An embarrassment alright, Sean Barrett is annoyed with RTÉ/Saorview for not offering the Oireachtas Channel free carriage on DTT. He doesn't appear to realise he chairs the House that enacted the legislation and that can change it too.

You mean being given the reponsibitlies to run Oireachtas TV using the resources at your disposal and then expecting somebody else to pay for it out of their own budget.

There needs to be repeat oral PQs in push the matter home. The Department that invariably ends up with these questions needs to spell out whose responsibility it is to pay!

Back on topic .... continued from page 1

RTÉ and 2RN have published revised Wholesale Access Reference Offers for their respective markets

    Market A Transmission Services (2RN) - http://www.2rn.ie/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/2RN-Wholesale-Access-Reference-Offer-04-Feb-20141.pdf
    Market B Multiplexing Services (RTÉ) - http://static.rasset.ie/documents/about/rte-saorview-wholesale-access-reference-offer-2nd-march-2014.pdf

Interim Multiplexing Tariff per channel (for 2013 and Q1 2014)
    - Standard Definition Television Service (2.4 Mbps) €963,278
    - High Definition Television Service (6.0 Mbps) €2,152,359

UTVI on Saorview may be SD only (p.62 of the RTÉ document)
The Service Provider currently estimates that:

 One new SD Content Transport Stream will emerge from the start of 2015.
 One new SD Content Transport Stream will emerge from the start of 2017.

Not a lot of difference in the cost of SD at 544 by 576 and 704 by 544. [edit - those numbers look wrong?]

HD appears to be a bit over twice the cost of SD. Perhaps TV3 could drop 3E and go HD for not much money.
