    Hi

I just got letter from AIB with information about fees.

I need to pay 30 euros for using:
    - internet access - 20 cent per visit
    - laser card - 20 cent per transaction
    - laser card withdrawn - 20 cent per withdrawn (even with AIB ATM)
    - 20 cent for every direct debit

and so on and so on.

In the letter it states that it will be sent every 3 months !!!

My question is - when it was changed ???

And other one is - is there other bank without those fees ?

    Tom

I got the same letter yesterday, it was for about €35. I was always under the impression that the more online transactions I made then there would be no costs/fees?. At this rate I will be going back to using cash.

It was in t/c when I read it last time - no fees if You do transfer or mobile top up.

But now it is 20 cents for mobile top up.

I think I will dust off my master card and start using it:
    - no charges on every purchase
    - only one fee when transferring cash.

    Tom

Ulster Bank - do they had issues some time ago ?

But this isn't savings account !!!

I have separate account for that (there is 30c on it but this is different story).

I am with Bank of Ireland and I get charged fees but these are waived if I carry out a certain amount of online transactions each month. Could you change banks?

I'm thinking about moving to different bank but I have master card with AIB - wonder can I leave it there and move current account to other bank ?

Wait hold on a second, does the letter say we get charged 20c every time we log in to AIB banking even if we are only checking accounts online?

Consider yourself lucky. Between various transaction fees, interest due, overdraft fees and unpaid dd fees (through my own stupidity) BOI have furnished me with a "bill" for almost EUR85 this quarter..

No, 20c for each transaction made through internet banking

I got a bill for over 30 quid yesterday - disgusted at being charged to use the online service... is that not desinged to lower costs / teller work?!
I've got savings but nowhere near the 2.5 K needed in my current account.

My parents are with Ulster Bank... the only thing I'm worried about if I switch is who I'd have a better chance getting a mortgage from in the next couple of years.

My wife is with AIB and got this "bill" yesterday for €24  I'm with Permanent TSB but haven't noticed them charging me like this. BUt then again it's me, could have missed that.
Does anyone know if Permanent TSB is charging fees like AIB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,088 ✭✭✭OU812

Just got home to find my "statement" for €30.40. They even charged for payments in which were done electronically so no work for them. Bastards.

Got a bill for 38 quid yesterday. €150 a year to bank with them?! **** off!

Closing the account today and changing to Ulster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,477 ✭✭✭newbie2

I suspect UB will be introducing fees sooner rather than later.

I also suspect they would have been introduced by now if UB hadn't made the big IT f++k up.

AIB's new fees are ridiculus - I've had an account with them since 1990. Been internet banking for free since the internet was invented. Having to keep €2500 in my account - earning no interest - is a farce. Luckily I can afford it ut I know many other cannot.
    AIB = C+nts

I also came home to that letter yesterday. I phoned AIB today to complain about them sneaking in those changes to the rules for free banking. They were totally unprepared for it! I got the impression that I was the only person that had called in to complain about this!

Anyway, I will also be switching to Ulster Bank because who knows what else they'll sneak in without informing their customers. The thing is though, I also trade shares with my AIB Online via Goodbodys. Hopefully someone on Boards can tell me is it possible to either open a separate account directly with Goodbodys and transfer my shares to it, or does Ulster Bank also enable share dealing with Goodbodys via its online banking? Basically I want to sever all ties with AIB and take all my shares with me.

I know the obvious answer is to contact Goodbodys and ask them! I did do this, but they couldn't answer my question, took my details, and said they'd call me back! I know from many previous dealings with Goodbodys that you have to chase them and chase them for even the simplest task, hence my asking the question here!

