    Hi all,

To prevent a proliferation of threads on the subject, and in keeping with tradition here in the cricket forum, I'm starting the discussion thread for IPL 2012. Let the discussions commence! ;)

    Come on RCBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB.......

Miracle to see us having such a good team after what happened in first auction. Can't wait to see Gayle, De Villiers, Dilshan, Kohli all in one team with Vettori leading them. We have good team but as usual Chennai will win imo.

Will be having a couple of quid on KKR again this year, surely they are due this year? Plus they are coached by the inventor of the clockwork radio and named after a show about a tallking car driven by the Hoff.

Edit: Ah, apparently the coach didn't invent anything at all that we know of and the team aren't named after KIT, but still, Go on the Knight Riders!!!

Hopeful about the chargers this year, especially if steyn takes his test ability into the shorter form. Sort of worried about aspects, like can Darren bravo play t20 like he can play test cricket, and will rusty step up, especially with Isshant out. Mishra was great last year, more of the same, and duminy and patel, aswell as chipli, have the ability. Dan christian is another great T20 player.

    Potential.

    1. Gayle
    2. Dilshan
    3. Kohli
    4. De Villiers
    5. S. Tiwary
    6. Mayank Agarwal/Pujara
    7. Vettori
    8. Vinay Kumar
    9. Syed
    10. Zaheer
    11. Mithun

Problem with the team is Gayle, Dilshan, De Villier are very very important players and Vettori is our captain. So I can't see any other foreign players getting chances.
We have Murali and Nannes who are very good bowlers. Might struggle to strike a good balance. Just a player or 2 (Local players) short of having very good team.

Hey guys, Don't you think that I.P.L. is loosing it's charm? Do we have so much time to watch it for 54 days?

It was never the be all and end all for me, I prefer English county cricket, one dayers and T20 (but thats what I was brought up on, so not surprising) and international cricket. Saying that, ANY cricket on free tv is always a winner, since Sky snapped up most cricket, ITV4 showing the IPL gives us without loads of money a chance to watch some exciting cricket. It is too long a tournament format for me but I wont look a gift horse in the mouth! Just about to start now!

Absolute mauling this afternoon, (the score makes it look closer than it actually was.) Chennai will bounce back, Mumbai should kick on.

This young levi chap looks, well, strong. Only a matter of time (probably by the next match) that teams realise he only plays on the on side and panics at the sight of a ball outside off stump.

Realised today that chennai and mumbai have two very different ways of approaching the game: Chennai have some quality all rounders (bravo, morkel, jadeja), while Mumbai have great specialist batsmen and bowlers. Pollard (and maybe Franklin) are exceptions, but it's interesting. Which is the better tactic? Guess it depends on how you value bowling in T20.

Knight Riders get their campaign started today, against Dehli. Not much to choose between the two going by last years average performances.

Noticed no Aussie TV broadcasters picked it up this year. Its very hit and miss. At times its a retiring cricketer pension fund more than a competition.

Oh great. I'm from Bangalore :D

Yeah Delhi will be some team but IMO Chennai and Mumbai are easily better than any team out there.

Mumbai Indians are the team for me. The players they have, class and that is even after losing today. (levi, hero first day, not so good today) Like kkR because of Morgan but Mumbai is the team.
Love the league, love 20/20, love seen legends of the game, ( I have not got Sky Sports) love the atmosphere of the games, love its free on tv, 54 days is not to long for me. Love the IPl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Rahene is class isn't he? Lovely innings today and looking at his monster first class stats in domestic cricket, I could see him opening in all formats sooner rather than later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

I feel for anyone who missed Steyn's over. Amazing bowler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Dale was superb today, pleased because he has never quite clicked in 20/20.

Sadly for Dale, some poor bowling from everyone else let him down. Daniel Christian bowling the last over was always risky. Not sure why Deccan aren't playing Duminy either, much better player than White these days who despite some runs is nowhere near as destructive as he was a few years ago.

Great innings for Rohit to win it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭B1gft

Who ever tells you cricket is boring, should see that game.

Steyns was pure class. Surprised and delighted they did not keep him to bowl the last over. My man of the match

Sharma showed his class and coolness.

A perfect way to spend a bank holiday monday.

It is so odd that almost ever team has a West Indian star player but their national team is so poor. They have got superb talent shame about the issues with board and contract issues. If they play for the team, they will up there with the best fighting for the top spot.

    Chennai
    Bravo

    Deccan
    Darren Bravo

    Delhi
    Andre Russell

    KKR
    Sunil Narine

    Mumbai
    Pollard

    Pune
    Samuels

    Rajasthan
    Cooper

    Bangalore
    Gayle

All very good ODI players and I'm counting players playing in IPL only.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

Will Morgs get a game at KKR:confused:

Kevin Pietersen's first Twenty20 century taken the DD to a 5 wicket victory over DC as they moved to the top of the IPL.
While DC suffered their 4th consecutive loss & stayed at the bottom of the table with no points. Really great match!

