And the identity of it's non-christian designer, though Paddy is politic-enough at this moment not to refer to that fact, mention is enough, while Paddy slip's the marriage and abortion issues into the issue of adoption that Philomena was addressing, linking her to both. Sleeveen politics on the triple.

The good thing is he doesn't get away with it,
Numerous other users on thejournal.ie are quick to call him out on the fact he's linked to catholic comment, so he doesn't get to say these things without damaging the image of the organization he's linked to.

The more comments he makes the more damage it does to the image of the catholic church, its a win win I suppose

Read the thread, his postings are disgusting. Frankly it says a lot about the rcc and their propogandists that they are not embarrased by his blatant homophobia and misogyny and that they keep him on as a mouthpiece.

This needs to be watched: http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2014/09/07/watch-homophobe-lost-for-words-when-interviewer-brings-up-anti-gay-tweets/

One of the most downright unsettling interviews I've seen. Seriously, watch the whole thing, it gets worse towards the end

What a strange interview. Its almost as if he's admitted that his attitude is undefensible before the cameras even started rolling. I mean if you have an opinion and you are offered the platform to expand on it then why don't you. If you don't want to then just decline the interview. Bizarre stuff altogether.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,547 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

I liked the way he was eventually made to admit he stood by his tweets, despite trying to dodge accepting them as being opinion-pieces. The U.S. 5th amendment came to mind with "I reserve the right to form an opinion", laughable "I reserve the right to reserve the right to form an opinion". He's probably hoping the interview will end so he can run and delete his tweets. He probably will regret his last word's "I'm done".

Bill Donoghue, the heavily overweight president of the Catholic League, is worried that gay men who've been invited to take part in next year's Paddy's Day Parade might not be able to keep their pants on and may start masturbating in public:

Well, seeing as St Patrick's Day parades are as dull as f**k and twice as twee, it can only make them slightly more interesting. I'm all for alfresco Gay ****.

Now, now. If it weren't for people like him constantly worrying about what The Gays might be getting up to and making sure they're watched closely, we'd all wake up one morning to find gays in Paddy's Day parades and marrying one another or some other mad thing guaranteed to bring about the end of civilisation as we know it!

Another super-uplifting story to start the week:
Iowa couple marries after 72 years together

DAVENPORT, Iowa — More than seven decades after beginning their relationship, Vivian Boyack and Alice “Nonie” Dubes have gotten married.

Boyack, 91, and Dubes, 90, sat next to each other during Saturday’s ceremony, reports the Quad City Times.

“This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago,” the Rev. Linda Hunsaker told the small group of close friends and family who attended.

The women met in their hometown of Yale, Iowa, while growing up. Then they moved to Davenport in 1947 where Boyack taught school and Dubes did payroll work.

Dubes said the two have enjoyed their life together and over the years they have traveled to all 50 states, all the provinces of Canada, and to England twice.

“We’ve had a good time,” Dubes said.

Boyack said it takes a lot of love and work to keep a relationship going for 72 years.

Longtime friend Jerry Yeast, 73, said he got to know the couple when he worked in their yard as a teenager.

“I’ve known these two women all my life, and I can tell you, they are special,” Yeast said.

Iowa legalized same-sex marriage in 2009. The two women say it’s never too late for a new chapter in life.

I'd say that Bills mind, if made into gay porn, would probably be too extreme for most tastes, and have to go into a special section. Not that that's weird for a straight mans mind at all, in any way.

Yesterday, organizers of the world's oldest and largest St. Patrick's Day parade announced they were lifting their quarter-century ban on gay groups marching in the event.

"The question is, ‘Will the gays behave?’ Gays have been known to take their clothes off in the parade," Donohue told Signorile. "They can’t keep their pants on sometimes when they march in the gay pride parade.”

Do gay people just run in and strip?

    Yes.

As we all also cross dress this is not as easy as it sounds.
Fasteners in unfamiliar places and all that...

The Bishop of Galway appears to have rowed back on his strong stance on the St Vincent de Paul (SVP) donation towards a gay resource centre, telling a member of the public that he “got it badly wrong”.

There have been calls for Dr Martin Drennan to resign in the wake of his comments on Galway Bay FM last week about the €45,000 allocation to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community support group Amach.

He described gay culture as “morally wrong” and said he had a problem with the “moral judgment” involved with making the decision by the SVP.

Salthill resident Cormac Ryan wrote an email to the Bishop after hearing the interview, describing his remarks as “deeply offensive, uncharitable and unchristian”.

A reply the following day from the Diocesan email address, which was also sent to the Bishop’s Diocesan secretary, thanked him for the letter.

“My humble apologies for the hurt caused. I got it badly wrong,” it said.

Vice chairperson of Amach, Nuala Ward, invited the Bishop to sit down and talk with the organisation to discuss their work, which involved collaborating with bodies such as the Health Service Executive, the Gardaí and suicide prevention groups.

Also has some Ronan Mullen tweets/article on the SVP situation. It's somewhat ironic that Mullen who frequently calls for calm and reasoned debate regarding same-sex marriage (e.g. don't label people homophobes) doesn't feel the need to do the same regarding abortion. He calls pro-choice march a "pro-abortion" march. Not aware of any march that has ever had placards stating "yay for abortion!"

Bill Donoghue has thrown his ice-cream onto the ground and stomped off in a huff to the music of the world's smallest violin:

I guess the rule-book no longer satisfies Bill, where the application time-limit rule applies. And Ronan, The senator was commenting on SVP’s decision to approve a grant of €45,000 from the Maureen O’Connell Fund to be given to the group AMACH! LGBT. The decision was branded as “unwise” by Mullen.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie the senator reiterated his views on the issue:
I think the point I was making there was that people trust St Vincent de Paul to go straight to the point of pain.
And to go straight to the controversial donation, let’s admit it – it detracts from the brand of St Vincent de Paul. It would be wiser in future to stay away from this type of donation.

On the work being conducted by AMACH! LGBT Mullen said, “My view is about whether donations should be made. They are a highly politicised group and they have been helping to promote the pro-abortion cause, that is all I’m going to say about it.” Coming from him, that's some neck. Maybe that explains the photo with the Journal.ie article.
