Going well, I'm running 3 times a week at the moment, an easy run on Tuesday, a faster run on Thursday and a longish run on Sunday. I'm buying myself a spinning bike this weekend that I am planning on using in between. My marathon training plan begins in earnest after Christmas, I'm going to follow Hal Higdon Novice 1 training plan that I have on my iPhone as an app. It's great, you set the date for your marathon and it tells you when you will start and what runs to do each day. I followed his half marathon plan and it got me round Phoenix park!

I was looking at his plans for my attempt at full marathon, don't know if I will be doing a marathon any time soon. I think I will just train away going to try half marathon distance at the end of the month see if I can beat my dublin half time.
Just setting my self little short times goals to keep me going. Also download other people routes to see how I fare out. What time are you looking for at full marathon? Will you be doing the Dublin Race Series next year?

Next year I hope to do the Edinburgh marathon in May, then the Dublin half in September again, not sure if I should do any more?

This morning I did a fast 5k on the TM, and did it in 32 mins, I was WRECKED after it, this is faster than my normal speed, and to be honest I think I could run faster outside...but at 5.20am its not enticing...lol

Sweet mother of ...! A fast 5K at 5:20am! You hero! I can't do any faster than very very easy pace in the mornings, and I've never tried running any earlier than 7.
Bless your cotton socks for getting going that early! :P

    ...and on a dreadmill too!

Just back in from a slow muddy 9 miles, feet soaked! The joy of running in autumn, it's all good and nothing a long soak in the bath won't cure. The roads are slippy with fallen leaves and you really need to watch your step, leaves could be covering a wee pothole! Rural roads in county Armagh are a bit like trails!

The joys of winter, Went out in the rain lucky enough it stopped 10 mins in, Went for a nice 10 miles. Ran to the beach and back, need to get a bottle holder for water, local shop wanted €25 can get a better one from England online for about €15. got a nice green/lime jacket think I will need to get running pants. How is the spin bike going for you?

I have not got one yet, I put an ad on gumtree for a second hand one as brand new they are about £700. What sort of bottle holder are you after? Try the new website by runners for runners it's local and I bought running tights and a top last week. I usually carry a small bottle of water for runs 8 miles and over, but I guess once my marathon training plan kicks in I will need a bigger one!

    Hi Zooming,

You're well on your way, really admire your focus and dedication. You'll amaze yourself over the next 12 months, goals you thought would never materialise will be stepping stones to greater things.

Yes I know what you mean about being dear! Will suss out gyms
Just done my bit of "speed" work, 5k on the TM 31 mins and 20 seconds, phew!!!! It was hard. I use a 2% incline. Actually I find it easier out on the road...
I'm heading off on holiday next Friday for a week, once I get back I'm going to concentrate on trying to get a bit of weight off between then and Christmas, in theory it should make running easier? I am pretty good fruit and veg wise but I enjoy a few sweeties now and again...... Any advice on the best running techniques to get weight down? Ideally I would like to drop between half and a full stone.

Absolutley it'll make running easier. You should take a look at "Racing weight" by matt fitzgerald.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Racing-Weight-Matt-Fitzgerald/dp/1934030511/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350490879&sr=1-1

He explains why its important to be lean and race at your optimum weight.
But just by increasing your running volume will result in weight loss without having to resort to extreme dieting. A lot of the pros run doubles in order to keep their weight at racing optimum, again it saves them from having to starve themselves lean. It is a good idea to eat clean though, for the sake of your health more than to lose weight. Theres all sorts of factors to take into account like type II diabetes, cholesterol, arterial clogging, liver damage, general ill health.

    Thanks!
I have ordered that book off Amazon, plus a running world training journal, its all very exciting!
I am thinking of all of those nervous folk preparing for Dublin and New York, I hope it all goes really well for them all

I had a nice run this morning, a 10 miler my longest since the half marathon. I was surprised that my first 5 miles was done in 53 mins which is faster than my normal 58 mins for that distance, maybe the mid week speed treadmill training was working?? Miles 1 to 6 were great. Ranging from 10.46 to 11.15 but from miles 7 to 10 it was all uphill so a good bit slower, anyway my 10 miles ended up dead on 2 hours, but if the last miles had been on the flat I would have been well under my normal time. I was pleased though and enjoyed it even though I was chased and jumped on by a distressed border collie. A very loud F**K OFF seemed to do the trick, probably offending the Sunday morning Church going folk though. Bloody farm dogs think they own the road.
