Join a gun club or get insurance it only 60 euro a year . If shooting with other be aware of you surroundings . And get out there and ask farmer permission for shooting .

    Enjoy

safety first you only get one chance, and enjoy it which should be easy as its the best past time in the world in my opinion.as for the shooting of the gun "point dont aim"and take your time with the shot.and when you shoot your first bird dont do any silly dances in the field like i did:D:D

You don't have to join a gun club
I wouldn't for my own reasons but insurance is a must not just for yourself but most farmers will not let you on their land without insurance
Never swing a gun around when out with others or on your own
    Obviously you should know safety
And most important enjoy it and best of luck

Also get into the habit of breaking you gun climbing over gates ditches etc and alway unload your gun before giving it to others

Any tips that goes with shooting as this is my first year shooting the shotgun.

    Safety, safety, and more safety.

Never point the gun at anything you're ready to fire.

Always treat your shotgun as if it is loaded.

Keep your finger off of the trigger until it needs to be there.

Pass on any shot with which you are not 100% comfortable.

If guns have not been a part of the family, then head out with some auld fellas and leave your gun at home.

Don't be in a hurry to shoot anything, ever.

Remember that this is a sport where "accidents" can be unforgiving.

"Accidents" in shooting are like plane crashes, they come in two flavors: (1) someone did something really dumb or (2) there was a trail of tragic errors that resulted in tragedy.

You should not have a problem if you: (a) keep the action open, (b) keep your finger off of the trigger, and (c) keep the gun pointed in to the ground.

Have fun, enjoy the sport, and enjoy the great outdoors.

As everyone says-SAFETY is without doubt the most important thing. Its great to see someone new getting into the sport but I would also recommed going out with somebody experienced as its easy for us to stick up hundreds of posts about what to do or not to do but you cant beat seeing how its actually done and then everything you read here will just fall into place. If you dont know anyone its worth putting up a post in the Swap/Meet section.
The best of luck to you

The way I see it is mess all you want on the way or in the car and have a laugh and chat but once you step onto that field with that gun switch on as the next time you mess could end up someone dead
Ya have a privelege to have been givin a licence in the first place so don't ruin it

As lads have said safety is always a first.
What I would also advise is ear protection, if you dont want to wear ear muffs get a set of moulded ear plugs. Shotguns will damage your hearing after a while and it aint no fun having a constant ringing in your ears or only picking up bits of conversations when in a group. We all spend vast money on foot wear, wet gear etc but trust me and many others here on the ear protection.

    Safety, Safety and Safety..........

You need to be paranoid about it....

Only shoot at something that has sky behind it.

A gem from my father about 40 years ago

" A loaded gun never killed anyone"

In other words if you always treat it as loaded (even if it isn't)then you won't go far wrong

I think NARGC insurance will insure your equipment for a bit extra. I know my standard NARGC cover doesn't anyway.

not sure about guns in general..but for rifle shooters, they do have scope cover..so id imagine they'd have shotgun cover too

Pull with the target and dont point at it..

Also even birds too far away pull with them and size up your lead.. the minute you get that to you you will knock most things in the sky..

Stick to one shotgun.. I have too and Im ****e on one because of it :mad:

The OP posted an advert in the for sale section, and asked for tips/hints on decoying.

As general chit chat is not allowed in the for sale section i split his post into two threads. One advertising his wanted ad for decoys, and the second i stated under his name in hunting asking for the tip, and hints.

So if there is any confusion as to his needs/request then it is down to me as i worded the title of the thread not the OP.

Now that that is settled can we get back on topic. Speaking of which i have removed all non topic related post. Mainly the discussion about the toe flap into it's own thread here. All posts about this should be posted there, an not here.
