Dunboyne through to the senior final with a low scoring win over Donaghmore Ashbourne.

Pat's survive with a big win against Moylagh. So that's three northern clubs in Ballinlough, Syddan and Moylagh relegated to Junior.

Think Tones could very well pull off a shock tomorrow. They're banging in the goals and we're vulnerable without Conor McGill and possibly Ben Wyer in the full back line. I'd assume Éamonn Wallace is also out. All set for the underdog story.

My bad on that one, don't know what made me think it was O'Mahonys beat them!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭rpurfield

Moylagh were very poor today, played with a strong wind in the first half and kicked one point, missed two goal chances though. Never looked like they could trouble us in the second half. We were solid enough, I'm just hoping we can kick on and be more competitive next season as its three down again next season. I still think if we had got out of the Bective game with a win we would've had the confidence to kick on in the group this year though.

Ratoath beaten by Tones. Not our day by the sounds of it with injuries but Tones deserved it by all accounts.

    Who were ratoath short?

Conor McGill and Ben McGowan were out. Joey Wallace went off injured after 15 minutes. Éamonn Wallace was only fit enough to come off the bench in the second half. With players travelling as well, we didn't have the depth we did in previous seasons.

Big win for Ballinabrackey to stay up. It means that one of Navan O'Mahonys (who dominated in the 2010s) and Dunshaughlin (who are the last club to win 3 in a row) will be playing Intermediate in 2022.

I knew mcgill was out , what happened mcgowan?

They are big losses to be fair

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Not sure what happened McGowan. Doesn't bode well for the hurlers either.

It's Trim and Oldcastle in the IFC final. It's Trim's 3rd final in a row and you'd expect they should finally make the leap back to senior (it's 10 years since they were relegated). But Oldcastle seem to be living a charmed life this season. They had the crazy comeback against Meath Hill, a late equalizer in the last group game against Walterstown and Rathkenny supposedly missed a heap of goal chances against them. So maybe they're luck is in.

Dunsany through to another Junior final with a big win over Carnaross on Friday evening. This will be their sixth since the turn of the century without having won one. They'll play Vincent's (a repeat of last season's semi final) who themselves have lost 2 of the last 3 finals. Should be an intriguing game. Dunsany were unable to breach Vincent's blanket defence last year so I can't see it being a high scoring match. But Dunsany seem to have a bit more about them this season so I'd be tipping them to finally win their first junior championship.

Drumcree and Boardsmill both through to the Intermediate hurling semi finals, easily beating Kildalkey and Ratoath's second teams respectively.

RIP Snitchy Ferguson. Won All Irelands with Dublin before moving to Kells, winning two Keegan Cups with Gaeil Colmcille and managing the Meath footballers and hurlers. His son, Terry, was obviously a big part of Boylan's team in the late 80s/early 90s, winning three All Irelands and one All Star.

Dunshaughlin down to intermediate with a whimper. NOM survive with a 1-13 to 4 points win. Dunshaughlin were only 1 point down when they went down to 14 after 15 minutes. It's the second game in a row they've had to play a man down for at least a full half. This red card was thanks to two yellows within a couple of minutes.

I listened to it on the We Are Meath commentary, they didn't raise a gallop. Its a strange one as they have some really talented footballers coming through.

As someone born and raised in Athboy near the Westmeath border and now has lived for 20 years in Ashbourne near the Dublin border that sign is a disgrace.

If anything people living near the border are even more committed to their county in my opinion as they would have a friendly rivalry and slagging going on with friends, relatives, workmates and classmates. You would never hear the end of it if you lost.

How would Wolf Tones feel if someone said lets beat those Cavan boys?

Trim finally come good, easily winning the Intermediate football championship against Oldcastle, 3-12 to 0-7.

Vincent's win the Junior championship in what sounded like a dire contest against Dunsany, 1-4 to 0-6. Dunsany have now played in 6 junior finals since the turn of the century. Thought they would have had enough having lost in almost identical circumstances to Vincent's last season.

Super win from Trim. They certainly look a more complete outfit compared to the last two years. They were much the better team on the day but had to rely on a double save from the goalie early on to stop Oldcastle from getting the start that they needed. Trim shot selection not the best at times and it could have cost them in a closer game. All in all Trim should be competitive at senior and be competitive in most games.

