    That's silly.
Turning eggs upside down once a week keeps eggs staying fresh for months.
    Either way, it's a bargain

All well and good doing it when you bring them home but do you reckon they were turned even once in the time between packing and you buying

No. But they are still fresh, so I can start doing it now!

I guessed maybe they use them in their own bakery.

I believe that would be against FSAI rules, as would using them in the cafe - meant to be separation of product for retail and food service sections of dual-purpose businesses.

Agreed, I usually buy big packs and put most in the fridge, and some out I am going to use soon. I have used them well past the BB date, well over a month. I just do exactly what anybody in the did before BB dates, or people getting them now from sources with no dates (e.g. friends & neighbours with chickens), if in doubt crack it and smell/check it and put it into a cup before adding to a mixture.

This was just a guess, as otherwise I would expect to have seen them being sold off cheaply. And I would not be sure about it being against the rules, as they are still very much in date.

I knew a guy who worked in the deli of a supermarket and chickens approaching the use by went in the rotisserie, that's 20 years ago though.

Its nothing to do with dates, its an arcane requirement about keeping stock separate. In theory a newsagents shouldn't be filling the coffee machine with milk from the customer fridges, etc.

It then dawned on me that I didn't recall ever seeing eggs on sale in tesco in the section where they are near the use by or BB date.

I did buy eggs on sale in Tesco before on a few occasions. Once I think about five 6's for less then 2 euro, it was egg feast :pac:

Spotted some good €1.49 blurays in Cork city Dealz, probably in other stores too. Die Hard 1 and Cyrus (John C Reilly/Jonah Hill) were the two I spotted. Also Transformers.

Colgate total protection toothpaste were 2 packs for €1.49 which seemed great too

    Warning

They are selling a HDMI to VGA cable. I got one on the off-chance it wasn't what I thought it was.

It this only works with certain video cards, ones that you don't have.

Why would you need one in the first place ?
If you run out of HDMI ports on your TV you could use VGA+Audio and still get the same resolution.

You can buy HDMI to VGA converters with electronics in them for about €8 from China, just check that they have audio output if you need it, handy for old TV's.

    HDMI splitter?

    HDMI splitter?
That's a different beast altogether thanks to copyright protection built in. - DRM sucks

the cheap Chinese "splitters" allow you to plug in two output cables but you can only power up one at a time

I would guess its the ones full of white granules of calcium chloride. In the US its called damprid if you want to search it, or search calcium chloride.

It certainly does work, its more for taking damp out of walls or in cupboards. Its supposed to be single use too. It can however be reused if you boil the moisture off which it absorbed.

I had an old wok with no handle and I used it as the container. As the wok is wide it has surface area to boil off the absorbed water easily, it also has area to reabsorb moisture. So it is just left in the wok all the time.

If you were getting for a room all year round an electric one which is easily dumped would be better in the long run. Boiling the stuff can be messy.

they certainly extract water from the air, what impact they have on overall humidity I don't know. As the granules absorb the water they eventually dissolve so you're just left with a container of opaque liquid, which you then throw out.

This is a higher spec reusable version of the same idea:

The unibond aero 360 is using calcium chloride too (the safety data sheet reveals this, the advertising made me think it was some other mechanism doing it). It seems to me its just a nicer and cleaner looking version of the other ones. When the crystals are full of liquid they over saturate and it looks like a pool of water. I imagine the unibond one just has the crystals suspended and water drips off into the collection thing below.

The negative reviews say the replacement tablets it needs are expensive.

I have an older TV which only has/had 1 HDMI port. I still want to plug a HDMI lead in somewhere/somehow, would this do the job somehow?

There are HDMI splitter things. So you have a lead going into the tv with a box on the end with 2+ sockets to plug your cables into. I think some have their own remotes, otherwise you have to physically switch the box, but its far more accessible than trying to put the cable in each time.

If you are trying to connect HDMI to scart or vga/component inputs on the tv I would expect a big drop in quality vs going to the proper HDMI socket, unless it was a very expensive one.

In an enclosed space with low level of airchange like a rarely opened cupboard, caravan in winter, wardrobe etc. it can be effective.

In an occupied area of a house it will have a completely negligible effect. An average person asleep produces 300ml of water through breathing in 8 hours.

A four or five person household produces 10-15l per day through breathing, cooking, cleaning, bathing, dish washing and clothes washing. 1

300g sounds like a good size. A full tin is too much for me, and the half is too small.

Tesco have several heinz ones on offer right now, but dealz is still by far the cheapest per kilo.

If you only have one HDMI then there are cheap and nasty switches

or if you have a VGA input then try HDMI to VGA and Audio - YMMV
