Picked up a few bits from game and gamestop here in Spain. Ill post when I get back but one thing I will say is that new games are shockingly expensive. Between €60 and €70 for current 360 and PS3 games. PS2 games are still popular though with strong pre-owned sections in both game and gamestop. Spotted nothing worthwhile though.

Hmm, interesting about the strength of the ps2 market over there......
    wait a minute!
A well parsed post from Atavan on his Holidays?
Who are you and how did you hack his account?
    Is he okay?
We'll need proof of life before paying any ransom!
Just give us time to put the €26.70 together, that's kind of our spending limit right now, sorry...

Just called into the Balbriggan market where there was little other than a number of stands selling common ps2 games as well as a larger stall with ex-xtravision stock.
I picked up Guilty Gear Isuka and Mirrors Edge, 7 all together.

Picked up a bit of 8 bit madness :) Really going to have to get an eeprom programmer now to make the most of these two beauties..

Ah, do tell what you would do with them and an programmer?

    Both have cartridge slots.

The Amstrad has no onboard ROM so has to boot from an external cart which Amstrad were kind enough to supply on eeprom rather than a rom so that needs to get upgraded. There is a load of designs for external ROM boards online to further expand it.
And the built-in 3" floppy is next to impossible to get spares for :) Might add an external 3.5" at some stage though.

The Atari takes any of the game carts for the XL series as well and plenty of cartridge pcb design online as well. I don't think I could go back to tape loading again :)

You can get a floppy emulator for that amstrad. Same one I have in the Amiga (hxc floppy emulator).

Yep that's the plan as well, the same HxC should work with the Amstrad/Atari ST and Amiga (when I find a clean one) just a matter of changing SD Card.

Hoping to keep it external so I can easily move it between platforms and keep the computers fairly stock.

The GX4000 uses the same carts as the 6128+ so planning on making up a few carts for it besides the atrocious "Burn'n rubber", there is a method I believe for translating Amstard disk and tape images to eeprom so want to experiment with that if I can.

    Woo hoo!
I got Super Mario RPG this morning!
The sun seems to shining that bit brighter now, the birds whistling a merry tune. ..

    What's that?
A dark cloud occluding the pleasant rays.
And one of the birds has just shat on my shoulder,
it can only be that Streets of Rage 2 was delivered as well!!!

Theres a PC interface for the Atari 8 bits called Sio2pc (and a newer one called sio2USB) that will let you load disk images straight from a connected PC (the pc runs a DiskDrive emu and you virtually 'load' disks).Works pretty well (waaay better than the C64 XE1541 cable).
Must get one of those Floppy Emulator's for my ST ;)

Sio2SD is the latest one for the Atari, man these old yokes are gonna cost me a fortune !!

This guy has a lot of good stuff for them.

Feck, bum, sh1te, w@nk stain MF!!!!!!!

The Super Mario RPG I now own?
    Not in english :(
    All in japanese :(

Muggins here bought on the strength of the auction photo of the cart, which is a US copy of Super Mario RPG, but had this genius read further down he would have noted the clear instruction that it is all in japanese, someone somewhere swapped out the innards and put the english board into a jap Mario RPG case and probably sold a japanese copy of the game to a mug like me.

    I have to say, I'm gutted :(

And I was also told I was diabetic today!

    But this upsets me more.....

Maybe I should get my priorities straight?

Still, to the sheep buggerer who swapped out the cart entrails, I hope your cock turns black and drops off.

And I shall be far more careful in future to read carefully the entire listing, including the description :(

Here's the listing by the way
    buggering b@stards!!!

Jeez man, sorry to hear about the news regarding the diabetes! Hope you're alright. No more of those feckin energy drinks!!!!

That was a sly move with the cart. I'd say someone saw a cheap Japanese import cart back in the day bought it, rented the English cart and swapped the PCBs hoping nobody would notice.

Don't know where that leaves you though as he mentioned Japanese in the auction :(

Personally I tend to go on auction pics & titles without reading the small print, so I'd have fallen for it myself.

Maybe send him off an email and see what happens.

Ugh, that's a kicker Cidey, on both counts.

One cheap method of fixing this is to buy a tsop adapter & convert the cart to the English version, ala Mother 2. I know you wanted an original, but now you've a US shell with Jap innards, practically unsellable really. Spend another €15 or so on the adapter, throw a spare cart or two at me & I'll fit it for you, or even Kerb might do it

Yeah, I think I'll do that, the good had kind of gone out of it now, so I won't be buying another copy.
    Thanks.

Hey, I least I have Streets of Rage 2 to cheer me up!

Had a nice little parcel motel pickup today.

My first gaming retro pickup in about 2 months, time to get back on track with the Mega Drive :)

Ah, I see we are back in the niche Thumb Modelling game, just be careful, it's just a sidestep from the horrors of S&M thumb porn slavery....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭Shapey Fiend

I never understood why they bundle particular games together on those multicarts. Nobody has ever liked Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle. It's even got the ugliest boxart ever. Perhaps it's that Gunstar takes up most of the cart memory and they know they can jam Alex Kidd and Flicky in there on the remaining space.

Golden Axe has great music and looks lovely. Gameplay wise it's a bit flat but I think you can say that of most scrolling beat em ups. They were always more of a graphical showcase than very interesting games in of themselves.

The Legendary Starfy arrived today, for the DS.
It plays like a Kirby game, not a polished though.
Well, it's not for me, it's for my son so that's cool.
There's 3 other games in the series on the Gba it seems, filled with child friendly platforming action.