And Tones defy the odds again to win their first Keegan Cup since 2006. Tones' goal early on was always going to be massive as Dunboyne could never get ahead afterwards. They drew level a couple of times in the first half and got back to within a point with 20 minutes left but then didn't score again until injury time. You'd have to question Dunboyne with all their quality how they could only manage 9 points in both the semi final and the final.

Tones now play the winners of the Dublin Senior final, Kilmacud Croke or St. Judes in the Leinster championship.

Dunboyne did manage to coast to the Ladies' senior title so a little consolation for them.

The official man of the match went to Shane Glynn and the lads on the stream gave it to Saran O'Fionnaghain but I thought Cian Ward was the stand out. He was everywhere and his experience really came into play, you could see him slowing things down to burn out the black card for ten minutes and the same at the end when they needed a cool head.

Absolutely delighted for cian ward. What a player so under rated. A really special talent

Grand day out in Navan. Vikki Wall the pick of the bunch. You could throw her into some mens games and she wouldn't look out of place. Some fine goals scored in that game too.

Bit disappointed with the mens final. Wolfe Tones full value for the win imo and once they got the goal it never really looked in any doubt. Dunboyne more like athletes and tacticians while Tones played all the football. Cian Ward and Thomas O Reilly the stand out players for me.

You’re taking what is a bit of banter a bit serious there. I also don’t think you’ll see too many Cavan jerseys round Gibbstown but you’ll see plenty of Dublin jerseys around Dunboyne.

Great win for Mick McDermott from Cavan managing the Tones. At one stage in Cavan, he was managing Ramor at Senior & Butlersbridge at intermediate at the one time!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭celt262

Yep and he got ran out of the Bridge ridiculous carry on just to get a few euro.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

To be fair, that's more than just "banter". It is insulting to any Meath GAA person who comes from near the border with Dublin. And it's utterly moronic given where Meath's most successful manager comes from.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

There's a big difference between the Dunboyne that Sean Boylan was born into and Dunboyne now. Wasn't it Ashbourne Credit Union that congratulated Dublin on winning Sam last year?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

And? It hasn't moved anywhere. It's still a Meath town with proud Meath people (including Seán Boylan) living there. Resorting to calling Dunboyne "Dubs" is moronic, and that's being kind. Teams near the border with Dublin (e.g. Ratoath, Dunboyne, Ashbourne, Colmcilles, Curraha) account for a huge chunk of the Meath panel over the last few years. And Meath

Yes, Ashbourne credit union did come out with that muck a couple of years back. And I still remember the uproar from it, especially from their own Brian Menton who was captaining the Meath team at the time.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Vikki Wall awarded player of the year. And Meath end up with 8 All Stars which caps an extraordinary 12 months for the ladies.

Kiltale surprisingly comfortable in making it to the senior hurling final, beating Ratoath by 15. Think the efforts of the last 2 years has finally caught up with Ratoath. The effort that's gone into making the latter stages of the senior football and hurling championships in each of the last 3 seasons has taken its toll with 9 of yesterday's hurling team also featuring with the senior footballers.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

St. Colmcille's are minor football champions again after beating Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-12 to 1-8. This was Cille's 6th minor final in the last 8 years and their third championship in that time. They'll surely be a force in Senior in the next 5-10 years.

Kildalkey gained revenge on Trim for last year's smash and grab in the semi final, winning by 8.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,249 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

Luke Dempsey takes the vacant Gaeil Colmcille job. For a club that allegedly are struggling with funds, I can't see him being cheap.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Boardsmill win the Intermediate Hurling championship after coming back from the dead to force extra time against Drumree and then taking over in extra time.

St. Vincent's were soundly beaten by the Louth Junior Champions Glen Emmets in the Leinster Junior championship.

Trim will be up against St. Fechins of Louth in Ashbourne on Wednesday evening in the Leinster Intermediate championship.

Kildalkey senior hurling champions again. Game was probably a lot closer than it should have been. Kiltale only managed 2 points in the first half and their two second half goals kept the margin respectable.

Ratoath finally got over the line in the minor hurling final beating the Kells/Kilskyre amalgamation Loughcrew Gaels by 6 in the final. It's Ratoath's first minor hurling title since 1969.
