Just throwing this out there. I won't be racing in Monasterevin on Sunday so plan a reece round the course for Sunday weeks IRC/Orwell/Lucan/UCD/Tiernans league opener on the 26th.

With frost and possible early ice forecast, I'm gona skip the early morning club meet with a view to getting out to Black Bull a little later. Would like to do the course which takes in a lap round Doreys Forge and the bottom half of the Mullagh back round to Batterstown. Maybe do it twice!

Anyone interested in meeting at Black Bull for 11am?

WooHoo marshalling duties, great way to make my debut in the league. Who else is coming out for this?

I ll be there racing. Should be fun :D The route has some interesting spikes so we ll probably see groups splitting up.

I'm afraid not. You need to be a member of one of the five clubs.

I see there's a course change for Sunday. The Green Sheds circuit (face to palm). Heads should roll for leading us to believe it was Dorey's.

    70km though!

I believe Lucan have a vacancy!

70k is a bit mad to start with. Last May we were racing 47k, and we are starting in February with 70? I don't have a problem with it, it just doesn't make sense.

We only have short races during the week because it gets dark.

The evening races are restricted in length due to daylight.

EDIT: Lumen beat me to it.

Dublin Wheelers have a training race on Dorey's Forge starting at 10.30, which presumably explains the change - morana you may wish to enquire about that one, as I know Swords riders are invited - it may be a similar situation to the Xmas races

Thanks. I spoke to Ciaran today and he kindly invited us. My initial inquiry was an attempt at humour but lost in translation from DNS to the Southside

I suspect it was because posters simply assumed you don't understand the licencing rules;)

Anyway, you can at least now start thinking about some of those over 50s races ....

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Actually, I took it seriously because I know other club leagues allow guests.

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

... but your league is already up to it's maximum "5 clubs" that may be represented in any Club League race

    Exactly. :p

70km sounds a nice distance for first race of the season, am looking forward to try out some new wheels

70km - ouch! Last year the opening race was about 45km, I was hoping for something similar this year, it would have tied in nicely with my haphazard training. Hmm, 35 hours remaining in which to cram some quality training in...

Is there a group riding out to this by any chance? I know that a group left Phoenix Park last year (I distinctly recall seeing that group disappear into the distance as I arrived late and my planned casual ride to the race turned into a sprinting, gurning, hyperventilating bonanza ...in preparation for a sprinting, gurning, hyperventilating bonanza). Mind you the extra race distance makes the 30-odd km ride to there a bit less appealing, my inner couch potato is looking at my car with interest.

Can anyone put up a link to the official start point?

There'll be be a few leaving Joe Daly's at 9:30, and if you roll past the Pope's Cross at around 10 there'll no doubt be a few too.

Usual signon & start for these races is here, but tomorrow it looks like it'll be the pub car park here.

ugh, was really hoping to be ready to race in this, but I was in bed at 10.30 last night. Bloody jet lag. On top of which I seem to have picked up a chest infection on the way home, huzzah for anti-biotics.

Anyone who suggests I'm sandbagging will witness my wrath.

Will there be lots of us out for this tomorrow? 4 laps is mental, considering the usual club league thing is 2 laps! Must be trying to reduce the numbers early on in the season :).

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

4 laps? We were told 3.

    I'm racing anyway.

    4 laps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,830 ✭✭✭doozerie

Can someone confirm whether it is really going to be 4 laps? My poor little legs would like to know.

Edit: Just had it confirmed that it is indeed 4 laps, so 80km or so, but that the final decision will be made tomorrow so it may yet be reduced (please ...oh please!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

4 laps is what we were emailed anyway.

What'll they have to give limit - a full lap nearly??

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

I make that around 74km actually. That's not too bad.

Well done to Lumen for taking the 4th place! Awesome ride!
The pace was hard for a first race, I blew up fairly fast, don't know why, legs were great but I couldn't breath. Anyway, many more races to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

    Nice one. Congrats.

Thank fcuk it was 3 laps in the end. Did all i could to drive on for the Usher lads on the break on the 3rd lap and sat up then on the main road, i was bollixed. Great 1,2,3 result for the club though :)

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Well done to the Road Club, that was a great move. Congrats to Lumen too. I'd say he can wave goodbye to semi-limit now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,220 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

well done lumen, first result of the year and no power data haha you think if only ....

    Fair fcuks to Lumen!

    Who's your coach?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

Congrats to Lumen too. I'd say he can wave goodbye to semi-limit now.

i think there's a 5 race amnesty or something so people can stay put and see how the groups settle down. They're trying to even things out so that it's not just one amorphous semi scratch :). Was good today anyway I thought. Lots of capable riders in semi limit and at least a decent pretence made at working together :)

Who is everyone anyway. I never know who anyone is. Who's who and on what?

I had my new Ridley "hack" out with my photogenic Zipp 606 specials :) riding for Usher.

Was that astramonti on the white planet x with the non-decaled stealthy carbon deep sections?

Levitronix, didn't spot you are you still on black/orange canyon?

    What's Lumen ride?

Well done to all, impressive show from the 3 Usher lads and Lumen. It was a great day for marshalling; cold, windy and overcast! From where I was standing, it seemed like carnage, an awful lot of guys going a lot better than they should be for February...

Black Canyon AL, so that doesn't really narrow it down :pac:. 50mm carbon wheels on today, and a death rattle of some sort.

Well done to all who came out and competed today - it was a bit of an ask for a 70kms race this early as a league pre-season (more of an open racing pre-season really?), especially for those who hadn't raced before.

I was marshalling on the corner turning back onto the main road, it looked fairly tough on the second lap, a fair few flushed faces and open, panting jaws :)
