I'm not sober enough to drink beer.

Always up for beers, though the turnout the last time was a bit disappointing.

Well there seems to be a few more newbies knocking around, especially from the Dublin area. I'm sure we could pool a few more together. I plan on making one myself for a change.

put up a poll with dates. Make sure that people can tick more than one date and also that you tick the thing so that people can see who voted.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yay! I love it when plans come together. Although, saying that, I'm honestly expecting some tragedy that will prevent me from going. It would be typical me to just die on the day of beers, just so I'd miss out.

I'll put a poll up this evening. If people want to hold it some time by the end of this month or start of next, I'll put one together.

Maybe plenty of notice - so from mid february to mid march

I say we do beers for this time but the next one has to be different - Like paintballing or a picnic or something like that

I'll have you guys know that I've come both 1st and 2nd in a bake off competition...
I submitted a white chocolate cheesecake anonymously to see if I could get anywhere and had my named beside my caramel chocolate chip muffins with both milk & white choc ganache on top. :D

This could be amazing! Where could we have a picnic though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

If I participate, I'm not gonna cook, just cheat by taking some of my mums stuff down. She is amazeballs at cooking cakes, buns, desserts etc. Honestly, they are devine and people keep telling her she should be selling them at the local markets as people would clear the shelves. She has even been asked by people to cater their parties and they'll pay her.

It's so on right now! (That sounded a bit girly, but I don't care!) :D

Oh a bake off my opportunity to poison someone! Just kidding. I could supply Irish carbomb cupcakes. They're lethally sinful. Guinness stout n coco in the bun. A dark choc n Irish whiskey ganache filling and baileys frosting. Sinful.

Beers works too. Or tea garden as that was fun last time!

Should we combine the two? Have an official boards.ie bake off followed by celebratory beers? Or am I being an event management beast again?

when we say beers do we mean BYOB to like a pic-nic, or that we meet in a public house and buy them from the publican therein?

What about Grand Canal Dock (Fab day, eating cakes and chatting beside water being attacked by seagulls - bliss. Or Ringsend Park? Close to the Dart, near Ely which is not a gay bar but very gay friendly and is still in town? We could also reserve an area in Ely downstairs or something like that?

    Thoughts?

I kind of like the idea of BYOB, keeps costs down, people can bring as much or as little as they fancy...

If its a park though - not in February! Maybe a regular beers in winter then a Byob potluck bake off picnic in spring (may?)

Yeah... think we may have got caught up in the glitz and the glam of a picnic. Let's just get down and dirty with booze.

Oh well I didn't think the picnic/outside thing would be for the next one, I was assuming April time. Weather can be quite nice around then.

yes, forgot what month it was.

Drinks in a pub in the next month or so? then pic-nic once spring has sprung?

What's the worst that could happen? You don't like people. So you have 1 drink and call it a day. I've met some really sound people at these things.

It just wouldn't work - I think the best thing is drinks in February/March and then maybe a picnic in April/May

woah woah!, it;s actually going ahead!?

    "I was bluffing!!!!! I hate meeting people"<runs away>

ah no. I feel I should say if you cant go then that's fine, but speaking as a person who's gone to these things before take my advice: PLEASE don't not go just because your worried.
Once you get there and start chatting all your preconceptions go out the window in about 5 seconds, believe me.

I'd love to go, just need to know the place and time so I can arrange it. I'd actually be more nervous about going down and walking around Dublin on my own than anything else! :o

I'd say once I get there I'll be relaxed quite quickly with a drink in my hand. I dunno what that says about me exactly, but I'm sure to some it speaks volumes!

We were all like that at some stage. I was still printing Google Maps up until recently. I'm sure someone will meet you or something if you're unsure of your way.

It may be blind leading the blind, but if I'm going I can meet you at one of the train stations or whatever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

I sorta know my way around the main parts of Dublin, I was there a fortnight ago! It's not getting lost that I'm worrying about, it's being on my lonesome in the big city where some unsavoury character might mug me or beat me up or something! <hyperventilates>

So last 2 weeks of feb and first 2 weeks of march to choose from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

If it's in March that would suit me better but if everyone else prefers the end of Feb then so be it. Just my two penneth worth. :)

Are we aiming for a weekend or is any day of the week an option? Working Mon - Fri 9-5, a Saturday would be much more suitable.

I'd be in Dublin anyway so that works for me. I'll be with other gays and some straights though, I suppose I could slip away from them for an hour to have a drink with all you's lot! :D

I'd have to try and wrangle the night off work for it, but I'd love to head up just to meet some other boardsies! Any weekend really barring the Paddy's Day weekend suits me, tbh. Just so I know so I can get the night off work, and Friday would probably suit me better too.

If you hadn't have said anything, no-one probably would have known and you could have joined in!

Well, you're 17, you can come and have a bag of crisps and some brown lemonade or something!
