Has the style of music changed lately? Seems to be lot less 50s and 60s stuff and a lot more 70s and 80s in the last few weeks.

'The greatest hits of all time' - same tag line as Capital Gold....

A lot of talk recently about many of the 'Gold' stations dropping 60s music from the playlist and playing mostly 70s and 80s and a sprinkling of 90s.

Listening to RTE Gold on UPC and the audio is very poor - compression is all over the place.

Well the Gold stations would want to monitor their 90s output - most of the late decade was awful.

I remember Larry in the 80s playing stuff from a few years previous in the golden hour. Like what he is back doing now unfortunately.

It's used by many "Gold" stations around the globe. The audio output on Saorview is quite good. It's only 96kps on TuneIn I'm sure it's set higher on the RTE Radio player

The audio on saorview is less than FM quality.

The 50s/60s stuff is still being played, maybe not in the peak hours as before.

    Tonight played were:
Michael Franks - When Sly calls.... followed by Anita Baker - Rapture....followed by Lauren Wood - Fallen.

The GOLD playlist keeps getting better!

RTE Gold is the only station I can think of that is broadcast from the same studios/radio centre where many of these songs were first played years ago...I suppose RTE Radio 1 also?.

Maybe that's my anorak mind working overtime!

I am 50 miles from the transmitter and at night I can completely null out RTE and hear only Algeria. Turn the radio the other way and no trace of Algeria. I won't ask where you are, but what radio are you listening on?

Is there a better station for variety than Gold? I've tried Nova and have realised that there's quite a bit of repetition with the songs. Now when you listen to Gold for long enough you even begin to realise that there are certain songs they keep going to. Still though, I can't think of a better station for variety. Unless Late Date with Cathal Murray doesn't happen to be on, or maybe Tom Dunne, then it's always Gold that I'll go to.

For example I've heard them play 'Free Bird' by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Now to play a song as good as that on live radio must take balls.

The new jingles has made their sound a bit better for people who listen all day long but still needs to be less repetitive with promos. Be more like Globals Uk gold station which is automated 20 hours a day but doesn't feel like it's unattended because they have very slick jingles and imaging.

will be interesting to hear the Top 100 Beatles tomorrow both as a group and solo songs, not sure I can do 6 hours solid of it though. As it's Beatles and the songs are short it won't run as long as a normal Top 100 would

Gold has huge potential but it is treated by RTÉ as a secret - It has some excellent shows especially the Bank Holiday Specials today The Beatles, a top Breafast show and the 70’s special on Saturdays.....
