    http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh&brandid=7&fid=1422 (2nd one down)

from £501.63 plus VAT & Del.

if you inc. VAT and the free delivery to the north via parcel motel, it comes out at a little under €770 all in.

for your money, you get an as new refurb (or possibly even a cancelled delivery, never actually touched by a customer :)) with the following spec:
    XPS 13
Processor: Intel Core i5-2467M (1.60 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.30 GHz)
    Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
    4 GB Single Channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 DIMM)
Hard Drive: 128 GB Solid State Drive Mini Card
    Display: 13.3in Hi-Def (720p) True Life WLED Display with Skype-Certified 1.3MP Hi-Def Webcam
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Quad Core)
English Genuine Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium (64Bit OS)
    Back Up Media Not Included
Wireless: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (2x2 b/g/+ Bluetooth Combo Card)
    Battery : Primary 6-cell 47W/HR LI-ION
    Internal Qwerty Backlit Keyboard

there's also one with a 256gb SSD instead of the 128gb one for another £50 odd.

if you want the same laptop from Dell Ireland http://www.dell.com/ie/p/xps-13-l321x/pd it'll cost you €1150 inc. VAT & Delivery, so I reckon it's a pretty good saving if you ask me. :)

according to jesus_thats_gre from post #11 in this thread, if you put in the first line of your actual address in the billing address and use the delivery address for the rest, payment will go through okay.

i've only got my order confirmation so far, so i don't know if it's going to work or not, but i'm hopefully optimistic. :)

the XPS13 seems to be being targeted directly at the sort of people who might buy a 13" macbook air, but that would cost you €1300 for more or less the same spec. this way, I get size, performance and the looks of a macbook air for almost half the cost AND without actually having to go out and buy a mac. :D

Do these have the A01 trackpad or the buggy original one?

    + I got it at a misprice (£stg price = € at 1:1) and a vat back offer :)

    I'm a little disappointed myself tbh. :(

nearly 400 quid off an €1150 ultraportable (which are projected to account for up to 50% of laptop sales in 2012) and not a sniff of interest off anyone. :(

Ah well, can't win them all I guess.

i wonder if you could get away with both cashback offers?

the £150 trade in says not to be used with any other offer, but you'd be doing that first and then mailing off your receipt to samsung separately for the £100 cashback there, so you might be able to get £250 off which would be very attractive, especially as both seem to be mail in rebates.

    It's a very good deal!

I nearly bought one myself but was put off by (1) Screen Resolution (2) Non upgradable RAM and (3) Ivy Bridge processor.

But it's still a very good ultrabook and realistically I doubt I'd be able to tell that much of a difference performance wise between it and the one I went for in the end, which cost me not a million miles off twice the price:)

What I really want is an ultrabook with a hi res screen at a reasonable price - not really that bothered about performance. I have yet to find one that fits the bill!

There's a real lack of them but more due out over the next few months.

    I got an Asus UX32VD and it's got a full 1080p screen on a 13.3" display.

It looked tiny for the first day or two but once I got used to it it's fine (other than making the resolution on every other screen look gigantic!)

This is a good place for keeping up to date with new models coming out: http://ultrabooknews.com/

The plan is to use it to replace my wife's recently decreased 10.1" Samsung nc10 netbook, so I think she'll be more than happy with it.

She loves the look of the MacBook air, but I know that osx would wreck her head, so paying half the price for more or less the same thing but with Windows on it will be ideal.

I had been hoping to find something ultrabook sized but with a convertible rotating touchscreen to turn it into a part time tablet like some of the new Lenovo notebooks I've seen, but the only one I could find (a Lenovo) was to big and too expensive.

If someone could do something like that I'd be very happy. :)

PS, I'd go for the 256GB one over the 128Gb.

You'll run out of space pretty quickly with the 128Gb!

it's the Dell outlet store, you don't get a choice, you have to take what they have on offer.

And 128gb is plenty. It'll be replacing a netbook with a 60gb ssd that still has plenty of free space on it and I have a 10tb NAS in the attic so I'm doing okay for storage. ;)

Does that Currys ultrabook have a 500gb SSD? Looking to buy a laptop for college, doing a Computer Games Development course so would need fast enough one with decent graphics...

Definitely not. It might have a hybrid hard disk with 32GB SSD.

Wouldn't have thought this machine would be a suitable gaming rig. Im not a gamer though, so really can't say whether it'd run.

I love the look of these, but what's keeping me from buying one is the low res screen, and ideally I'd want more than 4GB ram.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭zoomtard

I just bought one of the Samsung 5-series from Currys Ireland for €829. It comes with 6gb of ram, qualifies for Samsung's €100 cashback and it will qualify for the Windows 8 €15 upgrade.

I'm pretty happy with it to be honest and it is better value all things considered than the XPS 13.

    Looks like a 24GB ssd

Wonder if you purchase from UK in Sterling and claim from ROI address do you get Euro or Sterling

Terms... "Claims from the United Kingdom will be paid in Pounds Stirling; claims from the Republic Of Ireland will be paid in Euro."

Little cheaper from http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_530U3B_ULTRA_1189966.html with a 16GB ssd and only 4G ram

Similar model 30 euro cheaper...6GB Ram but only 16GB SSD http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_530U3B_1215397.html
    Not sure how shipping compares

Where'd you get yours? Been looking around and can't find one with a qwerty keyboard anywhere!

