Haha, I saw them lads, a bare bread bun with a few thin slices of meat on top, then asking people if they wanted onions... No thank you.

Has the inflatable Titanic in Eyre Square been put up to celebrate the yacht race?
    how apt?

or to put that another way, isn't that an odd symbol to use
    a) as an inflatable bouncy slide
& b) as part of a funfair which is presumably on to celebrate an oceangoing race.

I went to edit this to add a photo but I think I have to have the image online to do so and the only one I have was taken by me this afternoon when i saw the thing.

#VOR – Up to 200 sailing boats – including many traditional sailing craft – will take part in the dramatic "Parade of Sail" which is being staged in conjunction with the Volvo Ocean Race.

The fleet of 6 Volvo ocean racing yachts are now expected in Galway Bay late on Monday night ,July 2nd or early Tuesday morning, July 3rd.

The "Parade of Sail" is the traditional seafaring salute to the crews who have completed an epic ocean voyage. Boats, which are making their way to Galway from many parts of the

country, will join a fleet of local sailing boats and traditional Galway hookers ,currachs and fishing boats

Thirty boats from the Mayo Sailing Club left their base at Rossmoney, near Westport, today and are now on their way to Inishboffin where they will overnight. They will sail to the Aran Island's tomorrow and rendezvous with the parade of sail on Galway Bay.

The dramatic "Parade of Sail" will begin at the Blackrock Mark, off Salthill, at 4.30pm. The parade will be led by "The Green Dragon", Ireland's entry in the 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race. Smaller boats will join the parade at the Blackrock Diving Board. The flotilla will then make its way to the Harbour.

Parade of Sail co-ordinator, Pierce Purcell, said the series of events on the Bay on Sunday which will also include the Multihull Catamaran Championships and the traditional Galway Hooker Regatta, will be "the most fantastic turnout of boats ever seen on Galway Bay"

The Parade of Sail Organisers have issued the following instructions to participating boats.

All craft should allow sufficient time to be at the Blackrock Buoy area in time for a 4.30 start.

FLEET A. It is intended to let the powerboat fleet of participating pleasure boats, RIBS fishing boats start first in an orderly fashion spaced out in single file. This fleet will be led by a blue Garda RIB positioned in the middle of the start area at 4.29 pm.

FLEET B. Yachts in descending order size will set sail immediately after the powerboat fleet. This fleet will make its way inshore to Salthill along the Prom and around Mutton Island.

Fleet C. This fleet comprises of craft up to 4 metres, sailboards, currachs, dinghies and canoes will assemble near the diving tower at Salthill for 4.30.

FLEET D. The Galway Hooker Fleet will assemble after the last boat race is finished in the area between Galway Bay Hotel and Seapoint

FlEET E. The Junior Parade of Sail will launch at the Ocean Sports Club at 4.30.

SAIL PAST. 17.00 hours. A suitable yacht dressed overall will be moored off Nimmos Pier to welcome the fleet.

Might be a repeat of the jubilee - it's forecast to be wet tomorrow afternoon. I would of thought that it would of been better next weekend. Seems a bit daft to be welcoming the Volvo boats before they have arrived. It would also of entertained the crowds there for the inshore races.

I was looking forward to getting a quick listen of Jim McKee before heading to the tent to see Dara O'Briain.

They were 15 minutes late starting and then they had poxy politicians talk ****e so we left. Was so annoyed. How do politicians always find a way to arse about with your day?!

    Dara O'Briain was brilliant!

    The bridge looks dodgy.

The Kanyu Tree were great this evening. It's my fifth time to see them (twice in HMv then two gigs) and it was probably their best, tbh.

That Volvo "building" is amazing. It'd be a challenge to get on that driving simulator! The race village is excellent. I had a lovely walk through it today. The food smells amaaaazing. The Global Village is quite good. I expected more to be there, but there's still a lot. I loved that old technology museum. My friends and I (we're only teenagers) were amazed by the ancient Macs and computers :')

I really can't believe they managed to f up the bridge. I mean, really. Years of planning (okay, maybe they didn't play for years but they had the time) and thousands of euro, and they manage to mess it up and not have it open on the first day. I am surprised there wasn't an accident on Wolfe Tone. Oh, they could really do with putting down wood or something by those blue bridges!

Maverick was all I wanted and more :D He was amazing apart from his last song and a couple of scum at the front started a pit to a song that was far too slow to start moshing at. Couple of them started pushing a couple of girls I knew which pissed me off so had to get involved, not cool brah. Overall though quality night from everyone who performed

    Dara was great alright.

The old technology museum is out in NUIGs campus in Newcastle all year round.

That was such a fug up not having the bridge working. It was dodgy coming over Tone bridge after Dara tonight.

They start the global arena gigs sharpish too.mi was having a few beers and decided to just head over about 8. Just as well!

What was disgraceful as a matter of interest, was on High St for a large part of the night and didnt notice too much out of the ordinary.

What happened? FWIW I was going to head for a pint with a few friends on my way home after Dara. It was fairly wedged down by McDonaghs. One of the lads was in The House Hotel but the place was jammers so I gave it a miss as I had photographic equipment in my backpack and I didn't fancy it getting damaged or worse, nicked. The crowd were in good enough spirits at that stage though and the atmosphere was good. All I saw was one knacker and his skank in tow barging and shoving his way through the crowd because, obviously some more cans of Dutch Gold were needed ASAP!

I've no doubt with such a large crowd there were. Few incidents before the night was done. There were a few assholes out and about but they weren't doing any harm to anybody else at that stage.

We went through the Spanish Arch and down long walk and there were a lot of very drunk youngsters on show, pi..ed out of their minds lot of Garda there also. Is it me or is the crowd smaller than 2009, there was not the huge crowds associated with the last Volvo, I spoke to a guy seling food and he said so far its not very busy. I looked across at the swamp and it looked very quite, maybe not a good idea to seperate the event to different areas.

I was standing beside the younglads and was so tempted to crack one of them in the back of the head with my elbow!

You should of tbh, no different to what they were doing to each other. Had a friend of mine who is rather on the tall side have a chat with a couple of them ;) they were only in the middle of there teens I'd say.
I was on the right hand side of it (near the exit) and had to basically drag one the girls off the ground where a couple of them had knocked her over and basically stood on her. It's a shame I had to be looking after friends rather than enjoying the last 2 songs but ah well, still enjoyed it