I've also received around €35 fee charge. Interestingly, I have had a balance of more than €2,500 in my current account throughout the quarter, after I had read this article in the Independent a while ago: http://www.independent.ie/business/personal-finance/latest-news/aib-tightens-free-banking-conditions-for-personal-accounts-3057307.html

It came as a surprise, as I haven't been notified by the bank in writing about such a drastic change (from the good old 0 to 35), whilst they tend to send a lot of useless material, and just read about it in the papers.
They did change the the terms & conditions unilaterally in July ( http://www.aib.ie/servlet/BlobServer?blobcol=urldata&blobtable=MungoBlobs&csblobid=1214428091314&blobkey=id&blobwhere=1214428091314&blobheader=application%2Fpdf ) without any notification.

AIB act like a thief in the night!
I will certainly go to my branch in the next few days to discuss this issue firmly.

Saw one of these 'statements' from a friend yesterday, was shocked. They had been charged over 50 quid.

Heads up for people planning to move to Ulsterbank - I received an email explaining and apoligising the banking error this morning and within the email was a section of recognising current account holders stating "A commitment not to introduce account maintenance fees for Personal Current Account customers until July 2013."

How good of them.. These charges look inevitable

Other half is with AIB and like everyone else got a shock with the fees.

If moving banks do you just open up a new account in another bank and close your aib or can you do a switch?

You can do whatever suits you best. After reading all these posts I'm glad I moved to UB before all the palava started. I even cited the upcoming fees as a reason for leaving although I was glad to get a visa debit too as I do lot of online shopping and laser was useless.

If you ask me there should be a law against transaction charges!!

Got this fee bill too the other day, totalling €38.80. Ba$tards have a cheek to charge for mobile top-ups and Internet banking. The whole point is that it cuts down on their paperwork, it should be free of charge.

With them since i was 16. Definitely moving. Bye bye AIB.

I got one of these too.. I do a transfer once or twice a month to my mothers account.. I don't do topups however :/
    So I still get fee's even though I carry a balance over 2.5k :/

I'm starting to think I might setup an account in the UK at this rate!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭uli84

this came handy for the Ulster Bank i have to say;) AIB had a chance to get more clients, oh well...looking at the number/amount of charges they don't care

I don't understand - it says if you keep 2.5k in your current account you're exempt, yet you still get charged?

I experienced the same problem. I've had more than 2.5K, yet they felt free to charge me. AIB->:pac: :( <-Me

Can it be that you dropped below 2,500 for a day or two? It's unclear whether you need to have this amount in your account every single day for the whole period or just on the last day. Somehow I'm afraid the former is their unreasonable charging method.

As for the UK option, it could work fine unless the UK used another currency. Unfortunately, converting your Euro income to Pound in order to pay later in Euro with your credit/debit card makes no economic sense.

Hi all contacted AIB today they said that they do not have to make contact with the customer to let them know about the change in criteria for obtaining free banking. I then rang the regulator who backs that story up! (Sounds familiar). They have to put the changes in the public domain. Which includes all national papers and customers have to check the public domain regularly.

I'm always been charged account fees with AIB and then the next line was a refund for the same amount. I'm assuming the procedure won't have changed except now they are mailing you the charges that you'll get refunded if you meet the criteria.

Closed my AIB account two weeks ago after banking with them for almost twenty years. Wasn't because of the fees, I just got sick of having to queue for 10+ minutes each time I was forced to visit a branch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭millie35

To add insult to injury they charged me when my wages were credited to my account.

Could you actually visit your branch? I find it too demanding.
My opens only on weekdays from 10am to 4pm (with the generous exception of Thursday when they work until 5pm).

AIB has never been a bank for working people. Now they also impose fees on poor working people, not to mention the miserable guys on the dole who get around €200 a week. They have no chance whatsoever to maintain a €2500 balance. Thus they can pay for the misdeeds of the richer customers...

aib is very handy for me because I can make a lodgment or withdrawal at every post office. Fees: 40e for me and 25e for my wife. AIB is loosing two personal accounts now. What about Bank of Ireland, do they charge or not?

got my letter a few days ago, being charged 12.70, but ive noticed i can easily shorten that to a tenner from now on.

Was shocked to discover that im being charged 20c just to log into my account online to check balance etc. That fee is just criminal.

Don't think I was charged for logging in online just for every transaction, debit or credit.
