    4 mile. easy. 35:45

Did this a bit closer to McMillians suggestion of 9:43. Not terribly exciting but enjoyable enough.

Am going to TRY to do intervals on my own tomorrow because I can't meet the club in the evening but I'm not promising anything. Aim is for 4 x 800m.

Had to dig deep to find this log!

It's been a hectic few weeks since I last logged, between OH's working away from home, my own work and general life stuff getting in the way so training had to get the cab door for a while.

Only managed to get 4 runs in 3 weeks..eeek! Mostly 3 or 4 miles but got a nice 5 miler in today in 45:06 which felt...ok...ish. Haven't managed to get any speed work in and the club has changed the training time to 7.30am which is impossible for me with the wee one, it's a pity because I really enjoyed it:(

Certainly need to re-evaluate some goals too- Curlew warrior is not going to happen as I'm going to be in Berlin. Weddings, Christenings and other unavoidable events are also playing havoc with my plans but hey-ho, that's life. I'll just keep tipping' away at it and hope to squeeze a couple of races in over the summer.

    3 miles @8:28

This route around the town is my nemesis! Haven't run it in ages and it's still bloody tough, even for a recovery/easy run.

So I'm going to try to pick up the HH programme again with a view to aiming for the race series 10km, which means I'm starting on week 3 now. Hopefully I'll be able to make this race but the way this summer is panning out that's certainly not guaranteed!

    Plan for the week:
    4M / 40min tempo / 3M / 60min Crosstraining / 6M

    4 miles @ 8:45

    Argh, what have I done?
My ankle's a bit fecked tonight and I don't really know what it is. Felt a niggle in my left ankle before starting my runs the last 2 days but after tonight's run I can't really put any weight on it. There's no swelling or anything so I'm a bit at a loss as to what it is. Gonna take it handy for a day or two. Maybe running three days in a row after a few weeks break wasn't the best idea considering I'm not exactly in top shape!

Sounds like a trip to the physio is in order. Best to get these things looked after before they have the chance to become persistent problems. Can you stick to grass running in the meantime? Keep up the good work. You'll get there.

Good to see you back posting ! Fell off the wagon a little myself with baby Bungy being sick and then as soon as she was better I got the same dose! Sorry to hear about your ankle but best to get it seen to as KC suggests if a bit of rest doesn't cure it. Hope babytri is doing well, is there a first birthday coming up :D ?

Ankle feels better after a bit of taking it easy so decided to use the time to do some much neglected strength and core stuff. Pilates last night and intervals tonight before watching the match...posting now to distract myself from the carnage!

I think you're right though KC, going to do a few runs on grass over the weekend and see how it feels but I'll see a physio if it hasn't improved.

It's easy to fall off the wagon with the wee ones around Bungy Girl! Hope bab's is feeling better. We'd the first birthday a couple of weeks ago alright, great craic altogether, can't believe it's been a year, she's growing up so fast!

    4 miles @ 8:30

Ankle felt ok so strapped it up and did 4 miles forest trails this morning with the dog. Really enjoyable run, can feel the benefits of this week's bit of training.

Plan is for 6 miles tomorrow but we'll have to see how that goes...OH gets priority tomorrow and he's heading out for a long cycle so mightn't have time what with all the baking and pampering I'll have to do for fathers day:)

...So I didn't get out for that 6 mile run 2 weeks ago. In fact I've only been out twice since then. But that's mainly because I was away drinking Weissbier and eating schnitzel for the past week, and I only had carry on luggage so no run for running gear:)

    20th June. 4 miles @ 8.35

    2nd July. 3 miles @ 8.25
Had an awful stitch tonight for a while after about mile 1 I had to stop and walk it off for a bit. After that the 2nd half felt much easier than the first. My question is this: do you warm up for a while before you easy pace runs? I never do but I'm wondering should I, I do decent stretching but that's it.

    4th July
    4 miles @ 8:50

    5th July
    Pilates

Trying to keep the pace down for these runs, seem to be constantly running at the same pace though.
I've done no speed work in weeks, since the club changed their training time to the mornings. BUT I've been pro-active and I'm trying to get a "gaggle of women", to coin the technical term:), to join me one evening a week for these sessions. Really miss running with a group and I'm getting nowhere on my own so I'm looking forward to the company.

Heading away for a couple of days so no running til' Sunday.

Hi ladytri, I always warm up before anything other than easy pace runs (which for me would be about 2 mins/mile slower than 10K race pace). So for any session involving more than a continuous plod, I would always start off very slow to warm up (60 - 65% of Max HR). Yes it's slow enough to elicit smart comments from the local cider-drinkers (yawn !) but I find it really helps keep stitches at bay (used to suffer very badly from them but not so much anymore). Maybe experiment a little with the timing of your eating to see if that makes a difference too ? I miss group training too, it's hard to get anyone to accompany you at baby-friendly times

Thanks Bungy girl, you're definitely right about eating times, need to play around with that a little.

It's been tricky getting time to log but in summary:
    Fridaystrength training
Up home in Dublin for a few days and no minder so could only manage this session, no harm, it's something I always neglect!

    Sunday 4k easy
First run with the ex Tri ladies, well 1 of them anyway... Drummed up 4 ladies who're keen to get back on the road but need to take it easy for a few runs for them to acclimatize.

    Tuesday 4 k easy
Same as sun with 1 of the girls

    Thursday 3 miles @ 8:40
On my own for this. Nice run, looking forward to trying to squeeze a longer run in tomorrow if I can. Away again this weekend so long run not guaranteed.

On a different note, babytri started to walk eh, run this week. I kid you not, it's like guiding a drunk... her sense of balance and direction is non-existent! Kamikaze baby...
So my question is do Saucony kinvara's come in infant sizes:)

Brilliant re Babytri on the move, your nerves will be shot though ;) Baby Bungy is only a couple of weeks off walking I think but can crawl and climb at the speed of light. Batten down the hatches!
Great that you'll have company for some of your runs at least. What's your next race ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭ladytri

I'm reluctant to say Bungy Girl incase I jinx it! Every race I've wanted to do this summer has clashed with something else so just going to keep going, try to up the distances (and reduce the weight!!) and see if there's anything on locally that I can sneak in. There's a 5k next weekend that I might try, doubt I'll break the elusive 24 minutes but would be nice to do anyway.

    Mon. July 16th
    5km @ 8:40
All grand apart from getting that bloody stitch again which reduced me from tortoise pace to snail's pace. I waited for 3 hours after eating before heading out. Anyone any advice on how to avoid these? Never used to get them but getting them on every run now.

    Tuesday 5k @ 8:30

No stitch tonight, turns out I just need to stop eating mansized portions:)
Tried to do this kinda fartlek style as I'm plodding along a the same pace all the time and found my speedy bits very tough - BUT I'm meeting one of the girls tomorrow night for 8 x 400's so should be fun!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭ladytri

    WED
    8 X 400M

    900M W/UP
    8 x 400's ranging from 1:33 to 1:45.
These felt pretty hard and I thought I'd lost a lot of fitness since I did them last (think it was about May!!) but had a look back through the log and managed to keep in around the same times so gotta be happy with that...apart from the one horrific 1:45 rep but we'll not dwell too much on that.

    900M C/D
