    Sadly, male rape occurs much more often than we get to hear about. Those making jokes about it are asserting their masculinity, in a fashion - perhaps to show that it would never happen to them. Maybe it happened for "a reason"?

    Well, heads up, fellas - it happens to any of us, gay, straight, bi - whatever.

    I for one think the victim has been immensely brave.

    Only around 10% of people who rape women are ever convicted for it, and a hell of a lot less so for men.

    In an age where male and females are insulted, victim blamed and just plain slagged off over being raped, it's difficult enough for a female rape victim to report what happened to her (from my experience), let alone a male rape victim.

    The fact that he reported it is a huge testament to his character, and I sincerely hope the scumbag who did it gets punished accordingly.

    Doubt they'll find him. Rapists are often caught when they boast about what they did in a pub, can't see that happening here.

    They can be notoriously difficult to catch, yes, but if it happened outdoors, there's a small chance of CCTV. There is also the possibility of DNA evidence being used if the perpetrator is already on the DNA database.

    Horrible thing to happen to anyone. As a man it would never cross my mind that something like this could happen to me. When I used to be going out to nightclubs it would always be in my mind that a row could start and I could get beaten up but not sexually assualted.

    Seriously who has this thought process:

    "A man has been viciously raped, his life has probably been irreparably damaged and he and his family will take years getting over it. Sure that's mad funny I'll take the piss!"

    I know some comedians make jokes about rape but I have rarely heard them make jokes about specific cases like some are in this thread. I worry if people have these attitudes off the net as well? My thoughts are with the Man, he has been through more then most of us will ever know.

    That link (from 2003) says it's only 1-2% in Ireland, but AFAIK worldwide, it's around 7-10% depending on the country. I'll look for more stats later, I was reading it in a Rape Crisis Centre report a few weeks ago.

    I dunno, there was controversy recently when a comedian Daniel Tosh said 'rape is always funny', and then said (about a woman in the audience who objected) "wouldn't it be funny if 5 guys raped her right now"

    I was referring to AH specifically, but it's never funny, I'd be pretty appalled if I was at a comedy gig and that was the joke, and I'm not appalled easily.

    Kegzmc with all due consideration I don't think you understand what rape does to a person. It's not which gender/sex, it's about completely disrespecting another person at the utmost level you can just because you can, and that person is always left with that memory that another person cared about them so little to do that to them.