Indeed. But I bought it here: http://www.currys.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-Series-5-NP530U3C-133andquot-Ultrabookandtrade-Silver/314881/148

I wandered into a Curry's store yesterday to have a look at it. It looks really nicely put together. I am a fan of Dell because of their extended warranties (I keep my computers running as long as I can) and they usually have excellent customer service (in my experience). But this is the perfect combination of specs for me.

my first NAS was a 7 bay Thecus N7700, but I wouldn't recommend them for anything other than straight file sharing. if you want bells and whistles, go for a synology device.

my current NAS was a self built FreeNAS server with 8x 2tb disks which gives me 10.7tb of usable storage with dual parity, so I can survive the failure of up to 2 of the 8 disks at the same time and without losing any data. :)

Pop the keys off, rearrange them and change the regional settings to Irish

This isnt possible on the new models which is why im looking for one with a QWERTY keyboard.

Option B would be to get the keyboard you want on eBay for about £30 and swap it yourself afterwards

    any reports on it?

i'm actually holding off getting it for now.

i'm half thinking of going completely the other way with an Asus Transformer infinity when the UK version is launched on the 10th September.

Altho i had a look at the samsung ultrabook mentioned on page one of the thread in currys yesterday and it's pretty nice.

I was thikning of going elsewhere also but every dell i have had I upgrade the warranty to 3 year onsite and its worth its weight in gold. Do all manufactures offer this do you know??

in saying that the dells I have had have broken down numerous times and had parts replaced under warranty but I never was down for more then 2 days with the onsite support

Just ordered a refurbished 14z from the UK Dell outlet. They're doing free shipping for the next few weeks - normally £22. Payed £370 - aprox €464 (€679 new from Dell.ie). I have my doubts that the purchase will go through as you're supposed to use a UK credit card which I don't have. They will only ship to the address that your credit card company has on file so I had to change this to the parcel motel one:eek: The order acknowledgement email says:
Your order will be released into production as soon as your Bank has cleared your payment

so I'll just have to wait and see.If worse comes to worst I have a friend of a friend in NI who could probably order for me.

If it does go through I'm happy enough to take the risk of having limited insurance for the trip from Parcel Motel's NI depot to Dublin as they seem to be very reliable.

Has anyone actually succeeded in ordering from the UK Dell outlet with an Irish credit card/Parcel Motel?

Had a look at that myself yesterday - thought the screen was pretty crappy for the price. I'm not too fussed about performance or thinness/lightness (although I draw the line at a 17 incher!) but really love a sharp screen - my iPad 3 has me spoiled. Unfortunately you have to pay crazy money for a decent HD+/full hd IPS screen. I wish some manufacturer would realease an averaged specced laptop with an above average screen.

Given my budget I've had to settled for a Dell 14z which will mainly be used for my wife's work stuff anyway!

I reckon so although it's not 100% clear if it's the 2012 model although specs look like it is. I suppose if I was patient I could have asked them tomorrow when the online chat support was open.

i think only the first line of the address is checked, so if you put that in it should work.

the other thing is, i think if you get a particular address on file with your CC company ahead of time, they will still authorise it.

*neither of these things may actually work*

i got a call about my order and ended up cancelling it and i was planning on getting the asus transformer infinity instead, but amazon are farting around with it and even tho it went on sale officially on 10th sept. (with a UK amazon exclusive sales deal with asus) only a few early pre-orders seem to have gone out so far and the only one on there ATM is with a french azerty keyboard. komplett have the US/International version, but I like my @ key in the right place. :D

Sorry vibe666 I'm not 100% clear - did you actually order from the Dell UK outlet using the first line of your address as in this post I found a few minutes ago?

Did Dell then call you because they thought the order looked dodgy?

I tried changing the address to an NI address before but it didn't work eventually as it will raise a flag as payment will have to go through an ROI bank. Let me know how you get on....

Figured as much - no word from Dell yet. Might have to go through the friend of a friend route after all.

I have the Samsung ultrabook that's been mentioned on this thread a bit. Can't fault it, can even play any game I throw at even with just its integrated graphics. Only thing I wish it had was a backlit keyboard but I can live without it. It was a great deal for £549 after £100 cashback.

i read another thread about purchasing from the dell outlet store that mentioned that the first line of the address was the only one that is checked to authenticate the card and that if you put it in the billing address as a UK address but use the first line of your own address in it, it will go through okay.

HOWEVER i got a call back to say it hadn't gone through, but i'm not sure if it was due to my available credit being too low (it was slightly over my limit, but those transactions usually go through okay) or due to the address problems.

by the time they called me i'd already decided not to pursue it if it didn't go through first time, so i never bothered to check the reason it was declined with my bank.

i have also read elsewhere that as long as a delivery address that is different from your billing address (i.e. UK parcel motel address) is registered as a valid delivery address with your credit card company, that these authorisation checks will go through okay.

i have never actually bothered to test it out though so i can't confirm 100% that either of the above methods will work. :)

it's not like it's illegal to have a credit card based in another country, i don't see the problem there if they are delivering to the UK?
