Handing in the completed license Monday, i have a seep farmer with a lot of lambs coming soon.

If I do get the rifle i would like to do target shooting but i am way west of Galway i hear theres a range near sligo don't recall the name

could you guys suggest a scope around 250 300 euro? And if there anything else a shooter can do in the galway area

    Thanks guys

Its probably lough bo shooting centre you are on about in sligo. They have a range but Im not sure if they deal with centrefire rifles.

They don't its only a 100m range for rimfire rifles., theres plenty of wide open bogs around west galway for zeroing, midlands range in near tullam ore, about an hour and a half from galway city on the motorway!!

I love the stock. Near-custom quality wood for pennies. The guns shoot very well, too.

For 200euro the bushnell banner 6-24x50 can be got which is good glass. I looked through a old 3-9x40 one last week and the quality was very good.
It would be a great scope for hunting. Dont know anything about the target side of things.

Decent mounts will set you back 70euro plus too.

    Congrats Ziggieire,
Excellent choice on your first rifle. The 1500, like the Rem 700 is one of those rifles that may be the first and the last rifle, you'll ever own.

I love the 1500 and would recommend them to anyone.

What kind of magnification are you looking for? Small targets I presume.

    I would suggest the following brands/models: (a) Burris/Fullfield II, (b) Nikon Prostaff, (c) Sightron/SI, and Redfield/Revolution.

Any of the above scopes would be an excellent piece of glass for most anything the average shooter, or hunter, will ever need.

The lads on the boards suggest the Bushnell series as well. As I have no experience with them, I will let others speak to their quality.

    Well wear!

i got very luck with a Burris Black Diamond 8-32x50 looks like a very solid scope, looking forward to trying it out.
Looking like ill be mostly hunting as i have to travle to the moon and back to get to a rifle range,
but around here there are deer not sure what kind, rabbits grays mags lots of foxes
i have to look into gun clubs i know theres one for sure but i think they might be very shotgun oriented

i tryed out a lot of guns lots of the 700s and a few others but when i picked up the 1500 it just fit me better, i had never heard of Howa before as i had given up shooting for about 10 years but on the same day 5 other lads came onto the shop and 3 of them were picking up there own Howas after getting there licence had a good chat with them and i was sold

Excellent scope, you'll love Burris. I have several Burris scopes.

Now all that is left is rings and mount(s). Have you decided on them?

Fortunately, the lads that designed the 1500 spaced the holes so that any mount that fits the Remington 700 fits your needs.

    Here's what I have on my 1500's
    (a) Burris Zee rings and Leupold Two Piece Base. Pretty inexpensive.
    (b) Burris XTR rings and a picatinny base.

I like (a) on hunting rifles and (b) for target work. The XTR's have a lot of contact area (+1), but the picatinny rail sits high (-1).

You really cannot go wrong with either.

Glad you asked tbh i have no clue, this is the first time i have seen a rifle that did not have the dovetail groves built in, from what i see you can get 2 small mounts or a long mounting rail, i would prefer the rail,
you anyone be able to link me a good one i guess the rail that has to be scrued down and the mounts for a 30 mm tube,

    Thanks

    Ziggieire,
I am currently in the States, hence the late posts. I would suggest you go to Cabelas.com or opticsPlanet.com. Search the mounts you want and see what people are saying about them.

Also, I would suggest that you contact Burris or search their site.

Some peolpe, like myself, are OBSESSED  with having the bell of the scope as close as possible to the barrel. I am willing to bet that Burris could help you source the lowest mounts before they touch the barrel or you have to push the scope forward in order for the bell of the scope to clear the curvature of the barrel.

I bet if you search on 1500 and your scope, someone will know the lowest ring and mount combo.

I have these rings and whenever I order rings, I always order two or three sets and return the ones I do not need. Credit cards do come in handy!

Here is my rail. It's nothing fancy. Millet, EGW, Trijicon, all make great stuff. You'll want the short action (SA) and I assume right handed.

You probably will not need any minutes of angle built in to the base. Some bases are angled for the long range shooters to not have to dial their scopes all out.

I should state that my tastes are mostly for hunting or paper targets in preparation of hunting. My targets are done inside of 300ya and game depends on the conditions. On a good day with a good solid rest, the low four's.

However, that just might change as I am thinking about getting a long range kit. We'll soon see.

Unless, you're doing the long-range stuff, you should be fine with the above.

You're going to find that Howa is a tack driver.

Very nice rifle. Howa are a good, reliable, non-expensive rifle.

Just on the mount issue, while not cheap, but the price reflects build, Near rails are among the best in the world (IMO). Jim Griffin in Rahan is, i believe, bringing some in to suit Remmy/Howa actions.
