Following from our discussion in the chat thread, lets go Ladies (and Gents)! How did you decide your name? Where did you get the idea/does it mean something to you?

Mine is the names of my two Guinea Pigs, simples :)

Surprisingly I don't have a boney arse. It's a line taken from the Butcher Boy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭Ilyana

Mine is basically my name, shortened. Not very secure but there you go! Ireland is very small, I'll probably be figured out eventually!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,401 ✭✭✭✭x Purple Pawprints x

boney: I've seen The Butcher Boy twice or three times and I don't get that reference.. :o

Anyways, my username isn't that clever. My first name is actually Jane, I'm from Laois (LS) and I was born in '88. I picked it when I joined back in 2006 and I was only 17-18 at the time. I wish I'd been more imaginative.

Copied/pasted from the chat thread. :o

My first name (Purple Bobbin) I came up with because I used a purple bobbin to tie up my hair! :pac:

The Lovely Muffin is because when I make buns they turn out like muffins, and they're lovely! :pac:

I love the pixies and I love nirvana (Frances Bean).

I've had my boards account since I was 13. I quite liked the Mr Men and Little Miss Books, and am quite short, and the princess thing seemed to be a theme at the time...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,649 ✭✭✭Catari Jaguar

Wore a pink & black leopard print top to school and one of the kids told me I look like a jaguar, it just sounded funny cos he's Chinese and speaks hardly any English. My boyf goes "Ah! I'm gonna call you Atari jaguar!" and my name is Cat so voila...

I picked it on a whim as the username I normally use on forums was taken :(

I can't remember, but I slightly regret choosing it.

Mines my middle name. Wish I had an exciting story to tell people :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Lia_lia

I have no idea...it was 8 1/2 years ago! Lia isn't my name at all. Maybe I was trying to make myself anonymous or something.

Always time to change it to something craaaaazy! :D

Mine is a name from the book, Ballet Shoes. There is a girl called Posy in it. :)

I wanted a short, female name (I had been on boards before with an ambiguous name and people thought I was a smelly boy!) and this was the first name in the list I considered that wasn't taken already by some fecker signing up and never posting! :p

First letter from each of my names, not very inventive :o

An over-inflated sense of personal wisdom, basically.

(What can I say, I'm still learning after all...)

Boyfriend says it a lot so just used it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Used to play Super Smash Bros a lot, in the GameCube version (Super Smash Bros Melee) the 6th event match is called Kirbys on Parade, and has the tagline "Look out! A rainbow of kirbys is after you!".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,390 ✭✭✭The Big Red Button

I honestly, really, don't know! I hadn't ever used any sites before Boards, so didn't have any regular username. I think I wanted Butterfly, but that was gone, so I thought Catterpillar, and added in the chat bit. I wish there was a more interesting story behind it. :o I'd change it to something cool, if I could think of a cool name!!

Off topic - is Flight Of The Conchords any good? From that clip it looks funny, have never seen any episodes it though!

It's really, really good. But I do think it's a very particular type of humour. Like, I became obsessed with it (to the point where a drunken meeting with Kristen Schaal was basically me telling her I loved her over and over) but some people don't like it.

[NERD]In science class years ago we were messing with element symbols in our names (were meant to be doing an experiment) and put lead into my name and it stuck!!

My dad used to call me IvyTheTerrible when I was small after the character from the Beano comic, because he thought I kinda looked like her and I was a bit bold too...

    I use the word whoopsadaisydoodles quite a lot when I drop something/make a mistake/trip etc. It's a happy word :D

I can't use it anywhere else though as it's too long :D

Spuddy is me nickname since about 5! Although I used to be called tayto as well, didn't like that one so much :-) I haven't a clue where me numbers came into it

Mine's the lead female character in the Clan of the Cave Bear series written by Jean Auel. Loved the books when I was a teen & it just stuck.

Mine is my first initial and surname. I would like to be able to change it to something a bit more anonymous but I think you have to have a paid subscription and I don't fancy spending €50 to change my username.

Maybe Mr Boards will allow me to change it for free to mark my 1000th post:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

It's actually €5 (one month's subscription) rather than €50 (one year's subscription) to change it ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭Dolbert

You can subscribe for around a fiver!

Mine's a spelling variation on my own name, meaning sad or sorrowful. I've no idea why I picked it as I'm not especially sad :pac: It does come in handy if I'm at a beers and I don't have to introduce myself as 'SpaceCat72' or something!

I'm a LOTR nerd so I wanted something a bit more unusual to the Arwen's and Galadriel's out there. I am fascinated with the Anglo Saxon influence on Tolkien and the sword naming culture of them so I decided to choose a sword name and Narsil was my favourite(both before and after being reforged to become Anduril)..........oh gosh I'd better stop:o

Glad you asked Coco and my big ol ball of fur dog Ghost sends a woof to you:p

I've suffered on and off from depression for years and the person I am when I'm down is a million miles away from the person I am when I'm feeling good so I have christened her my "eviltwin". I think I set my account up here on a bad day hence the name.

Mine came from a reference in this very odd cartoon...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,427 ✭✭✭Morag

from a scifi novel I love.

    http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AgainstADarkBackground
Sharrow, a cynical, emotionally scarred aristocrat who once led a personality-bonded combat squadron, is warned by her cousin that the cult who killed her mother when she was very young has obtained a Hunting Passport against her, a legal license to murder for a year and a day. There are only two ways out; survive the year, or return what her long-ago female ancestor stole from the cult: the last Lazy Gun, a whimsical weapon of destruction.

I started calling my husband Mr Magoo - and so he would sometimes refer to me as Mrs Magoo. I was going to go with that as my username but typed out it just looked so...middle-aged...and having spent a bit of time lurking around boards I didn't think advertising my gender right off the bat was a particularly wise idea. I'm also vertically challenged and decided Ickle went well with Magoo and had the added bonus of sounding vaguely Scottish...

Looking back, I wish I'd deliberated for longer than 12 seconds...

    It's a Smashing Pumpkins song - and I'm a big fan.
