    What is your comfort treat?

What do you like to do to cheer yourself up, when it's that time of the month or when you are feeling a bit down?

I like to settle on the couch with some popcorn mixed with minstrels and watch a good rom-com film...divine ;)

cuppa tea and chocolate and a magazine

The comfort food treat thing did not bode well for me so these days I'd like to say I buy something as that cheers me up but I don't always get to do that, a nice fuzzy hot water bottle or some captain morgans and diet coke or ginger beer is very soothing :)

    Cold milk and cookies!

Really, really cold milk! Must get some cookies!

My treat is clean linen, clean pjs after a shower :)

    An early night.

Re-runs of Friends and junk food of any description. Cures pretty much everything.

Also, looking up old clips on Youtube of old songs I love or old TV shows I watched as a kid. That's amazingly good for helping bad moods.

Bottle of good beer while I'm watching sport on TV.

A big bowl of mashed potatoes and peas. I know, weird, but I can't help it! That or a hot orange (mi-wadi or something made with hot water, I was reared on it and it's my main hot drink!!). I also like buying new pants. :D

Yes weird but I can relate :) I'm very careful with carbs these days and we only usually have wholemeal because of a condition him indoors has, so my treat is a white bread sandwich ... the filling can vary from a fried egg to lots of salty ham or chicken and mayo ... yummy.

Why are so many people's treats about food?

New bed covers and new pj's for me. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭Susie_Q

Brand new snuggley socks - you can't beat that new sock feeling.

Also a really scaldingly hot bath and a brand new book with that lovely new book smell.

Oh, and a full body massage. :)

I love making a plate of tortillas chips. Spread the chips on a big plate, sprinkle with grated cheese, jalapeno peppers and stick under the grill till the cheese melts. Home made salsa and sour cream on the side. Guacamole if I have any avocados.

Snuggle up on the couch in my pjs with a big plate of these and a pot of tea.

I don't think I have a particular treat for times I'm feeling down. I treat myself well most of the time.

I don't treat myself with food much anymore. Maybe a bottle of ale once a week or somesuch.

A cuddle is always good. And sex of course.

Agree with everyone who said clean sheets + tea + TV or movie.

I like unwinding with a nice glass of wine or bottle of beer sometimes too.

Food-wise my treat would be nice chocolate (Green & Blacks or O Connaills) but if I'm genuinely seeking 'comfort'... tinned spaghetti hoops and toast is my ultimate comfort food :o

On a day like today, getting the fire going, pouring a glass of wine and putting on a feelgood movie. Recent choices have been Strictly Ballroom and The Princess Bride :)

Why are so many people's treats about food?

I guess most people enjoy food, and would look forward to a particular meal or type of chocolate or whatever. For me, the "treat" is having something I enjoy (that may or may not be particularly healthy but is pleasureable to eat) and *not* feeling guilty about it. Just pure indulgence every once in a while. Feeds the 'soul' or whatever. Then it's back to normal.

Can't speak for everyone else, but that's kind of how I see it.

A chip butty on batch bread :)

Why have I never tried this

I like to put on clean bedding, and then I like to shower, shave everywhere and tweeze my eyebrows and paint all my nails and go to bed and watch films. Weird but I always feel good when I'm well groomed since I'm often a mess :pac:

My favourite special treat is a white hot chocolate, homemade or from a good cafe.

I clean when I'm stressed (exams next week, house is spotless) so I scrub the house from top to bottom, ring my mother briefly so she she doesn't ring me back (those conversations can go on for hours if I don't do a bit of pre-emptive work), clean sheets, hot shower, Chinese maybe but not necessary and something familiar and comforting on the TV - West Wing, Breakfast Club etc.

Yeah i totally agree. I have a treat night every Friday or Saturday night, its like my reward after the weeks work. I like to indulge myself and i usually get a take away or go out for a chinese/thai meal. Sometimes we get dinner from m+s. A chocolate dessert if a must also:D

Salt & Vinegar Pringles, Butter Popcorn & Minstrels, or just a really good cup of coffee. I love my coffee!

Sitting down after a hot shower with a good book/movie and a hot cup of tea (even better if someone makes it for me!) with a big bar of Cadbury's dairymilk!

If I'm watching a movie, then I get bonus comfort points if my boyfriend is there to cuddle into! - he'd often make the tea too, so this scenario is all round luxury!

I'm not really a fan of magazines, but when I feel a bit down I love to buy the story ones, like Take a Break, Pick me Up, Chat and those.

Mind numbing I know, but the stories are often so ridiculous, they make me feel good :pac:

Salt and Vinegar Crisps are my comfort food - anything crunchy.
... and Iced Coffee with plenty of milk

    chokablok-ice-cream.jpeg

And a Thai take away for a comfort dinner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,166 ✭✭✭carolinespring

First port of call a big cuddle from the Hubby and cuppa cuddling on the sofa but if he is away then a boiling hot cuppa, magazine/book and into bed with the tv on low in the back ground or if its really really bad a glass of ice cold low fat milk (has to be L/F, as I hate full fat) and a bag od cheese and onion Tayto.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,555 ✭✭✭Ave Sodalis

A long, hot bath in the evening with candles and nice smelling stuff (lie lavender or anything along those lines) followed by wrapping up in cosy pj's in front of the fire with a nice big tub of Ben and Jerry's and a good book or movie. Bliss! :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 195 ✭✭Belle Morte

I love nothing better than getting into a pair of pyjamas and cuddling up into the couch / bed all night for a marathon movie/tv session, in addition to copious amounts of pizza/chinese/indian and some Haagen Dazs or Ben & Jerrys for afterwards. Bliss :o

Marks and spencers cookies, glass of cold milk, duvet and a good movie

    OR

Sexy times and cuddle in a nice warm bed when it's rainy outside

A hot shower, then a big cup of hot tea, a packet of minstrels, a magazine and curled up in bed with clean crisp bed linen. Bliss!

A trip to the cinema during off-peak hours with some ice-cream and a big bag of popcorn:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 250 ✭✭AhInFairness

Time of the month and I turn into a chocolate fiend. Minstrels are my current fave but I'm quite fickle :)

Bad-day-at-work pick me up is to make lists reaffirming all the good things I have going on; things I am thankful for, talents that I have, the goals I have for my life. I love making lists. Preferably in a fresh notebook with a really nice pen.

Payday treat is usually a trip to a bookshop where I buy myself a nice paperback to read in the bath and the aforementioned notebooks and pens.

Feeling-a-bit-down treat is a new top or a handbag - usually of the Penney's or Dunnes variety (lets just say...I make a lot of lists! ;) )
