Just curious about this. Does anyone knw did hulk hogan ever appear/ visit ireland ??. Back in the 80's early 90's hulkamania was huge around the world and must of been promoted around the world.

Kids/wresting fans today are very fortunate to have the chance to see there favourite wwe superstars in person while years ago there was no chance.

I was curious about this myself, but no I don't think he did visit here. Even during his heyday it seemed he rarely wrestled abroad on house shows. Those who saw him wrestle in January this year in England witnessed a rare slice of wrestling history.

Here's a complete list of WWF and WCW house shows in Dublin from 1985 to present day. I'm just going to assume your question was referring to Republic of Ireland, most Belfast shows were the same roster anyway.

A few obvious notes, WWF/E didn't come to Ireland for 9 years between 1995 and 2004. Then they did a double Raw show in Dublin in 2004 and must have been so delighted with ticket sales that they actually had FIVE shows here in 2005. Think that's a record. Do WWE ever put on five shows a year in the same city even in America?

Something else I noticed, during the 00's, WWE ran several back-to-back shows here, something they stopped doing after 2010. I was at that 2010 show and I was surprised myself at the amount of empty seats, so much so that the stewards bumped everyone sitting in the nosebleeds forward. That being said, because WWE can't sell out here anymore, I'm guessing that's why they stopped the 2-nights-in-a-row booking.

Either that or maybe the WWF 1995 show had low tickets sales and they decided not to come back for a few years. Looking at that 1995 card, you had Bret Hart, Taker, and Michaels, but nobody else worth paying to watch.

Despite the 9 year gap, worth noting they did come to Belfast a few times during the Dublin hiatus in 2002 and 2003.

The show in the RDS had an attendance of 22,000!?!?

I remember being there and I didnt think it was that much at the time.

Some attendance for a house show.

It was great seeing Stone Cold to be fair.

RE: No more back to back shows.

Have to take on board that they expanded the Point so it was nearly teice the size. Two shows now would be the equivilent of four back then so I guess thats why they only do one Dublin show now...

Re: The point expansion, excellent point, never thought about that.

Re: 22,000 at the RDS, jeez yeah that was some attendance alright, i'd say 10,000 there only to see Austin! Great card too though. Freezing that day though if I remember correctly!

I was up in one of the stands and I was freezing haha.

Maybe if TNA come back to Dublin in the next few years we could see Hogan make an appearance. They could actually sell out the O2 if they advertise Hogan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

Yep I think Hogan, Sting and Flair would sell-out the o2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

How big is the 02? I know you're a big TNA fan but I don't know how many fans who knew of Hogan from a decade ago would see him, or even know about it since TNA aren't the best advertisers. TNA can do a couple thousand but i wouldn't be pushing 7+ for a TNA show, via name brand.

Like that Nottingham show where hogan wrestled draw 2500 in a 10,000 arena. Maybe put them all on the show and advertise the crap out of it!

TNA didn't come to ireland last time did they, we missed out on Sting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Probably a seperate thread would be needed for this.

Advertising Sting, Flair and Hogan would not sell out the O2 these days.

However, if they advertised Jeff Hardy ( and a few of the other recent WWE castoffs) and promoted it well, they could come close to a sellout, especially if they made it an Impact taping.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=70358689

There is also a photo of Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase and The Sensational Sherry in O'Connell Street floating around somewhere.

Would also love to see a few more pics from those early 90's shows myself.

WWE (Smackdown!) @ Dublin, Ireland - The Point - April 20, 2005 (6,400; sell out)
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Paul London defeated Spike Dudley, Billy Kidman, and Chavo Guerrero Jr.
Mark Jindrak & Torrie Wilson defeated Carlito Caribbean Cool & Dawn Marie
    Booker T defeated Rene Dupree
Sho Funaki & Nunzio defeated Akio & Shannon Moore

Big Show, Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio defeated Kurt Angle & The Basham Brothers

I remember Rene Dupree and Carlito getting a lot of heat from the crowd, Undertakers entrance was spine chilling live & Cena got an amazing pop that night. (in fairness though it was his first of many title runs)

Good Crowd aswell, guys behind me started a "**** you Holly" chant during his match :pac:

little kid though in front of me, kept standing up on the seat and he was kinda tall for his age so he kept blocking my views despite telling him and
    his mother numerous times.

    WWE (Smackdown!) @ Dublin, Ireland - Point Theatre - November 12, 2006
WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick defeated KC James & Idol Stevens; the challengers originally won the match and titles when Stevens pinned London after Michelle McCool hit London in the back with her shoe but Teddy Long came out and had the match restarted
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms defeated Sho Funaki
Matt Hardy pinned Tatanka with the Twist of Fate
    Michelle McCool defeated Kristal
World Heavyweight Champion Booker T defeated Batista and Finlay by pinning Batista after hitting him with the title belt; after the bout, Batista paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero
Kane pinned MVP with the chokeslam
WWE US Champion Chris Benoit defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. via submission with the Crippler Crossface; Layla was the guest ring announcer for the bout
The Undertaker defeated Ken Kennedy despite interference from John Bradshaw Layfield; after the bout, it was announced the main event for the following night's card would be the Undertaker & Kane against World Heavyweight Champion Booker T, Ken Kennedy, & John Bradshaw Layfield in a handicap match playa!

