Just a quick one you might be able to help with.

I'm heading in tomorrow to tax the jeep. For the last 4 years i have had the DOE, and tax on the same date, and each for a year at a time, but with things seriously tight (money wise), and a few health issues over the last 12 months she was off the road for a while, and now the DOE cert, and tax are "out of sync".

I have about 6 weeks or so left to run on the cert, but the tax needs done. While i doubt they would allow me to tax her for a year, should i have any issues taxing her for 3 months on the current cert? IOW could they refuse even though the cert is in date?

You can tax it for a full year with that cert. Guy who works for me tests his jeep, taxes it for 3 months, then another 3, then another 3, then a year. He says it gives him breathing room to do the next DOE! Once you have a DOE cert with an end date after the date you go in to the tax office, you can tax away for anything up to a year. I have done the same many times.

It doesn't seem to matter as long as your test is current you can tax the vehicle.
I taxed mine with 2 weeks left on the cert, for a year.

you will be able to tax it for the full year, a lot of people get it tested then tax for 6 months, then 3 then a year so the save doe every year

That'll change in the next year or so when they bring in DOE discs that have to be displayed

    Cheers lads.

I have always taxed it, and done the DOE at the same time and for a year so the matter was never given a second thought. Might see if i can scrounge up enough for a year. As said give a little breathing room.

I'm not worried about the DOE. She passes it with flying colors everytime. This all started over a year ago. Brought her into the main dealer to get her yearly service (i service every 2 months myself), and stamp the book. I asked them to look the wheel assembly, and change brake pads, etc, as she felt "funny". The lads told me the track control arms were fecked. Told them to repair it, and i'd be back to collect and then to the test centre. Wasn't home an hour when a phone call form the dealers came in. The damage caused by the fecking big alloys that i had on here for a while was a little worse. Bearings, etc. Not so much damage as premature wear.

Anyway the full service, brakes, wiper blades, etc was to come to €240. In the end it cost €700 for everything. So the money for the test, tax etc was well down. In the end taxed it for 6 months with a plan to tax when i built up the money. Never happened.:o

Thanks again lads. Weight of my mind. Traveling for the next few days and my concern was they would "refuse" because the cert will expire withina month or so.

Just so you know, I banged up my Hilux Surf real good last year (Writeoff) and AXA would not process the claim untill I produced a valid DOE cert, so there is another angle to consider outside of the Tax.

Well got her done this morning.

The lady behind the counter never batted an eyelid so cheers for all the advice lads.

Snake_Doctor - You're dead right. I'm with Axa too, and i've no doubt were something to happen they may take the same approach. I fully intend to have her DOE'd before the expiry of the current cert, but for now i have 5-6 weeks breathing room.

    Thanks again all.

For commercials the insurance company can also void your insurance, so be careful,

A DOE for a jeep is only 80 or 90 euro, so best just getting it done.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

Just to be clear i have every intention of getting the DOE. My only concern was being able to Tax the jeep on the last cert.

As said above i have always done both at the same time, but since they fell "out of sync" i was unsure as to what could be done. She is due her DOE within the next few weeks, and should be ready to go by then.

    Thanks again for the responses.