West Indian team (please correct me if I am wrong) have talent coming out their ears, but they are from different Islands and they just dont click together as a team, (normally) as there would be no love lost between the Islands. I think its only cricket that they join together and are known as the west Indias.

    Booth
I think if he was going to get a game, he would have by now. How different a year can make.

Yeah they are from different islands, even when they were dominating cricket it was same isn't it.

Even now they will play together if not for the contract issues, it is such a shame that Gayle wont be playing international cricket.

I am delighted he is not in the t20 world cup, we are in the same group as them.
Does malinga play with them, I have an idea he does not, but could be wrong. Malinga and Gale on the same team would beat the best of them.

The West Indian Team in the 1970s and 1980s was from different islands and countries too. I don't think they have a talented crop at all, one day talent who sell their skills to the highest bidder but suspect at international and Test match level perhaps. Of course the WI Board couldn't run a piss up in a brewery if they tried doesn't help. NBA is frequently blamed for there lack of fast bowlers these days but I can't think of too many famous WI basketball players.

enjoying it, ITV4 decided not to show it today so went online

Caught the end of the Delhi game, Rajasthan made the classic mistake of leaving a little to much to do in the last few overs, Morne Morkel is not someone you really want to have to do much against.

Delhi probably should drop Taylor and play Russell who will bulk their bowling and can smash it miles himself.

Ganguly wastes too many balls at the top and leaves Steve Smith too much to do at the end......that's been the story of Pune Warriors IPL so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

What will all the IPL bashers in the English media have to say about this?....

Great finish to the Kings XI Punjab at Bangalore game. Punjab needed 6 from 12 and absolutely self destruced, had 3 crazy run outs in the next over, 2 of them in particular were absolute madness. Eventually Punjab needed 2 from 2 and Bangalore pushed everyone in the field up but the Punjab batter smashed a six straigth down the ground.

Also Chris Gayle was unreal again. He hit a 6 that cleared the stadium, straight out of the stadium. Ridiculous.

I think it would be great, but I think there is to many purest in power that will stop it. I have a very good friend (Irish) who has being to three world cups but thinks the IPL is not cricket, he says its a circus, so imagine what the powers to be in England would say.

When the IPL started many said it wouldn't last more than a couple of years!....Ponting and Ganguly in KKR team just 2 months after the 'monkeygate' series of 2008.....Clarke and Ganguly batting together the other night for Pune!!.....Bhajji and Symo in the same team last year!!....KP and Sehwag whacking the ball all over the place the other night against the Royals...the list is endless.....it makes for fascinating cricket and if it is a circus so be it !!

Personally , I think it (that is an English Premier League along the lines of the IPL) will happen pretty soon now that the players association want it

I can't see why T20 and Test cricket cannot co-exist - even in England - after all they invented T20 and the ECB once went crawling to the likes of Stanford!

Daniel Christian must be the most overrated all rounder I have ever seen in 20/20, he may have bowled tidily for once today but for someone who is supposed to be a good all rounder and you would assume he is when you consider his insane price tag, he can't bat for toffee. Amount of times he has failed for them at the death is ridiculous.

If roles had been reversed and chennai needed 20 of the last over and he was bowling, well Deccan would have been ****ed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

Kumar's slump so far has been awful hasn't it? Parthiv is India's second choice keeper with lots of experience so I suppose he trusts him. Although judging from anything I have seen in this IPL and his few appearances from India, I'm not hugely impressed. :pac:

Actually just looked at the scoreboard, Christian went for nearly 9 an over and his 1 wicket that Dhoni somehow missed. Earned his money today!

Duminy should be in the side but its to late now isn't it?

Totally agree.....Dan Christian's rubbish......another over-rated overseas player who somehow attracts millions from a franchise (no doubt) influenced by his fellow Australian coach!

Did he not get creamed for about 21 in the last over by Rohit Sharma the other night against the Mumbai Indians after Steyn had bowled an exceptional 19th over to keep DC in the game

The other guy who has been rubbish all tournament is Ganguly.....he should resign as Pune captain NOW....when he still has some dignity left!....he's probably going to prove me wrong today but I can't see that happening!! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

Wot an atmosphere at Kolkata.....home of Dada and the noise level went up when he took that catch.....can he make some runs today!

Nice to see Morgs today..warming the bench as usual for KKR!

Shame he is not playing the England tests when you consider how clueless England can look against quality spinners.:(