I was at this show and it was a decent enough crowd with some dueling Chavo/Benoit chants and me and my mate cheering on Tatanka while none of the kids there knew who he was.

We did have to tell some guy in front of us to stop cursing so much though.

Saw Steamboat when I went for a drink and had a chat with him which was cool.

I was at that Smackdown show too and it was unreal. Me and my friends chanting all night, our voices were gone afterwards.

We were front row on the balcony and roared our heads off for Funaki, so much so that he looked directly up at us completely bewildered that he was getting a reaction. It was hilarious as all the kids there hadn't a clue why we loved him so much.

    Yeah it was quality..

I remember a good bit from it. Shawn Michaels lying across the top rope and Hakushi walking the top rope. I was 4th row ringside..

I just spent the last two hours looking for the photos from it but could only find one photo :(

I'll put my one photo of Duke 'The Dumpster' Drose up. :(

I too was at the show in '95. Was my one and only show on these shores. Don't have many memories bar getting to slap the hands of Billy Gunn, Bret and HBK as well as laughing at the folks on the balcony above the entrance pouring popcorn onto Hakushi's lampshade hat :pac:

There's also a match missing from the card: Adam Bomb vs King Kong Bundy. I'll never forget those class goggles :p

I wonder if the WWE would have any photos archived?

My first ever WWF/E show! Aw, memories!:) I was about 6 or 7 rows from the front. Some idiot ahead of me had thick, curly hair; couldn't see around her when she stood up...which was often!

I have a good few photos from that night. I was 6 at the time and quite short so Dad took them. If I find them, I'll pop them up.

The Undertaker's entrance scared the shít outta me!! Paul Bearer looked every creepier in the flesh. And much like people today, I also went for a píss break during the women's match!:o

I vividly remember getting candy floss, popcorn and coke...then stopping at McDonalds near the Red Cow on the way home.

I think the only reason I got to go to it was because Dad was heading to Lebanon for 6 months in a few weeks. Ah, parental guilty!:D

There was a WWF show here on Maundy Thursday, 1992. I can't remember the card for it off my head other than Undertaker and Sid Justice was the main event. If I can find it, I'll list off the matches that was on that night.

Yeah for sure, there are some inaccuracies in these listings. There was an event main evented by Bret and Bam Bam in the 1990s. I was there. I can't remember when exactly. 1993 I believe, because the Hitman mentions it in his autobiography. Phenomenal to see him in the flesh at such a young age though. He was a true hero to me.

The card with Michaels and Razor was great as well. I was delighted to see HBK lose and throw a strop at Diesel.

For these tours, no money was spared as local concert promoters did the leg work; WWF used Aitken Promotions in Ireland and Harvey Goldsmith for the UK while Apollo and Aitken did the WCW tours. They were flown into and out of London and moved around via coach, except to Dublin and Belfast which was done via plane and coach transfers. Back then, flights would have had first/business class flights so leg room wasn't an issue. There was also ground crews on hand for rings, merchandise etc. For hotels, they were put up in 4 and 5 star hotels so finding special beds etc would have been pre requisite to cater for the large guys.

When WWE ran shows in Belfast in and around 2002, the talent was flown in and out from Scotland on the day of the show. This was partly because of a alcohol ban imposed after a lot of incidents on a UK bound flight in 2002. The flight apparently saw Ric Flair strip off and do laps of the jet, X-Pac cut off Michael PS Haye's Mullet, Hall get drunk (For a change) and Goldust serenade his estranged wife, Terri on the in plane intercom :D

After reading this mate I racked my brains and remembered the show I was at in the point was the same night as Man United beat Palace in selhurst park to all but damn win there 1st league under Fergie ( I remembered watching the highlights afterwards ). Google tells me this was 21st April 1993 so it must have been a similar card to above. I remeber Virgil been in the 1st match alright. Could have been Gonzales alright, dont know why I had it in my head it was Yoko. Still pretty sure Yoko was at one of the 2 shows I was at.

I remember going to this show. Man, was only a kid.
Always remember shawn micheals and earl hebner doing this cheesy spot before the match got started :pac:

Michaels was in the corner and Herbner was checking him (the cliche check your knee pads) and as hebner finished & turned around michaels did a "come on" hand gesture to the crowd. Cue herber turning around and pointing his finger at michaels as in "dont you do that" :pac: Michaels did it a futher two times with herbner doing the same "i'm warning you michaels!" gesture.

cheesy and stupid as hell :pac: ... "now michaels, I am warning you. If you do your job any more by entertaining this crowd... HEY...i'm warning you!" :pac: Classic WWF :P
