Saw 073 with the Ballina-Waterford timber depart Athlone just before 8pm this evening. 072 sitting in a cold Westport yard tonight with an empty timber.

Saw what I think was an 071 today going through fontill station heading towards city. Still painted clearly in IE orange. I was over a km away but copped the freight containers 1st then the orange engine. Had not seen one in years. I presume the 141s,181s are gone. I could only catch quick glimpse of the orange so could not tell the class. Any one else spot it. About 1.15 pm

It could only have been 084. It's only loco left in service still in IE orange. There are 3 other 071s in orange but they are all in for long term overhauls to combat body work rusting.

162, 171 and 175 are still running as Inchicore shunters and are confined to the depot. 175 and 124 have recently been purchased for preservation.

    The list of preserved 121/141/181s are 124,134 141,142,146,152,175 190.

its a shame only 1 181 was preserved, still 1 is better then none.
anyone got any news on poor old 6111 aka AEC railcar 2624? will she be off to the cutters soon?

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

She's cutting herself up nicely in Inchicore without any direct help from CIE. (since when did CIE directly help anything railway related.) Of course the good reverend may have plans for her, but I doubt it.:D

a shame, i know its a railcar and railcars aren't popular with some folk, but still its part of transport history and should have been preserved better, still what has been preserved is an achievement so shouldn't grumble.

084 gets around a good bit. It tends to end up on the Tara trains alot of the time though.

Of the active 071s, I have not seen and read anything about the where abouts of 085 in a good few months now. Wonder where it's been hiding.

171 was the last of these to work, and that was over twelve months ago. There's only one working Bo-Bo at this stage, 146.

How much longer will 084 be left in orange. Lovely to see it again.

It just passed me at 14:30 at Clongriffin with empty returns for tara mines. It didn't stay away too long. 083 passing 20 mins later with a fully laden train for Alexandra Road.

Thought either 162, 171 or 175 was still shunting stock around at Inchicore as needed. I know 171 was the last out on the mainline in service with IE.

142 is in working order at Whitehead but it's not operating at full performance. 146 is only back working a few months after having one of it's cabs rebuilt because of crash.

142 had better not be working at all as it was drained of engine oil a couple of months back! 171 was the last one as Works Pilot, months after it's brothers, but was parked up in November 2011. 146 was back at work at the beginning of August.

Hey Captain Chaos,re 085. its confined to Inchicore for quite some time now. It did,a good few months back operate an IWT liner from Northwall but was taking off at Inchicore and replaced.

I was told that 077 was in the paint shop this week as part of the body overhaul. I wonder if it'll have the new logo on it?

When 077 is released back into traffic may we see 084 finally getting called in? The last orange loco standing or rolling as the case may be.

078 is next in line for the paint shop. Needs parts though.

I'm not sure about 071s, but NIR 111 and 112 have worked in multiple before.

Maybe during testing when they were first delivered but it is not allowed under IE rules.

As Karsini posted NIR have double headed the 111s a few times. 111 and 113 double headed the Hunslet farewell tour. NIR top and tail their 111s regularly on engineering trains and for shunting stock. IE don't do this with their 071s or any other loco either and instead send a light engine down the line after the weed spray train if the loco can't run round. The train gets haul back and then the other loco has to follow light engine. Wast of time and money because IE won't do top and tailling.
