Hi all, am thinking of getting a lighter trigger for my Rem. 700 any thoughts as to where I would start looking?

My Father did not like the trigger on his Remmy. Could not adjust it below 3 pound. So i changed it out for a Rifle Basix LV-1 trigger kit.

It adjusts between 8 ounces (0.5 pound) - 24 ounces (1.5 pounds). It comes preset at 10 ounces, but he thought this a bit light so i changed it to 16 ounces (1 pound). Heavy enough that you have a good feel, but not too hevy to cause pull when firing.

Price was around the €100 mark IIRC.

I have a timney trigger on my 700 and love it, alot of people highly recommend them.

Forgot to mention, have had the pleasure of using a jewel trigger and they really are top notch but it depends on what you want.

My choice would be timney for stalking or jewel for target.

If you can stretch it, a Jewel is the way to go.

I agree with Hibrion about the Jewell. I think they are a class piece of kit.

Perhaps if lads could give the OP the make, and model they have, the adjustments of it, price, etc it might go a long way to helping him choose.

Not being a smart arse here, just rather than give him a load of names. For example Jewell triggers are a great trigger no doubt, but like the rifle Basix there are numerous makes, and models, and some that go from a few quid to €300.

Thanks lads. Just looking at the price difference between the different ones. The rifle is new (less than 1 year) and will probably be keeping it for many years so would like to go for the best, but extra $100s is a lot at the moment. I will have to mull it over

95% stalking and maybe the odd open shoot here and there.

    I have a Jewel HRV.
    It comes with 3 springs:
    Spring A: 8.0 to 56.0 oz.
    Spring B: 2.0 oz. to 16.0 oz.
    Spring C: 1.5 oz. to 3.0 oz.

I have the 'C' spring in for my FTR and is very light. It is always a crisp break and is always the same.
I am not sure on price though.

The timney trigger I have is costs around €120 I think. Can't remember what weight I have it set to as I got a gunsmith to fit it but its perfect for stalking ie light but not very light.

Very predictable break with zero trigger creep.. the trigger itself is also flat and wider that the stock trigger so very comfortable to use.

Did you get it done locally as I am in the Limerick area as well?

No I got it done above in Athlone off Fergal White. But remember at the time I rang Stakelums in Thurles and he said he would fit it for me so I presume other dealers would offer the same.

Triggers for a Remmy are easy as sin to install. All in all, stripping stock, removing old trigger, and installing new one, and replacing stock should take at most 20 minutes. If in doubt ask the RFD to help/do it, but it really is easy to do. Just a bit finickity, but easy enough.

Couldn't give you exact models of the jewel, but I know the one's I've used have seemed a bit nicer than the Timney I had on my Remmy; which cost about 120 new too. They are really easy to instal. Just take your time and you will be fine doing it yourself.

I didn't get on well with the Remmy at all, so I changed it for a Tikka.

In honesty I probably can well do it, But if someone was local get him to do it. But Athlone or Thurles, I'd have if done quicker than it would take to get there.

Thanks for that, I love the Remmy. Was looking at a Tikka in Knocknagoshal but thought it too heavy for lugging up and down hills.

By RFD i mean Registered Firearms Dealer. As in any lad in a gunshop should know. Gunsmith/builder not really needed unless, as you said, it's close, and/or you're not sure.

I have a Timney on a Remington for several years now. Relatively easy to fit and a huge improvement on the factory trigger. Can't remember the exact price but was around €100 mark.

I have the exact same trigger on my remmy and can't fault it.
mine is set at 18oz and is very consistent
I bought it direct from www.riflebasix.com

i don't suppose you can remember roughly how expensive they were on the shipping?

Thanks for all the replies. Have not decided yet which one but am leaning towards the Rifle Basix or the Timney. I suppose it depends which one will post to me as some sites say no shipping outside the US
