    Nope. AKM is the only AR besides the L85 that can be zeroed. Fewest hits to kill of all ARs, greatest accurate range, very common, ammo abundant. The AKM is one of the best mid-tier guns you can get, only stuff like the SVD, AS50 and similar "high-tier" stuff surpasses it. I can sight, zero in on and one-shot man-sized targets from ~600m with the AKM's iron sights with ease. Easily one of the best, if not the best.

    Stats and Experience are two different things.

    Stats are consistent (objective), experience is inconsistent and differs from player to player (subjective). The AR15 rifles, from M4 to M16 all cannot be zeroed and hit softer. Statistically. If they work for you that's super, but it doesn't change the fact that the AKM does more and does it better. That's all I'm saying. I am currently playing with an M16A2 and have had an M4A1 CCO SD before, and I like them because they can (stupidly) take subsonic ammo which is inaudible to infected. But I always keep a couple of AKMs and ten or so mags in my camp as backup, because those things are the gold standard in this game.

    AKMs are great guns, great mid range stopping power, good long range. Only issue I have with them is they draw a big crowd due to the noise.

    AK74s are lower calibre and take more shots to kill, with the benefit being they are much quieter.

    Got an M4A3 CCP at the moment and it feels very much like an AKM, but the dot sight and the attached flashlight are great and the noise is moderate vs the AKMs loud.

    With all the MP5's you throw away as well, thats a big pile of guns. AKM for me.

    I've completely given up on the lee enfield. In my experience shooting a zombie with one creates far more problems than it solves.

    Wasn't alot I could do, was already on the ladder climbing down and was dead before I reached the bottom...
    If I had to have seen him before getting on ladder, I would have gave him a demonstration of the m249...lol

    Meanwhile, had a close call at the nwaf earlier...was checking a message on my phone while prone, moving from 1 stone wall to the next...all I hear is the whizz of the bullets fly by...couldn't get visual of the shooter...had me pinned down for a good while, decided to make a run for the hills, thankfully managed to survive...

    Did you know it was me at the time?
    I had to log off soon after, which is why I ran away.

    That was his first time dying, 52days alive, although he was offline for 50 of those lol...

    McGinnis said he shot somebody in the head near the barracks, just before he got killed, other player dc'd so he didn't get his 1st murder...he didn't know about getting the time of dc to report it..

    Like Macg said the only downside is the sound levels. Not going to play the "been playing longer than you" card, I've played a while and anyone worth their salt is going to use a sidearm in towns unless they have a suppressed weapon. The AKM is definitely a solid weapon, and offers a lot of options the M4/16 doesn't. I had to learn to use an M16/M4 for a while because they couldn't be zeroed - at 150m or so you have to aim at the feet to hit the head. The AKM you can just adjust and aim where you want to point of contact to be. What works for you works for you, obviously, but the AKM is not the be sneezed at. Throwing it away doesn't mean much with how common it is, but as a stand-by weapon there is nothing better.

    We knew it was you after we killed your Mc Ginnis friend.

    It wasn't any of us that disconnected on you, Ponster was killed down in the south barracks by SgtBob, and I think you killed Max?

    @Above, I'd pick it up over any side arm. But as soon as I find something any other assault rifle not in the ak family I'd swap it out in a heartbeat. The zeroing doesn't matter to me, I'm either going to get up close to shoot them or let them walk.

    Id love to know how all you lot seem to be flowing with weapons, i've ran around most of today with nothing. I found a shotgun once but it was during one of those moments when you're running away from a swarm so i didn't get to keep it for long.

    Ugh, 1.7.2 is annoying.

    Zombies will randomly spot you from a long way off, even if you're crouching and moving silently. Add the zombies spawning ontop of you/10ft lung attacks/warping through walls/Carl Lewis Zombies, and it ends badly.

    I was just outside Krasnostav, just at Novy Lug when I seen McGinnis was killed, didn't even know he was in game, so made my way to nwaf to see if I could see anybody/try and recover some of his gear...
    Dunno who killed one of your guys, I didn't see anybody to even get a shot away...

    Anybody know if the dead player bodies are still despawning after 5 mins in latest patch?

    Id love to know how all you lot seem to be flowing with weapons, i've ran around most of today with nothing. I found a shotgun once but it was during one of those moments when you're running away from a swarm so i didn't get to keep it for long.
    Its a fairly common weapon to pick up at a deer stand. Failing that, the southern air field control tower often has it or those medical tents in Cherno. Once you go inland it starts to become the "enfield" of the assault rifles and you'll find it everywhere. Its very likely to be in at least one of those tents in stary sober, don't think I have ever gone through there and not found at least one.

    I have used pretty much all the weapons in the game at this stage, bar that 50 cal sniper and I think the AKM is definitely handy alright. It's ammo is common and 1-2 hits is a guaranteed kill, the iron sights are not annoying to work with (unlikely the PDW for example) and the zeroing does allow you to actually attack at a decent range. Granted all at the cost of alerting every zombie on the island to your location... but hey! you got a weapon that can deal with them :)

    So I downloaded Arma + OA by steam last night and ran them, installed Six Launcher to try this out.

    First server I try join was obviously IE1... get this error:

    "No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgWeapons.'

    Then jumps to a Loading screen and just sits there.

    Tried another few servers too and get similar vonfig.bin errors but not of the same name and the same craic. I hit ok and it jumps to a loading screen and just hangs there.

    Any ideas?

    There are problems with the current version. And the getting stuck at loading is one of them. There is a fix on the way soon.

    The weapon config error doesn't affect anything. Happens me sometimes and ive had no issued in the past.

    Ah I see.. well in trying to fix it (verify integrity game cache via steam) I made it worse. Wouldn't boot up OA at all because of some bad serial key shite. So reinstalling OA on steam, another 7gb download woohoo.

    When your finished downloading, make sure you backup the downloads. I nearly threw my computer out the window when I realised I needed to DL Arma2/OA!

    yeah you sure can. a lot of the experienced ppl last well into the teens before they die. But only thing i will say to you is don't get attached to your gear cause you can lose it more ways than just dieing. Most of all its all about risk vs reward for instance if you go to stary or the NW airfield you can be damm sure your not alone out there so u may kill or be killed there but you can also get some gear(and sometimes it can be just crap)

    Something to add to the 'finding north' info :

    Clouds move from west to east, so line-up in the direction of the clouds coming towards you and north will be on your left.

    If the clouds are coming towards you then you're facing West with your back to East, so North would be on your right not left.

    point the hour hand at the sun
    look at the angle between the hour hand and 12, and half it
    this 'halfway point' is south, the opposite is north
