I just ordered a stock from boyds.

The blaster thumbhole was in stock. No pun intended. And it will be sent to me probably on Monday. I will receive an email letting me know when it is shipped. I have a tracking number so I can follow its movements.

So now all I have to do is sit and wait.

Hopefully I will have it in a week or so.

the unfinished stock. ie not inlet-ed or sprayed but shaped ready for finishing cost $54 but the shipping cost $63. crazy but it still only translated to €95.30 shipped to my door. not so bad i think.

i could not get the stock i wanted in the style i wanted that was inlet-ed for the donor action i have so my only option is to do it my self

i will have to wait and see if i get stung for duty or anything else before i start celebrating.

That's a bit steep alright. Not too bad with that stock though. Same as a thumbhole on it's own.

Is that their standard fee for all stocks? I'd presume so.

its the only one i have ever ordered so i cant comment as to weather different ones cost more or less.

if this one works out i will be ordering more down the line and i will let you know of any difference in cost

Seems to be, I was quoted the same when I enquired about one.

They cant ship over $100 either, luckily they priced the majority of their stocks at $99, but people have bought more expensive stocks off the and they put it down as 99$ and a second payment for the remainder made with it.

€130 for a stock delivered to the door is great value.

how long will you be keeping us in suspense for paulo?

all good things come to those who wait..

The varmint thumbhole stocks I bought cost $51.70 for shipping.
I never had to pay VAT on any of them but a mate got one recently and had to pay it.

I got one of their stocks and Edi bedded it for me.
They are well made stocks and very convenient for a less common rifle like the Browning A-bolt.
I'd still rather have one of the PSE stocks though!

I agree with that fully. When funds allow I will be having one or two from edi

There is quite a bit of scope to lighten the stock, I cut 2" off the foreend as it was quite long, I could also have drilled the butt as well but I was running short of time as it was so close to the season starting.
Finished it in matt 2 pack floor coating which is as hard as you could imagine.

Hi Paulo6.5 will you do the inletting yourself ?
I bought a boyds uninlet thumbhole stock last year and my mate fitted it to my sako 85 stalking rifle.
There was a good bit of work in it but he made a great job of it.
The rifle handles a lot better now and felt recoil is a lot less than with the original synthetic stock.

yes i plan on doing the inletting my self. i am a carpenter and have routers and chisels out there in my shed ready and waiting.

i plan on making a jig up for my router so as i can repeat the process. all the fine work will be done by hand though.

this will be as much of a project rifle as i can undertake my self. the real important work will be done by Ireland custom rifles.

Curious to know poulo, how difficult you reckon inletting would be for a typical action. I take it the simplest thing would be to make a rough, deep inlet around the tang and recoil lug/barrel channel, carve out for the mag box and then use glass and pillars to actually make the form, rather than trying to cut it to form yourself? Thinking of having a stock made for my .25-06.

In my line of work I have fitted all sorts of locks, door closers and made doors and brackets that involved cutting a mortise. Some times simple and repetitive but on occasion there would be an odd shaped yoke that needs fitting.
To answer your question I would imagin it will be a learning experience and as long as I take my time and apply my years of experienc as a carpenter I should manage it.

I might be eating my words yet.

On another note. I just recieved confirmation that my stock will be shipped today. Right on track.

    So far so good. :D

Best of luck with your project Paulo.
I'd love a stock like that for my T3 lite, but alas I'm a humble electrician so I don't think I'd have the skills to inlet it myself. Is there anyone I cold get to do the inletting for me?

Thanks lads I am looking forward to it my self.

If you give Enda Walsh a shout I am sure he would oblige. He is a custom stock maker. I have seen some of his work and it would blow your mind. A real crafts man.

I changed my phone reciently and lost his number. I am sure someone on here will pass it on. He is also on face book.
