Hares are a protected wild animal, and can only be shot in season (which is Sept. to Feb), and only trapped/relocated under license/supervision by the NPWS.

Be very careful about doing anything until you have both researched the subject, and gained any/appropriate licenses or permissions.

At this moment in time you definitely would need a section 42 so damage would have to be verified and you would need the section 42 in place before you could even do anything to or with the hares.

Get onto the npws tell them the problem and look for a license, get onto a couring club and ask them to net the place and relocate them to their sancturys. they would be glad of outside hares id say! Or else if thats not going to work go down the section 42 route!

You could use a preventative/ protective method like a tree guard that will work all year round.

With no seasonal constraints to worry about they are likely to be worth looking into and will protect your trees all of the time.
