Skinny Camps

I've always been fairly skinny, even to the point of having people say "You think you'd go and feed yourself" and at work in the canteen some of the ladies would describe me as "you know the guy that looks like he's always hungry" so...i thought to myself, this is really demoralising and inevitably making me feel less confident about myself...what can a man do?

I went to the doctor and he told me i have a fast metobolism and told me to get out and do some training/excercise.

So i head to the training centre and start lifting weights but alas the more experienced lifters are laughing at how I can't even lift my own weight.

What about Skinny camps? For people to put on weight like.

Don't mind them, just do you're own thing and mind yourself. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I'm the same, but just think, there are fat people who would kill to be in that situation

Ah people are being mean about your weight - what about diet? Lots of protein and good carbs.

Check out this program and look up GOMAD. It's like THE way for skinny guys like you to put on mass "quick".

I was the same as you with regards to the amount of weight you can lift in the gym. Just do your own thing and ignore everyone else.
Give it a go. I'm doing stronglifts 5x5 and it's great.

    EDIT: damn you arse biscuits

I was full sure the government must've started a "Kill A Child, Lose A Stone" incentive.
    Thanks for clearing that up.

GOMAD is really good. The best thing about your situation OP is that you can go on a dirty bulk.

Varies though. My friend is 33 and he has the same problem - and he loves his beer and white bread and does barely any exercise! Unusual though.

No, a couple of friends have gotten good results.

I'm on a CKD (cycling Keto) at the moment. Tomorrow = carb-up...Jesus Christ, I never thought the idea of porridge and plain pasta could be so pornographic.

Any of them experience the side effects from that much milk or is that all an over reaction?

Im a natty bodybuilder so I cant speak with first hand experience, but over the years I see lots of skinny manlets visibily bulking in no time with creatine. Just be sure to keep yourself well hydrated.

I find it funny how people are weary of something as uneventful as creatine. If you ever ate a steak, you've taken in creatine. The same with protein - all these supplements do is give the active person a lifeline when they can't get in enough real food. They're not meant to substitute real food when real food is available. Nevertheless thats exactly what they are, harmless food. None of them are going to add on 20lbs.

The supplement business is a multi-billion dollar unregulated industry - a bunch of snake oil sales people that will sell you hopes and dreams to anyone ignorant enough to buy into it. In my experience, the only thing that works are steroids. Plain and simple - have I ever taken them? No, but I know enough about prohormones to advise a virgin on a compound..nevertheless, I'm not condoning their use although they are given a bad rap in the media. Kind of like the boody-man that is marijuana....

Regardless, nothing can compensate for a diet and a training regime thats absolutely spot on. Actually, lifting is 10% of your goals....your diet and what you're putting inside your body is the 90%....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,933 ✭✭✭Logical Fallacy

OP, train hard and eat a lot. Try and train with someone who is more experienced and stronger than you. People can kid themselves about how hard they are working, and why they are not changing physically.

Noobs gains plus plenty of food would have you bulking up in no time.

Great post. I'm well aware of creatine and what it is and does. Sure your body makes it. I guess it's just the rep it gets. Have you used it? Found it helpful?

It's helpful to a point, it should aid in banging out a rep or two more before the point of exhaustion of the muscle.

The catch to creatine is that it will help those who can already train in a certain fashion and reach a certain threshold of effort. If you are truly and honestly giving you are all in the gym then yes, creatine will help you a bit. If not, then you are not going to get any help from it.

Add to this that any help from a supplement will be completely dependant on your training, food and rest cycles and I would say those are the places to truly concentrate effort.

Sure, I went through countless containers of the stuff and realised that the money I was giving Gaspari and Controlled Labs would be better spent in Tesco on the fresh meat isles. I've never looked back.

Some supps out there are great (majority are bogus) but once the proof of their results come out, they get discontinued...a bit "too" good...if you know what I mean. :pac:
I'm taking TetradecylThioacetic Acid at the 'mo for weight loss. It's great thus you can't find the stuff anymore - I went through hell and high water trying to trace down a few bottles for safe keeping...but this is just one example...

Some other supps contained DHEA and worked unbelievable. When the pharmaceutical companies seen this working, they asked their good friends in Congress to ban it and thus it became a prescription drug - I still have loads of bottles of the stuff at home. So there are good products out there, just a case of looking through the dirt to find that gem.

Thanks guys. Yeah I reckon with regards to creatine it might be better to just concentrate on diet. What about Glutamine? I've read that people recommend it more than they would creatine?

No I dont use any kind of supps. My uncle got me into bodybuilding years and years ago and he drilled it into me that "real men dont need to take powders and pills" so I guess I did everything the long and hard way.

For me Im very happy with my body stats and I have been able to maintain it for all these years with a sensible diet. Im not opposed to creatine, I just dont need it for myself. I only recommended it to the OP because I see people using it and getting fast results.

Glutamine will give no muscle gains. It's good if you suffer from leaky gut.

    Supplements that work:

Whey, creatine, beta alanine, fish oil and dextrose.

Get a multi vitamin and a bottle of fish oil Omega 3,6,9 - never underestimate the power of the simple things. Plenty of water, plenty of sleep and at least a gram of protein for every lbs of LBM you have.

Creatine and protein as well as everything else not considered an anabolic steroid is "natural". Consider the latest craze, Jack3d - a pre workout product that was all the rave. It came out there is an ingredient with a similar profile to MDMA in it. It's off the shelves. Are the millions of people that took it now "unnatural"? The whole "natural" thing is a roundabout...

Anyone that's "natural" today, won't be tomorrow....

Nobodies "natural". Always remember that. ;)

Haha yeah I know. That's why I "" the natural. Sure I know our body even makes creatine. I just meant lack of supplement way. Although I do take protein shakes.

Where I'm staying now in college, my eating is pretty much set out by the canteen as I get 7 pound a day allowance. So It's hard to get a lot of meats.

    This programme might help too.

Eat loads, lift heavy, and get plenty of sleep.

Hmmm maybe this should be moved to fitness forum???

Anywho, OP if your happy the way you look they **** what others think. Anytime you hear that **** tell the how you love to eat take out and drink gallons of coke and not put on a pound, sur isn't it great. : )

If you actually want to put on some weight then go for it, just make sure and not take anything that might make you sick just to put on a few pounds.

I like the look of that GOMAD plan but you'd wanna love milk!

    Good luck

Well remember it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. You're in this for the long haul so don't expect results overnight. It takes years of dedication. If there's one thing I regret was not sticking to it when I was 16. I fell off the wagon more than once and looking back now I say to myself look where I could be now had I never fallen off. Good luck.

Ingesting excessive amounts of creatine or protein, or anything for that matter, is definitely not good for you. Excessive amounts of protein, for example, will eventually lead to kidney failure. It's actually pretty common among men who take those powdered 'supplements' over long periods of time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

Is the program on show really worth a look in?

I for one think it is. I'm sure many can agree. Download his free book and have a read through it. Even at some of the success stories.
