    Without having anything to compare size/scale i would hazard a guess at either Pine Marten or if larger Fox. Just a guess.

    Some of them look like a fox/small dog or possbily an otter.

    I'd say an otter. Its beside a river no dogs really would be messing about a river really if its away from a house. Look at this link. The prints is same in size don't you think? I may be wrong hey. http://www.uksafari.com/otters2.htm

    They are wanderers and scroungers so it is no biggie for them to stroll along a ditch or river.Nor do they just eat fish....frogs,voles,mice,rats, etc can be prey as well.
