Tesco Poleberry Waterford refused to accept a single McCambridge Pigsback coupon from me.

They said it was due to "problems" with the coupons.

Is that a problem with the McCambridge ones or all pigsback coupons?

I used 5 pigsback coupons in Tesco today so don't think its all Tesco and all pigsback coupons.

i used that coupon in poleberry a few weeks ago, did it scan? mine did.

Tesco Ardkeen Waterford will now only accept one pigsback coupon in a tranaction which is a pain if you want to buy a couple of different items with coupons.

I think the end is nigh for the pigsback coupons. They are becoming more trouble than they are worth.

report this to pigsback, thats not what's in their terms and conditions.

    also report it here:

Its not just Waterford, I have had the pigs back coupons refused in Carlow (one coupon on a €20 shop:() and New Ross, New Ross didn't want to take any coupons at all (3 coupons, one pigsback 2 from other sources). I will try emailing tesco and see what they say.

Suddenly people looking after themselves & getting 30 Pizzas or 5 cases of ironing water etc doesn't look like such a great idea.

Jesus, I tried to say to people that they were destroying it & was told to mind my own business (not in so many words).

    Well done folks. Well done.

I did email pigsback before I posted it.

    I agree with you 100%.
It sickens me to see some posters boasting about how they snapped up what is in reality a ridiculous amount of items.
    Now we'll all lose out.

While I agree that misuse of coupons is wrong. If a person has 30 coupons for 30 items they are within the rules.
I dont think tesco will stop accepting due solely to people on boards.the bigger issue is people using 2 coupons for one product and using the wronh coupons on products and boasting about how they got away with it.

Tesco in tullamore are not accepting any coupons not only from pigsback but manufacturer vouchers as well I was shock when the manager told me that they have to many people using the coupons and they are no more longer accepting them That is some stupid joke

I tried to use a Pigsback coupon in Tesco, Paul Street, Cork a few days and and the self service till wouldn't accept it. Called the girl over who said that they had a lot of problems with Pigsback coupons and the machines wouldn't accept them anymore.

It wasn't a copy - it was the first one I had printed out. Should have asked for the manager but at 6pm and about 30 people behind me in the queue it didn't seem like the best time.

Just to update, I tried the pigsback coupons in Tesco last weekend and they took them, no questions, was actually same person refused them last time.
So worth a try again everyone.
Also went armed with the email I got from tesco (stating that at no time did they not take them and to ask for the name of the person refusing and email it to them) on my phone just in case.

I had a refusal at tesco poleberry today also. tried to use pigsback coupon on a already discounted (by tesco) product, the manager said they were not accecpting them on stock that was already reduced, i pointed out the reduction on the product was by tesco and the coupon was from the product supplier, so they were not two promotions. his answer was they are no longer accecpting them as too many people were abusing them. he was given this order from his direct manager and he did not know if it was country wide, i told him other stores are allowing them, so it did not make sense he basically told me if there are other stores agreeing to allow the coupons on already discounted items then maybe thats the store to shop in!

has anyone had any sucess in any of the south east tescos?

bwt the guy in the queue behind me said he had the exact same issue with coupons a week ago and waded in to my defence. cheers mate!

Have you reported these recent refusals to Pigsback? and if so what was their reply?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

    Did you try Ardkeen?

They may go more by the book, so if Poleberry are in the wrong your fine but if hey are right then ardkeen will probably have the e-mail printed out and available for supervisors to read and sign.

    Worth a try.

Used 2 Pigsback coupons in Tesco Drogheda today- at the self-service checkout, they both scanned without any problem.

Also used coupons in Dunnes Stores with no difficulty.

I used two pigsback vouchers in Tesco ardkeen in waterford on friday and they were accepted no problem, have used them a good few times with no problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭ladypip

Ive never had a problem with my local Tesco taking them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,077 ✭✭✭Shelflife

As a retailer (much smaller than tesco) we dont take any vouchers.

The main reason is that we simply dont gat paid for a lot of them and that it can take 6 -12 months to get paid.

So we send off a quantity of vouchers worth €200 and we end up getting paid in dribs and drabs and will only get about €190. you then try to contact the compnay involved and you might eventually get another €2 or €3 out of them.

More trouble then they are worth.

The whole point is to save money. The price of living in this country has not come down yet all our wages are being cut, we have heavy tax burdens so at the end of the day people are broke and if I get a coupon from a producer and my local store won't accept it, I will stand my ground and get every bloody manager off their arses until they do. I don't mind making a holy show of myself. The likes of Tesco and Dunnes who put their prices up and down whenever they chose, with no rebuke from anyone should bow down a little. I don't expect the smaller outlets will, but thats understandable. The big boys need to.
I would love if the whole couponing became the norm here like in the states.....I'd be one of those who sits at home for hours on end cutting out coupons!!

Here here Jen. Gone are the days when I can afford to spend 150 euro+ a week getting essential grocery's The big boys in the grocery world need to understand there is hardly anybody out there untouched by the economic downturn, If they want more custom they should set themselves apart in the money saving stakes. Free coupons, printable coupons on their websites, coupons sent out weekly/monthly to customers or printed in weekly papers are all ways to get me into a store.

The self service machine in Dunnes (st Stephens Green) told me to set them to one side and wait for assistance, a supervisor was eventually called took her ages of entering stuff on the screen, one would not work and got the other one. Kinda embarrassing when there is a queue. Next time I'll go to regular checkout when I have these coupons.

I would prefer if price reductions across the board became the norm without the need to use coupons. :)

That is exactly the view of the supermarkets, If you ask for coupons, they will say 'This week we have 8 million euros worth of half price offers' ( the suppliers pay fr these too).

Absolutley, you should, Straycat. Tesco is a major chain store, not a franchise or independent. Either thay accept coupons or they don't. It's about time they made their mind up. If they don't believe it brings people through their doors then so be it. As a consumer I prefer to know one way or the other, then I can source my goods accordingly instead of being mislead.
I'm getting fed up with hearing about branches that are whingeing about being inconvenienced, while other branches have no problem. Do it or don't. Just make an official policy on it...storewide.
I think you have every reason, as it is you that has been inconvenienced, to push them on it.

Tesco Monaghan refused my Big Al's Coupons as I was told if the coupon doesn't scan than they will not accept it. This is a new rule as the have had people coming in with counterfit coupons.

Oh dear, I hope they don't apply that across the board as I have a cheap printer and use cheap paper  and it's hit and miss as to wether my coupons scan. I have the same problem with Ryanair boarding passes sometimes too.

How do you counterfiet a coupon, other than photocopying which is easy to pick up surely?

    Hi All,
After my last entry, I emailed Tesco as I was fuming with them. Just got this email back from them.

    Dear Lucy

Thank you for your query regarding our Coupon Acceptance Policy.

I understand you have been having problems with our Monaghan store not manually inputting a barcode for a coupon.

Our acceptance policy states that if a coupon has a barcode it has to be scanned to be accepted. However, we do view inputting the barcode manually as exactly the same as scanning it, and as such the store should be attempting this.

The only time we would refuse a coupon with a barcode is if the code was put in to the till and it still wasn't accepted.

I have informed the store of this, and hopefully it won't happen again.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist you.

    Kind regards

    Ann-Marie Bunston

I shopped in Tesco Drogheda today, and had 3 of the Felix Catfood pigsback coupons. The person at the till implied they'd been photocopied (as it happened, one was in colour, the other 2 were in b&w, but all had been selected and printed individually) and was getting ready to reject them.

I pointed out the different voucher numbers, and they were accepted without further ado!
