    - Not real money

    - Will be mostly favourites backed

    - Limited selections each day

    - 1st bet €20

    - Double up on next selection if beaten

    - Prices will be best price available

    - No reasoning, I will make a selection purely on favouritism or if there is a gamble

    Looser.

Hope this is showing how martingales don't work. If it was real money I'd be starting to panic.

    Bet 5

    Lingfield 4.30
    Dorothy's Dancing 7/4 €160

    Balance -€292.50

Martingales do not work. If this bet looses you better hope you have a big bank to regain some losses.

If I was doing this for real I'd keep going untill one comes in, take my money and run.

Isn't that exactly what a Martingale proponent would say?

Also, horse-racing isn't really a Martingale system since you can change the EV by increasing your knowledge beyond that of the bookies

Yes exactly. I'm using Horse racing as its most common around here. Fair enough point about knowledge, but imo people who try a system like this have very little knowledge of the sport.

I know someone doing exactly this with horses, no knowledge of the sport whatsoever, just going on favourites one race after the next.

Made some money for couple days, and got stung on a day where feck all favourites came in to the tune of almost €1500 when his bank stopped transactions on his card.

I'll be honest I thought I could make some money at this with a little knowledge and thoughtful picking. I said I'd do the log to see how it goes.

Even with virtual money there when I had a few losers and the bank going deep in the red I found myself getting a little panicky.

If it was real money I imagine things would get pretty desperate.

Just saying, Martingale does work, if you have unlimited funds and are stupid.

Firstly there is no such thing as unlimited funds so you can scratch that notion.

Secondly stupidity is not a requirement to be successful, in fact its the very opposite.

So essentially you are saying it does not work.

Ah I tried this system many times before, made some quick gains but always got caught out in the end. Was so nice when it worked but favourites generally win 33% of the time (horse racing) so how do you know your picking the right ones? If you are backing evens favourites they will have to win over 50% of the time to turn a profit and so on.

Came to the conclusion that nobody can possibly make decent money in the long term backing favourites.. The only time a bookie loses money is when the favourites win - and bookies make millions in profit every year.

I figure the only way to do it is if you have a confident selection every now and then with inside info or something and hammer into it, bookies dont even care about taking big bets anymore because most of their profit is coming from the mugs playing roulette and slot machines etc...

Best of luck with this ft9.

Picking favourites can certainly reap rewards, selectivity is key.
