My friend will be going out the end of april and she said to do the same head out before i get the visa, only one problem though when the visa arrives to my house in ireland what do i do then? Ill have to leave and re enter the country will I?

I have a friend in london i was half thinking of going over there for a bit while i wait for the visa bt Its soooo expensive and the exchange rate is a killer

Toronto :) my friends cousin is there.

Awh no your visa comes by email so its perfect, you'll have to leave Canada were going into America and then when you re enter you get your visa and thats when your year starts :) Were going out to wait for it and try to see as much as we can.
Same here, cant wait to go now!! :)

I did mine through go4less too but it won't be sent out until Monday cos of a mistake. My friends are talking about heading out at the end of May but I might leave it a bit later cos I don't wanna spend all my money waiting for the Visa to come through.

Does anyone know how tricky it would be to get the work permit while in Canada if we do decide to travel over before we get it??

Hiya, your visa comes by email so you can be in Canada you just have to leave Canda and re enter. Were going into America for a few days.
If you only have a one way flight you need proof of funds so bring your bank statement showing you have enough money :)

There is no deadline, when the visa's run out then its too late to apply!
Your visa will be refused if you have done anything which is considered a jail-able offence in canada.

    Hi all,

I'm in Toronto did this last year n applied again last week for 2nd year visa. Here's what I did:

I didn't activate my visa until I had a job as I didn't want to waist months of my visa (yes it can take months if ur looking for a career not just any job). Entered as a tourist but had a return ticket within the 6months.

I got 2year ins with backpackers and my own flights usit are a rip off. The orientation is pointless- there's loads of Irish here just join a community before you come n people will help you get sorted.

Toronto is expensive I would say 5 months not working, apt right downtown costs 10k- but alot of money was spent on social events to build a network n get a job!

I rented a fully furnished apt for 3months before I arrived so my bf n I just went straight there when we arrived so didn't spend crazy money on hotels n gave us time to suss out our budget n look at other places. We actually ended up taking the apt for the year as the location is perfect.

Good luck to all the new arrivals youll love it here, it's a great country
Thanks for the useful info. Just wondering when you did activate your visa did they ask you for proof of funds? Heard that you need a stamped statement from your bank to prove the funds are there, and that the statement can be no older than 2 weeks?!!!

I was in Canada three months before I activated mine at the Washington border, no questions were asked except how was my summer going

We were planning on doing a quick trip down to Mexico and activate the second visa on the way back.. vacation time (not the trip itself yet) is booked for first week in May and first visa expires May 4.. pretty good chance we'll have the LOI by then.. but what if we dont? Im worried they will give my a boyfriend a hard time when he's trying to get back in.. also the main purpose of the trip is to be able to renew his visa.. not sure what to do!

    Just keep the fingers crossed

I've a similar problem, trip back to Ireland planned for June, might not have my visa by then (might not get it) so stuck kind of in limbo

Why wouldnt you get the visa? 18 month rule?? That sucks - are you going to go regardless? I think we decided tonight to just risk it and book the trip.. altho my bf is a lot less of a worrier than me. ;) But i guess they would let him back in as a visitor if we explained the situatio.. would bring proof of funds, and maybe a copy of the last correspondance with the iec..?

I hope somebody can help me. I sent my forms in last month by registered post and got confirmation that they arrived on the 16th March. My friends who sent theirs just after mine have received their email confirmation two weeks ago!! I have not received anything, I just checked my forms and realised I left out my email address on one of them but have it on the other form. Will this mean my forms get rejected? I sent an update of information by email but have heard nothing!!! Such a stupid mistake but a mistake all the same. Can anybody help or does anybody have any insight? I have not received my forms back so therefore can not resubmit my Garda clearance etc.....
    (Sorry for the long post)

My payment deadline is tomorrow. I paid on the day I received conditional acceptance. I have heard absolutely nothing regarding confirmation of payment. Should I be worried? I presume that since I haven't received confirmation of payment that I can expect to be rejected and have to start this whole fúcking process again? This is beyond a joke now.

Did you pay from Canada or Ireland? We paid from Canada on April 2 and haven't received confirmation of payment either - but the holidays have probably messed it up a bit. :(

From Dublin. Not one moment of this entire process has gone smoothly and without stress.

