Hi, I originally posted in the animal/pet forum about this and it was suggested I try here. I am looking for advice on getting a Nova Scotia Toller Retriever and can't find any Irish breeders - or anyone who has one.

Does anyone here have any experiece with them, and/or know where the best place to get them is?

    harhar, smartie pants!

I just think they are great dogs! They are fun to train and smart, but calm and dependable.

Hahaha seen them once on a hunt in Canada and there nothing more than a hairer lab but boy can they retrieve some distances in water!!!! Never seem them here

They're a bit smaller than a lab or golden, which would suit me better - and the swimming is a big draw for me.

I was keen on getting one for a while but you'd have to get one from the UK.
I decided against it as it was looking like a lot of hassle and money.
Beautiful dogs admittedly but just a bit too much for now.
I ended up with a lovely GSP x Lab from a forum member and she suits me fine, swims to beat the band as well.

I hear ya - the cost is prohibitive and realistically I can't afford one but one day I will get one!

I was looking at IWS as well - but any I have met are mad (in a good way!) and I already have two mentallers (terriers) the house so wanted something a bit calmer. Also as a first dog for my son so a retriever type ideal, but the golden's a bit big.

Brillant! Hats off good sir! :D

To add value of any degree rather than admiring the witty jokes - a Chesapeake may be more attainable & suitable. You could try & import 1 from the US but not sure of the red tape involved or is it worth the hassle

Why not get a well breed lab pup , great overall retriever great temperament with kids , easy to get you hand on with top class breeding

Nothing at all wrong with a lab but if he's after something a bit different.

Labs and chesapeake's are too big as well. If I can't get the toller then now thinking about an SWD - easily trained, no grooming, friendly. What do you think?
