faster weightloss, but in alot of peoples opinions a proper diet is > 80% work needed for weightloss.

Diet Plans are key. It's much easier, less stressful and healthier to plan a balanced diet around a caloric deficit and do exercise , than it is to eat a load of Sh**e , Feel like sh**e and then burn of the excess your eating and enough calories to make a deficit.Which , if you don't have some kind of plan is also going to be a shot in the dark....Theres a reason Diet plans work. Theres a reason people who eat healthily and don't exercise don't turn into the Morbidly obese mobility scooteresque creatures people who Eat Sh**e and DONT exercise do.
