I picked the first option, because I only drink once or twice a month, which works out at less than one drink per day.

I don't drink that much.. May once a month if even.. alcohol makes me depressed so I try not to indulge in it...

I generally don't drink on worknights. I'd normally have a few drinks over a weekend, either a bottle of wine if we stay in or a couple of vodkas if I'm out. To be honest I just can't stand losing an entire day to a hangover, so tend not to get hammered very often.

    Between 50-75ml C2H4O per day.

Not true, if you NEED to drink every day then you probably have issues.

I drink most days but normally no more than a couple of beers or a glass or 2 of wine. If I'm out it might be 4 or 5 or 6 but last night I had nothing, the previous night I had a beer & 2 glasses of wine with dinner, tonight I'm out again so it'll be something similar. Everything in moderation

It's still not good for you. Justify your functioning alcoholism however you need to though.

Bollocks, I was at a AA meeting last night and I don't NEED to drink every day!

I'll drink 2 x 355ml bottles of ale during the week after work & 12 x 355ml bottles of a weekend, usually high ABV stuff ranging from 5.9% - 10%

What's up with this thread? Usually AH is all "if you don't drink, you're a killjoy"...

I'd drink less than once a month.

    It depends really.

Usually one or two pints a night, maybe glasses of wine instead. Then sort of 8-12 pints on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

I drink maybe three or four days a week.

If I'm working the next day, the most I'll have is five or six.

There is the odd time when I'm talked into more but I rarely get really messy drunk if I'm working the next day.

At the weekends, I usually get hammered at least once, usually twice.

I have had about 30 bottles of bud this week, all at home. I normally wont drink for months on end but sometimes have a little binge for a couple of weeks. When I binge I will drink from late morning to evening.

Wow five or six seems like a lot if you are working the next day...I know some people can handle their drink better than others but that's a lot in terms of units.
If you wanted to, do you think you'd be able to just not drink for a while? (same questions applies to everyone else who said they have a few drinks every day)
I know someone mentioned there's a difference between wanting to drink and needing to drink, but I honestly think in Ireland in particular where it's such a common thing, that there's a very fine line in between the two.

Isn't it true that drinking a glass or two every day is far better for you than staying dry for the week and going on the serious sauce at weekends?
They told us eggs were bad for us ,then reversed that decision and said they were good and how many others things are bad for us this week but not the next ? Common sense will tell you that everything is moderation is ok but over indulgence isn't and we don't need some ' expert ' to tell us that .

I don't drink a whole lot. I can go weeks without having a drink. I'd much rather relax with a Coke or Pepsi in front of the tv than a beer or a glass of wine.

As it is, I haven't had a drink since Monday night, nor have I felt the need to.

I'm living in Brazil at the moment and the attitude towards drinking here is totally different. I know dozens of people who drink several times during the week, start about eight in the evening and head home about one and up for work the next day about eight.

Drinking regularly isn't seen as a bad thing. As you pointed out, there's a difference between the mentality of someone who wants a drink and someone who needs a drink. In my experience, it's the latter who have serious problems with drink. That said, that doesn't mean the former won't or can't develop a problem with drink.

Wow, I seriously couldn't make it into work if I was doing that! Do they just drink to socialise or is it to relax after work?
I'm told a lot of people have a few glasses of wine after work because it helps them relax, but it gets to the stage where I don't think they even know the difference between wanting it or needing it....it becomes a habit that's rarely broken.

I generally don't drink alcohol during the week at all, and sometimes not at the weekend either.

Think it's a mix of both, though now that I think more about it, they all work in stressful jobs (lawyers, bankers, stockbrokers) so it could be more to do with the relaxing part.

okie dokie, I would argue the toss but it's 10 past wine time :D

Maybe it's just me, but the drinking a couple of pints a day to 'help you relax' always seems a little odd. I go home, I relax, I don't see why I'd need any 'help' doing it.

I'd say on average though I'd drink once every few weeks. Most of that would be grabbing a pint when I feel like Sunday lunch down the pub, though every so often it'd be 5-6 on a night out.

Yeah that's my view on it too, maybe for some people it's just an excuse lol.

It depends on the day as I wouldn't drink consistantly everyday, its usually in phases depending on whats going on and how busy work is for me and the other lads.

I would drink nearly every saturday night and a lot of thursday and friday nights. Usually a sinkfull probably 8 to 10 pints/cans followed by vodkas, jager bombs etc. Might go for "one or two" (which means 5 or 6) earlier in the week sometimes. To be honest anything from 6 pints or less would be a quiet drink to me and my crew.

Then you have spells like during the European championships I think I had a minumum of 5 cans/pints per day for about 11 days in a row, usually a lot more than 5 though and plenty of shots etc some of the nights too. Then there are weeks like last week and up until tomorrow evening where I haven't drank at all as I'm saving money for race week in galway. Though I have a massive thirst now so there will be a large quantity drank tomorrow night :D

    Interesting thread!

My mates and I meet up on a Wednesday night for about 3 or 4 pints, this is a social chat for about 3 hours to catch up with everyone and debate the problems of the world! Over the year, we probably miss about 4 Wednesday beers due to other commitments etc. It breaks up the week nicely.

Then at the weekend, I usually have one or two beers on a Friday night, but can be more if there is a party on. Or none if I'm up early on Saturday. Then nearly every Saturday night, I have a few drinks at home with my friends or partner and then usually head to the pub. Normally I would have about 6 pints, but can be more if we go into town, probably pushing it up to 8 beers and maybe a short, usually whiskey. But that would maybe happen once a month.

Generally ok the next day after 6 pints, but any more can be a bit of a struggle.

Never have a drink on my own, purely as a social thing with all my friends, who drink a similar amount. So on average about 12 pints / 500ml per week.

Never have felt the need/want to have a drink to relax after work. Thankfully not mad into wine, which seems to be the main culprit!

    I drink very rarely.

I think its about six months since I last had a glass of wine but it could be more.

I chose 1-2 drinks a day. But the truth is it's about 3-4 a week. And I only go out once or twice a month. I'll generally have a whiskey a few times a week in the evenings after work. Normally when I'm watching something or playing xbox. Occasionally I'll have two or three in an evening.
It means I get just over a month, say about 5 weeks, from a bottle.

It's nice to have a whiskey or glass of wine every so often. I do love having one on monday morning/afternoon (I don't work mondays) there's something nice about having a drink when everyone else is at work. :D But i always stop at one because I don't want to have the whole day disappear in a drink filled haze.
