    Last Year's thread
    Race Course
    Last Year's Results

A bit of advance notice for this year's Leixlip 5k - We are holding it again the first saturday in May and plan to have a bigger and better event this year!! We are going to add chip timing this year to enable us to provide quicker turnaround in producing the full list of results, for what we believe will be a larger field this year.

Last year's event received 5 stars from 90% of respondents and the remainder rated it as a 4 star event. Some of then comments included in last's years thread are:
    • "Yes great race, it was my first time doing it and I'm really glad I did."
    • "brillant race this morning, well organised and executed, and the spread of food that would put a farmers market to shame"
    • "A real 5 star race. Good course, well marshalled, great finishing area, lots of food & water and a really good family atmosphere at the finish line."
    • "Le Cheile put on a great show today, really professional set up. Friendly, supportive atmosphere, well marshalled"
    • "Overall another very good race organised by a club, club races always seem better organised."
    • "Fantastic race, superbly organised. Very impressive. Great atmosphere in the finishing area."
    • "Can't praise this event enough"
    • "Great event and my first ever race and was delighted with my time."

Online entry will open soon and entries will be taken on the day (for an increased entry fee) If you have any questions, please ask.

Heartly recommend this to anyone, great event, cracking fast course in my mind and when the pain kicks in, just think of the cakes/buns/sweets/cakes etc at the finishing line that await you:D

Pacing Limerick though the following day will mean that i'll only have second helpings.

Hi Vain - as UM1 said - you will be more than welcome and be one of the many first timers competing - there are also a number of walkers expected so I can pretty much guarantee that you till not be on your own......looking forward to seeing you on the 5th :)

This race will also form part of the Kildare 5k Road Race series. Full details will be announced shortly, but suffice it to say that there will be a nice choice of top quality 5k events in kildare starting with this one!! :)

Doing Belfast on the Monday but would love to do this one as it literally goes past my door. I know its pushing it two days before the marathon but generally I don't feel anything after short fast runs (up to 10k). What do boardsies think?

I wouldn't chance it, after training for a marathon I think it would be madness to do a 5k race 2 days beforehand. Although you could just jog around it , enjoy the atmosphere and the cake after (think it might count as carb loading :p)

With Dunore cancelled, and leaving for a week to Ukraine with work the next day I think this will have to be pencilled into my calender too if I can figure out logistics :)

    Right so…who's running this weekend?

I'm attempting the elusive sub 20… I'ts a huge ask (5k pb is 20:29 from MSB in March) but I might as well shoot for the stars..! Will keep chasing it in the hopes of getting it by the end of the year in any event! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Esto Fidelis

claralara best of luck with your sub 20. I just started running this year and so far have only done the op trans 5k run in the park. I done this in 32.5 mins and as I said have not done any race since. I use imap my run and have done 28.3 as my best so far. What I am wondering is would this event suit a novice like me and is it still open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,545 ✭✭✭tunguska

    Heres the route:

Gas at the end, off the road and into a field. Like the opening credits of police squad.

I did this run last year and I'm a similar pace to you. I would highly recommend it. I was nervous that a club organised run would be at a very fast pace but you can see from the results that it was a wide range:http://www.lecheileac.com/files/2011_Leilxip_5k_Prov_Reuslts.pdf Not sure if it still open but the runireland link looks like it is. You could always register on the day although it is more expensive. A couple of things that I liked were finishing on the athletic track (as I'll never be a serious competitive runner, it's a bit of a thrill!) and the cakes afterwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Esto Fidelis

hollypink thanks for your reply, yeah that sounds good finishing on the track. I run twice a week and the gym twice too so as you can see I am not a serious runner just doing it for the weight loss/fitness. And these cakes are getting a great review so might be worth it for the cakes alone. Thanks again.

Still thinking about this after rough 10k the other day, fancy a go at 5k before I head off on work trip for a week :)

Awh man! I don't fancy my chances of a strong sprint finish on that grass.

And what's with those massive red hills all over the course?! ;)

Definitely go for it! These races are friendly and open to people at all levels. You have to start somewhere. I was that 28 minute soldier less than a year ago and it's a great experience. Just make sure you don't find yourself starting too far forward in the way of the awesome guys running insane 16 minute times! Best of luck! :)

Was in the park today and attempted to run on the grass for a bit........Not a chance. Hopefully there'll be a big dry out between now and then, otherwise it'll be the annual bog sprinting championships.

I'm really looking forward to this on Saturday. Back in my home town, never ran there before. But in all honesty the cakes are the real incentive!

Good luck with the sub 20 Claralara, been reading your log and it looks like it's in your grasp.

With the rain they're giving for Thursday and Friday, i'ld say to head into lane 3 and run the track section out there. The ground there and further out will be in better nick than lane 1 at least.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,818 ✭✭✭nerraw1111

One of the best races I ran last year, great value.

    When do online entries close?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭lecheile

Don't worry about the rain guys - we'll make sure it doesn't spoil the fantastic finish :) entries will be open online until Friday ( I'll confirm the exact time closer to the time )

Also this year we will have chip timing for the first time, provided by Red Tag Timing. It's starting to get exciting now :) we had to inform the ESB and Bord Gais to support the extra demand as ovens have been used around the clock to support the baking!!!

Track in great DRY condition - just cut it this morning in the Leixlip sun :) there is slight surface water on the field in the approach to the track, but that should be sorted by Saturday morn.

According to the flyer, registration closes at 10:30am and registration is at the club-house, which if I'm correct, should be right here.
