    rb - ivanovic/ferreira
    lb - cole/bertrand
    cb - terry/luiz/cahill - ivanovic can do a job

    dm- essien/mikel/romeu

    cm - meireles/ramires/ hazard

    amc -lampard /oscar/benayoun

    lw - moses/mata

    cf - torres/sturridge

    rw - marin/malouda?

obviously versatility means guys can move around like benayoun, oscar, sturridge etc

I really can't believe barca are after Alex Song. It's like they got bored and decided to start another transfer saga with arsenal.

Duncan Castles is very reliable IMO

I'm not saying it's not true, just can't understand why they're after him.

Balotelli could turn into a serious player if he matures correctly. According to Mancini, they've rejected several bids for him.

Why would ManC actually sell him, they dont need the money and they dont seem to have a player lined up to come in. So for Mancini, its needlessly weakening his squad.

id have taken the 40m for him.

spent it on llorente, or van persie or higuain or falcao

Sky Sports Italia claim Inter Milan are showing an interest in Arsenal's Theo Walcott, who has just a year left on his current contract.

    Interesting but highly doubtful.

We did it with Cazorla. So sauce for the goose etc we can't complain.

That being said; the way Barcelona conduct themselves transfer wise is absolutely reprehensible. I can't think of any other club that involve the players in the mechanics of a transfer in the way they do. In contrast, look at how Gerrard conducted himself when asked about Joe Allen the other night [and that deal was done at that stage more or less] - consummate professional.

As an Arsenal fan I'd take silly money in the region of £30m [briefcases full of cash only, you can keep your Spanish Govt T-Bills] but other than that I'd point to his contract [2015] and tell them to **** off. If they want to spend that much on a back up to Busquets then more power to them.

I see they have also rolled out some of their key players and had them name drop Song as a great player etc.

Now where did that before ?

Carzola's contract had been breeched because he hadn't been paid in months, Malaga had also agreed to let the player find a new club.

Barca are just at their usual ****e of tapping other clubs players up.

The tweeter #Barcastuff claims that this sort of discussion of potential players is normal in Spain. The norm is to say that "X would be a valuable addition to the squad and I would be delighted to play along side him"

no idea if it's true but maybe this sort of comment is not as bad as it seems

Their players talking about it is normal enough for europe in general but the club talking ton the player or his agent without the consent of Arsenal is bang out of order.

Clubs/Agents operating by proxy is common though, unless you catch the player and the other club's official in a room, there is very little you can do.

It is out of order but happens constantly, agents run transfers, not clubs.

Joe Allen to Liverpool for £15m and Victor Moses to Chelsea for £9m is ****ing insane to be honest.

I'm especially disappointed to see Moses go to Chelsea at that price, he'll be yet another English player that moves to a big club too early and will keep the bench warm for a few years before moving to a bottom half club, when he should be playing week in, week out. Of course he'll have more money than he can spend every week so why would he care?

The Allen deal is atrocious. At the end of the day he's rarely passed a ball forwards in his Premier League career and has gone for £15m. £15m, fucking hell.

It's amazing how someone's opinion can change so dramatically when their own club is involved. Here's your opinion on Fletcher for £12m..

    Paully D wrote: »
The vast majority of people said the same when we spent up to £16m on Bent, yet Fletcher has a better goals per minutes record playing in far worse teams.

He's a bit overpriced IMO but it's the way the markets have gone. When you have middle of the road teams such as us and teams like Wolves making billions off TV deals it's only going to end up increasing fees. Wolves paid £7.5m for him, have him under contract for another 3 years (with the option of a 4th) and finanically are under no pressure to sell. They hold all the cards. If we want him we have to pay what the ask.

At the end of the day we're at a crossroads where we need to buy players that fit into a system and not individual talent. Of course we could probably buy a very exciting individual player from abroad for that sort of money, but with Fletcher we know what we're going to get. He fits perfectly into O'Neill's system and will score 12-15 goals a season for us whilst helping the rest of the team to do better. He's also one of the most clinical strikers in the league and will get far more opportunities to score with us than he ever did at Wolves or Burnley.

At the end of the day he may be a bit overpriced but will be a very good signing for us. I suspect if he was called Fletcherinho and people studied his statistics a bit more it wouldn't be seen as such a high price to pay for him.

Agree 100% chucky , Sunderland better off with Jessica Fletcher for that kinda money!....12m

That's twice now this summer I've seen ridiculous prices mentioned for Witsel.

Last one was Real Madrid to pay €40m. Its absurd.

He was signed for something in the region of 8m last season and did quite well for Benfica. There is no hope in hell is value has risen to more than €20m, and even then that is on the high side.

Someone is quite honestly just pulling figures from their ass I would think.

Someone's interpetation of value or money well spent is always going to be different.
Paully D sees 15 million on what looks like a buddy for Lucas to be a holding type mid as a waste while he sees 12 million on a striker who can benefit on service from Mclean and Larsson with Sessignon as good business........you disgree, tough sh1te.......

Paully obvious hasn't watched Allen then, which makes his post even worse. £12m for a player who scored only 8 more goals than a guy who can only pass the ball backwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Although I agree Liverpool paid over the odds for Allen, if the reported 15m is true, its ridiculous to suggest that he is not at least a level above Fletcher.

Different positions I know, but can you imagine the uproar if Liverpool had paid that amount for Fletcher? 8m would have been a good price for him, anything more is definitely excessive.

8 goals in a shocking team.........interpetation my friend

The whole "Allen doesn't pass forward" thing is retarded.

He passes forward plenty, when it's the right pass to make, he's one of the smartest midfielders in the PL, he passes it where it makes the most sense to retain possession, just like Xavi or Pirlo or anyone else who plays a similar roll, he also has one of the best passing ranger in the PL and is well able to play diagnal balls to the wings, as he did to Dyer and Sinclare last season and the season before.
I'd rather Allen passing it 7 yards laterally and keeping possession than Gerrard trying one of his hollywood balls and it ending up out of play and back with the other team.

This time next year people will be calling him a bargain.

Papiss Cisse scored 20+ goals a season for Freiburg, a shockingly poor team.

    Signed for Newcastle for 10.5m

    Interpretation my friend.
