    Hi all, I am new to this so I was hoping some one may give me some advice on this question. I want to get into some target shooting so I am looking at some .22LR rifles but I have been offered a nice .22WMR anschutz at a good price would this do for plinking and some target shooting, I guess i will start at 50m and work up but is this too powerful for what i want. I have been into clay shooting for a good while but would like to give target shooting a go. Do most clubs insist on LR or is it just any rimfire rifle?. I have been plinking with some friends for a while and really enjoy it so its time to buy a gun for the job. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:confused:

    I was in the same position as you a while back. I asked the lad here what they thought would be best and they all said the .22lr mainly because it's so cheap to shoot. The wmr is a good round but expensive for plinking. With the lr you can get 500 rounds of Winchester super X for 50e for hunting or federal value pack 525 rounds for 30e for plinking compare that to the prices of wmr ammo. Also it's virtually silent with a mod, the wmr isn't. that would only really matter If you were hunting though.
    Lads here recommended a cz 452 .22lr so I went and I looked at one in the rfd's bought it and haven't looked back.
    Hope this helps, good luck with it anyway lad.

    Thanks Alan, tried a few CZ452 but the stock seamed a little shorter on them, might have only been the two i tried. Really liked the feel of the Anschutz but I will take your advice on board about mod. Are rifle stocks like shotgun stocks, all different lengths/fit or is there generally a standard length. when i was getting into clays all I heard was gun fit, gun fit, gun fit. haven't seen that so much in this thread but i guess its much the same, what you think fits best will more than likely shoot best.

    Stay with .22lr rifles only. For competition rules, range restrictions, etc you will get futher with a .22lr than any other rimfire.

    Have a read here.

    ............ and here.

    That explains quickly about BR model rifles, gear, setup, etc. These are usually the best introduction to smallbore rifle target shooing. Inexpensive, chea to run, and cheap to get setup for.

    Any .22lr will do as a starter rifle. I shot with a cheap CZ from 16 onwards, and won a few comps along the way. Finished my BR days shooting with this;

    This should give you a few starting tips, then come back and ask more specific questions if you have a model or make in mind.

    It's only to show what you can build up to. I started off, as said above, with a bog standard CZ .22lr.

    Have a read of those threads, and do a search for more. They will give you all the info you need. Also might help you decide which type of target shooting you want to do.