Go to your bank or ring them and get them to trace the payment its likely that your payment reference changed when it went into their account which is what happened me.I got my bank to trace payment and then e-mailed the iec and told them what happened they mailed back and asked for the new reference as it appeared in their account and i got it sorted it has happened a lot of people. How id you pay?

    Hey --

Anyone who has paid from Canada - how long did it take to receive confirmation of payment? We sent ours April 2 and still haven't received anything... however if you include the holidays it would have only gave it 4-5 business days.

    Thanks!

I paid with cash and I have already asked my bank to trace the payment to the Canadian account which they refused to do saying that they could not divulge information about other accounts.

FINALLY, after 5 weeks of waiting for his LOI from payment receipt, my hubby got it....they said his security settings blocked the email from IEC but that is rubbish as he uses GMail, like i did. So his LOI was actually issued on the 6th March like mine, 5 weeks of unnecessary stress......relief now though as we fly in 5 weeks!! :)

Thats rubbish they are giving information on where your payment has gone, you should be entitled to know where your payment is gone.

    Hey Bananarep!

How is it exactly that you activate your visa? My boyfriend sent his visa app. 3 weeks after mines and I haven't even been asked for payment yet and we have flights booked to leave in 5 weeks time. He had thought he could enter as a tourist then have his visa posted out when it arrives. I wasn't sure if you could do this ?
Also did you have to apply in advance for a tourist visa?
This whole process has been a nightmare...

Hey, i sent my first IEC visa application off, and was received by the London Canadian Embassy on the 19th of March and i haven't heard anything yet. Hoping i'll get a confirmation receipt by Monday making it four weeks since they would of received it in their offices. I'm so worried as i am meant to be starting a job in Canada on the 5th of June. I'm Clearly not going to get there in time. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh WORST MOST STRESSFUL THING EVER ESPSH WHEN YOUR IN THE MIDDLE OF EXAMS AND COURSEWORK IN YOUR SECOND YEAR OF UNI :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Niamh84

It seems like they're not been processed in order. Myself and my boyfriend originally sent them 4th Feb. I first received mine back on 22nd March saying they couldnt scan barcodes. Boyfriends came back with same problem a few days later. We both re-posted them back. mine the 26th march, his a few days later. i received my confirmation of receipt email 2nd april. I was astonished it was so quick after the intial 5 week wait to hear anything when i sent them in feb. but my boyfriend is still waiting on confirmation of receipt. most stressful situation ever. last year was so much easier.

I got my conditional acceptance email on April 3rd. I made the wire transfer one hour later from Vancouver. I scanned and emailed the wire transfer slip to the IEC in London aswell as emailing my forms. I contacted the AIB in Dublin a few days later and they confirmed it as being received and they also sent me a screenshot which displayed my full wtn number aswell as my date of birth and full name. I emailed that to the iec too and still no reply. My question is, I haven't heard if they found it or not and this Sunday is my 12 day deadline. During the 12 day period there were 2 weekend and 2 bank holidays amounting to 6 days off for them. Does anyone know if they refuse for non payment after the 12 days even if they find it on a later date and find out that I sent it within the 12 day period?? Thanks in advance!

    Hi there!

How did you get the info from the aib about receiving the transfer? Name and acct # or? My boyfriend paid from edmonton on april 2 and also hasnt recieved conformation of payment - id say they are just behind (surprise surprise). I also saw on the british expats forum that a girl who paid from ireland on april 2nd just got her receipt today - a day after her due date. You should be fine

@ lindzation.. I called the AIB on 01 6713011. Explained that I needed conformation that they got my transfer and I had a complete b@tch barking at me that "they couldn't give me that info" before I even finished explaining. So I asked politely to speak to her manager and got my full speel in, she then put me through to International transfers. The guy was really nice, said he had found my payment and called back my full wtn number which was correct. I kindly asked him if he could email me confirmation and I was shocked that he sent me a full screenshot with all the wire details displayed. I sent this onto the IEC to assist them with matching my payment with my application. Hope this helps and keep the feedback coming! Best of luck!
