And sat nav. Lazy people read a bloody map!

Sat nav is more efficient than a map. You don't have to continuously pull in to read it/check where you are.

I think some people who are good at map-reading and know that many are terrible at it, resent the fact that their skill is now redundant. :D

Ah but if you have a decent co pilot then your laughing!

Ah, fair enough, but to a van driver or someone trying to get around the country for work I'd say a sat nav can be a gift send.
Very true if it was your job it would be almost essential but not so much so for a Sunday spin or weekend down the country. Sure you cant get lost in Ireland as my father always says!

Actually its a bit funny, since they added the ring road around Eindhoven, whenever someone drives to our place from The North they end up somewhere in Belgium, becuase they blindly drive off the Sat Nav and miss the exit onto the ring road.

So it keeps saying, "Take the exit" while you can see the exit, theres a wall in the way.

I find Dublin one of the easiest places to drive in yes signage is crap and you really do need to know your way around but drivers in Dublin are generally much better I think. They behave predictably are generally in the correct lanes and use roundabouts and indicators correctly.
    .

 Seriously? I see road rage incidents every other day during my daily commute around Dublin and witness some truly awful and dangerous driving.

Irish drivers as a whole have poor lane discipline, a complete lack of courtesy and manners when driving and failure to signal correctly (if at all) and lane discipline would definitely be in the top 5 in terms of most annoying/dangerous habits.

As for dublin, don't find it any better or worse than anywhere else, lots of taxi drivers around as is often mentioned on here who seem to think they are entitled to drive how they like with complete disregard for the rules of the road.

That's all my generalisations for now.

Ah come on, enough of the drama, you don't see road rage incidents every other day and you don't witness "truly awful and dangerous driving", Dublin is one of the safest counties to drive in. Calm down.

I find that driving in Cork is worse than in Dublin.

A lot of Cork drivers seem very aggressive.

I've noticed too that a lot of people who speed or tailgate in Dublin area are driving Cork registered cars.

If I was to Generalise, I'd say that there were lots of people driving while talking on their phone, when I was back in Cork last week.

    Aggressive ?? Nah.

Although a lot of them were driving D Reg cars ... obviously a sound investment due to their higher market value.

No drama here, I'm also perfectly calm. Maybe not every other day as such but I've seen enough, and awful driving is definitely a daily occurance.
Dunno what makes Dublin any safer than anywhere else though?

Don't mind driving in the big smoke, but have to watch out for cyclists.

Statistics make it the safest county to drive in.

    Here's the 2009 stats:http://www.rsa.ie/Documents/Road%20Safety/Deaths%20and%20injuries%20on%20Irish%20roads%202009.pdf

    Go figure. ;)

The OP asked would you drive in dublin and the discussion has led to various experiences of such, not which is the safest county in terms of road deaths.

My general point was that Ireland as a whole is a nation of poor drivers who lack simple common sense, road manners and knowledge of the basic rules of the road , imho Dublin is no better or worse in that regard.
And there are enough related threads on here if you look which testify to that.

In twenty years of driving I have seen shocking shocking stuff, most of it outside Dublin, the worst in Donegal, basically drunk rally driving. I don't really see Dublin related bad driving threads here... but I guess we will agree to disagree like gentlemen. I honestly find Dublin drivers a bit more lenient towards lost or confused drivers in the wrong lanes. Some other places in Ireland I have had the misfortune to get in the wrong lane have drivers like the gestapo!! No quarter given! I hope your next trip in Dublin is good Panama! And.. I can see some peoples points, it can be intimidating, I sometimes get confused or lost when I am somewhere I'm not used to in my own city.
