    Yes.

    Nice short answer :D

You need to let your old station know you're moving and your new station know you're moving in. Your licence is contingent on secure storage, so if you're moving house, you may have to have the new gunsafe inspected by the local CPO. The licence details then get amended using an FCA2 form.

Good to know, should I apply for a second gun befor I move or does it make a difference?

It shouldn't, but I'd do it anyway. You're a known quantity in the old station; not so much in the new. Coming in with two licences might be easier than arriving with one and looking for another on your first day...

Sorry for off topic, but I have a question maybe somebody can answer, I am changing my shotgun(like for like), Do you have to fill in all the form or just the subsution part only. Thank You

For a substitution you need an FCA1 and use:
    • Section 1 - Tick substitution, and "I have not held a cert............".
    • Section 2 - All of it.
    • Section 2.4 - All of it.
    • Section 3.1 - Input the details of new gun here.
    • Section 3.3 - Dealers details.
    • Section 3.4 - Input your current firearm details here.
    • Section 3.5 - All of it.
    • Section 4.1 - All of it.
    • Section 4.2 - All of it.
    • Section 4.3 or 5.2 - Depending on whether you are a member of a range (4.3) or gun club (5.2).
    • Section 5.1 - All of it.
    • Sign and date it.
Include the 2 photos as some stations ask for it and others do not so better to be sure. Also fill in a seperate piece of paper with the extra information as required in certain sections.

Its becoming more and more common for certain districts to ask for almost all info to be filled in on the FCA1 even if only doing a sub. Best to fill them in, and send it off to prevent any returns looking for more info. The only things you definitely don't need are the doctor details, and referees.

How long should it take for a substitution licence, Got a letter last week saying it could take 3 months to give a reply, surely this is not right if it is only a substitution (like for like).

Thats the standard response letter. You should receive the actual license within a week. No grant btw just the license.

    Hi,

I moved house recently but my firearm is stored constantly in my mothers house. Do I have to have my licence amended to show my new address even though my previous address (thats on the licence) was not where I had the firearm in the first place.

The Guards know that I was keeping it at a different address to my own when I got it.

    Thanks.

AFAIK the firearm is meant to be kept at the address that is on your license, there is a section on the application to fill out if you don't keep it where you live

Thanks but as i said in my post the Gardai know i keep it at a separate address. What i need to know is, if the firearm remains at the same address permanently but i move house, do i need to get the address on my licence changed everytime ?

The licence is made out in the address where i live. Or in this case where i used to live.

For security reasons (monitored alarm etc.) the Gardai were happy to let me store it in my mothers house. The CPO was out and all is fine. When the new 3 year licence came out I provided my living address and the address where the firearm was being stored. The Firearm cert was subsequently issued with my living address, not where the rifle is stored. I've since moved so i'm wondering do I need to amend my licence or is it ok once the storage situation doesn't change.

    Thanks again.

    Short answer is yes.

Inform the Gardai of every change of adress whether that is where you live, or where the firearms are stored if, like in your situatiob, the firearms are not stored at your residence.

    similar question
I'm thinking of changing from a .177 air rifle to a .22 .Do I need a gunsafe and if so can I use a neighbours gunsafe or would there be implications for them.
    regards

Legally you should have a safe already. You couldn't use a neighbours safe unless they were licenced on the rifle too.
