It's more a case of the character: While Lena Headey is a very good-looking woman (she was stunning in 300), Cersei Lannister is regarded as far and away the most beautiful noblewoman in Westeros (her ageing beauty contrasted with Sansa and Maergary blossoming youth is something of a theme for her character) and I just don't see Lena Headey as the most beautiful woman on the show.

She's playing the character well and she's a beautiful woman but she's just not the most gorgeous woman for miles around we read about in the books.

It's nit-picky as hell I know, just something that slightly irks me...

    James Purefoy as Mance perhaps.

Not "runty" enough for my liking. I always pictured him as more of a Steven Mackintosh.

Ah but Cersi Was the most beautiful woman in westeros, many years ago, age and childbirth have taken their toll consider the last few chapters of AdWD

I am. She doesn't look like a slightly aged beauty... my impression of Cersei in the books is
of a woman in her late twenties / early thirties who, while dressed, would still be more beautiful than the younger girls and it's only when she's stripped and paraded through the streets that the scars of childbirth are visible that her age/motherhood shows.

I'm thinking a Scarlett Johansen / Charlize Theron who's had children but stayed in decent shape bar a few stretch marks etc.

Henry Ian Cusik (Desmond from Lost) is the bookies favorite to play Mance Rayder according to the internets...

He'd be an excellent Mance but he's already a series regular on another TV show, so not too sure how scheduling will work for him on that regard

For some reason I always pictured someone like Gerard Butler as Mance.

Definitely love the idea of Maggie Smith as the Queen of Thorns, she could totally stay in her Downton Abbey b!tch mode for it.

    Other people I'd cast:
    Mace Tyrell: Brendan Gleeson
    Red Viper: James Purefoy

I'm a bit annoyed that there's no word of Ramsay Bolton. I guess he's not in books 3 or 4 but they are hardly going to
keep Theon offscreen for the next few seasons are they?

I can't see him as Mance at all....

Someone a wee bit older is needed me thinks, I suppose you could make him look older, but I still can't picture him as Mance. :(

    Me neither.
I can see him as the Red Viper, but not Mance.
Someone else suggested Robert Carlyle as Mance and I'd have to agree.
He's smaller than Mance is described, but I reckon he could do a great job.
    Either him or Dominic West.

Red Viper is Richard Armitage for me.

I doubt we'd see that happen though.

I think Armitage would make a better Victarion tbh.

I pictures Oberyn 'The Red Viper' as a slighlty younger Antonia Banderas.

After reading a stormm of swords the third/fourth season will be amazing no doubt.

A third through a feast for crows and it's a tad boring. I dont know how the show will introduce new characters and then turn it into something similair to 'Tonight with Vincent Brown' though some of the Arianne Martell scenes will be interesting hopefully without the Dornish history lessons.

Ive been reading the books very fast so storm of swords a bit of a blur. Is it correct to say not much happened in the first book but then sh*t seriously hits the fan in the second?
reckon they'll end series three with the red wedding or would that be too far into the second book?

    New season 3 Casting:

Mackenzie Crook (BBC’s The Office) as “skinchanging” wildling raider Orell

Sigh. Vargo Hoat walks into the casting offices and they give him a role of a random wilding with about 10 lines.

No way Mackenzie Crook is physically imposing enough to carry off Hoat imo.

I'm still laughing at Thoros of Myr being played by Dennis Pennis!

    Meera is Hawt

    Is he not playing Orell?

    Is he not playing Orell?

Yeah he is. I imagine for the purposes of the TV show Orell and Varamyr Sixskins will be merged. They won't have cast and announced him for the tiny part that Orell plays in the books.

Diana Rigg playing Olenna Tyrell (Queen of Thorns), really looking forward to seeing how she does in that role.

That's a lot of characters they are introducing. With already large cast and only 10 episodes per season, some characters will be lucky to get 10-15 mins screen time in Series 3.

I'd just be worried that with so many characters, the whole thing might just sink under its own weight. For the non book readers, I'd imagine it will get very confusing.

Going by the books none of the those (apart from the Reeds) characters will have much screen time compared to main characters from season 1 & 2. They might flesh some of them out like they did with Tywin Lannister though I suppose. They're also leaving out quite a few characters so far too.

I think they're doing a good job of juggling so many characters so far and HBO are well used to shows dealing with huge amounts of different characters. I don't think GoT has gotten anywhere near as complex as The Wire yet for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭Son0vagun

I think the Brotherhood WithOut Banners are gonna have plenty of screen time next season. They got plenty of mentions in season two and they've been set up nicely!

The Reeds will feature a lot too. And I'm sure Stannis story arch will heavily feature his wife and daughter!

But there will be a danger of further diviations and the story been swamped under with too many different stories! Hopefully D&D will have learnt from
Their failings on season two. It's also encouraging that book three is going to be spilt into two seasons, wise move IMO.
