How would Pep deal with the stingy moneymen on the Arsenal board? Imagine his shopping list of players if he took the job, lol?

It wouldn't really matter who came in.
Someone who would want a huge transfer budget and wouldn't be given it.
    or
Someone who would not spend it even if he had it.

How do you know that? Bizarre thing to assume.

Its no more bizarre to assume that than it is to sugegst Moyes would be a success at a bigger club, or that Pep would be a success at a smaller club.

I would rather have Harry Enfield, and I am not joking either!

I think we need somebody younger and in for a long haul, not do a Chelsea on it and a new Manager after a few games.

Can the board use the money they're not using on buying players on buying a time machine? Getting Arsene from 15/16 years ago would be brilliant :pac:

Ya harry would be a gamble and the fact he was a spurs manager not so long ago prob wouldnt sit well but he could be worth a shot? Its very hard to tell who would suit to be honest!

Isnt wenger the highest paid manager in the premiership?
He gets more than any player we have!
Some laugh him on about not paying big wages but yet hes on monster wages himself:)

Unbeaten in the league since Dec 1st as well - imagine how things would be if we were on a poor run of form !

Don't think anyone is saying for now, it's more a future thing. You wont find many people who think he will still be manager in more than two years time, for various reasons. From stepping down to retiring at the end of his contract.

He said in his press conference today he is in the market but he won't buy average players
I hope that's what he will do

As I said to the Liverpool fella earlier I'm the thread I would rather u keep our 100 million than spend it in average players

We have enough of them and can't get rid

My real gripe with wengers transfers dealings is not this window, but they were plenty of players available in the summer and the money was there and he didn't make the signings then

For the life of me I don't no why

I think that is double speak for," we will not be buying anybody in January".

Very surprised to see this offered as an option in this thread and thanked! harrycarwindowredknapp I'd be sick

Harry would be just awful, big clubs have avoided him consistently for a reason.

Quiet possibly maybe the players are not there
No excuse for not doing summer deals though

Think we still need to sign a good strong defensive midfielder. Would M'Vila still be a good buy or has he gone completely by the wayside altogether?

I don't see anyone calling for his head here, in the last few pages anyway. Just preposing possible replacements. Nothing wrong with that.

I think Arsenal would be looking for someone for 5+ years, thus Pep would not be a possibility.

Pellegrini I would like but is 59 and would he move outside of Spain at this stage, and does he speak English. Excellent manager though imo.

If Laudrup keeps on doing well with Swansea then he would look like a strong candidate to me.

    Wengers comments on ticket prices

    From football365

The issue of prices resurfaced this week after Manchester City returned 912 unsold tickets to Arsenal, priced at £62, for Sunday's match at Emirates Stadium.
There have been calls for a cap on the amounts clubs charge away fans - especially for high-profile Category A matches - but the Premier League insists prices are a matter for individual clubs, while the Football Supporters' Federation want some of next season's bumper new TV deal passed on to fans by reducing ticket prices.
Wenger admits the situation is "delicate", but believes supporters will always have to make a significant contribution to revenue streams.
He said: "Ideally you want ticket prices to be as low as possible, but on the other hand the only way we can pay the wages and compete without any external help is through the ticket prices because it is our main income.
"Therefore we are in this situation where of course the prices are high.
"I am really worried they are high for our supporters. For the visitors, it only happens once per year, so that is less of a concern.
"We sell out our games, but ideally you want ticket prices to be affordable to everybody. It is a very delicate subject.
"It is down to every individual to decide 'Do I spend the money or not to go anywhere to watch anything?'
"If you want to go to a concert tomorrow, you look at the price of a ticket and after if it is too high for you, you say yes or no. That is everybody's individual responsibility."
Arsenal have yet to bring a trophy to the Emirates Stadium, with many supporters bemoaning the lack of consistency and seeing key men sold.
Wenger defended the club when asked whether the Gunners continued to offer value for money, with their season tickets among the most expensive in the top flight.
He said: "How can you measure that? What is very important is that we try to give value for money and that our attitude is absolutely 100% committed to try and achieve that. That is the most important.
"After, everybody can have a different opinion when he comes out of the stadium. Did he get enough for what he has spent? You have to leave that to every individual.
"The only way you can measure that is do people come back or not."

But why should Wenger retire if he still has the hunger for it, I know this last few years has not been the best at all, We just happened to shoulder ourselves with debt the same time as the Russia and the Far East took an interest in the prem, We were doing pretty well up until then

I've always thought myself that Wenger hates the transfer side of it and thats where Dein came into it , Wenger just gave him a type of player he wanted Dein went and got him that was my understanding anyway we're lacking in that department if you ask me

This and this are the main problems with Arsenal and Wenger and sums it all up really, its a sad state of affairs.

He wont buy average players he should look back over a lot of his transfer dealings over the last couple of seasons, hes not only bought average but below average players in the likes of Santos and Gervinho and moan about buget all you want, Chelsea just picked up Ba for a fraction of the price more than we paid for Gervinho, Swansea have Michu who has beeen the signing of the season theres quality out there we just seem to be looking in the wrong places and not fixing the glaringly obvious problems we have to everyone bar Wenger and the board.

As for this he sounds like a politician, member of the board not the incredibly highly paid manager that he is and avoiding answering the real question that was put to him which is can Arsenal justify having the dearest ticket prices when we are no longer even challenging. Joke really.

But why should Wenger retire if he still has the hunger for it.

If he still has the hunger then of course he can go on, but I dont expect him to. Ideally, the manager would sign a 3 year deal for example and while Wenger could leave it after 1 or 2, the way the man is and the loyality he shows contracts, it would be 3 years or nothing I think.

    Geoff Arsenal ‏@GeoffArsenal

Theo Walcott has agreed a new contract at Arsenal. Will be announced to the press and signed at the same time. #WithBells&Whistles

Seems few people are running with it. Hope it's true, need to get this saga over with.

For once I have a feeling its true, dont usually get too many rumours like that when our players are actually heading out the door.

With the massive agent fee included they cost the same amount, even without it you'd hardly describe it as a 'fraction of the amount', well not in the way the term is used in football anyway.

Also thought Geoff's tweet was sarcastic.

With the agent fee included Ba is thought to have cost 12million Gevinho is thought to have cost 11 million therefore Ba was a only tad bit dearer a million is nothing in football terms, which what i was getting at I just worded it badly :o.

Agreed, no excuses. The quality is not always there in the January transfer market and Wenger would reluctantly buy anyway.

Walcott to sign, Wenger to hail it as "like a new signing".

Fair play to Walcott if he does sign, I had thought all along that he was trying to manufacture a bosman transfer for himself. Still though, can't say I'm all that excited at the prospect of him being our highest paid player. He's not exactly first name on the teamsheet material...
