Does anyone know what the eyesight requirements mean?
It says in the candidate booklet that 6/12 - 6/12 is the minimum uncorrected requirements.

I've just been for an eye test and one eye is -0.25 and the other is -0.75
I have no idea if that is ok or not? Help!

I only wish my eyes were as good - ur sorted. the closer it is to zero the better. your are only slightly shortsighted. Im +4.50 in both eyes (which isnt that bad so this shows that your eyes are good) so I am long sighted. I wear contact lenses. You wont need to worry about the eye test at all. The last time I done it I could read it with my contacts out!

Excellent! I was worrying that your sight had to be perfect or something and haven't a clue what all this 6/12 nonsense is about - i've heard of 20/20 but wasn't sure what it equates to!

The optician told me that a friend of hers applied for fire service with a similar prescription and got in and they are apparently quite strict so she thought it would be fine too - my mind is at rest now :) (apart from still waiting on this flipping medical appointment)

Yeah eyes have to be good for NIFRS - no contacts/glasses allowed - I was going to apply the last time but unable to because of this.

Hello all. Stumbled across this forum and nearly gave myself a heart attack when I read how far through the recruitment process you are. I received a letter on 14th June informing me that I had been successful at asessement centre and to wait further instructions. Having read your posts I contacted the recruitment branch. Am sorry to say that I'm late 200 in order of merit so I can't see my being successful. Recruitment officer told me that the next batch of letters are enroute and believed I would be amongst them.
Hey Chimera9938 - did you get your letter yet - was it good news

I haven't seen my post today yet but I'm probably the same - sucks doesn't it?

I'm gonna wait and see if it comes tomorrow and if not I will be ringing them tomorrow afternoon.

Very Pleased to be honest as was expecting a dear John!!

On a side note I just rung my gp to book an appointment about the vaccination form and they said they can't fill it out and to contact the school immunisation board?

Anyone had this issue? They also said it was inappropriate for them to fill It out as they have only been my gp's for 2 years(ish).

The school immunisation board hold all the injections you got when you were young - I had to get in touch with them to get the details for my Doctor. I would say to the Doctor that it needs filled in and your my Doctor so do it!

Well there is 500 plus officers taking staged redunancy, so at least 300-400 over timei would say, i know there lookin to streamline it all but inorder to reduce overtime, etc you still need the bodies

I just left my form at reception for my GP to fill out, ended up being another doctor from the surgery who did it, all they need to do is look up your records on the computer. Explain that you need a GP signature and stamp. Be prepared to pay a fee of around £15-25 as it is outside their 'NHS duties'.

How did you get your initial vaccination form done??

Hello all - I too applied for the Custody Officer role and got my little brown letter saying "congrats" but due to high volume of apps we'll be in touch blah blah...that was dated the 14th June. Having read through "most" of the posts on this forum I feel completely deflated now...having built myself up thinking I just had to pass the CTC check and medical!
Ive heard nothing since June - no letter or forms to complete - and I only sent an email today to find out my order of merit number. Sooooo if I'm placed anything over say 250 on this merit list then its unlikely I'll get through to the next stage? Is this true ? or just rumour?...or merely a chinese whisper thats grew and grew?
In ONE post i read someone stated that 561 people passed the AC..? How the frig did they find that out? Outa 5000 odd who applied, they could only whittle it down to 561 for a proposed 200 positions!?....even with a "reserve list" required why have an additonal 300 people waiting? Sorry about all the questions...but does anyone exactly know whats going on or are we all just second guessing due to the limited information ?

Top 200 on merit list got the CTC and medicals, the others that passed got the letter you got - recruitment dept informed me. A few posts back a person who was in the 200s got CTC form today so maybe they are taking more than 200 on - not sure yet

Where to start - the fact that you have not got a dear john is positive in its self - your merit number is an indication of where you have placed in the current campaign - ideally lower is better, however it does not guarantee a place. You will find that there will be people who have placed well in the merit pool but will drop out for any number of reasons - medical, better job, ctc checks, change of heart - it will happen so it is impossible to say if I score above X I will not get in. You will also find that some people with low merit scores may be delayed in getting a place through medical issues or ctc checks and therefore some people with higher merits may start ahead of them as they clear the process sooner (happened me in the PSNI) - re does anyone know exactly what is going on - the answer to this is no - I have spoken to recruitment and they confirmed they were still not 100% on all the details - so what hope have we - Hope some of this helps - good luck 67j
